Description:
This is a first for me. It's the first time I've covered a tune by another MacJammer. I recently went back and listened to Lisa Purdy's - Ledebutant - tune "After All." It's an amazingly beautiful and emotional song and realy struck a chord with me and where I am in my life right now.

I sat down and started to play with it, with no intention of posting it. I sent a copy to Lisa and she encouraged me to go ahead and share it.

It doesn't compare with Lisa's original by any means, but I hope you enjoy it.

And that you, Lisa, for creating such a beautiful song.

Lyrics:
After All

By Lisa Purdy

Newspapers piled by the front door,
this house isn't mine, not anymore.
I pick up your suitcase,
I put away my shoes.
After all, what is love for?

After all what is love for?

I'm not who you want me to,
but then again, neither is he.
If there's one thing
that I'm asking from you --
it's to be careful when you go.

I walk to the room where you're asleep.
Hearing you breathe
feels like something to keep.
I wish that I could
lie down next to you.
After all what is love for?

After all what is love for?

I'm not who you want me to,
but then again, neither is she.
If there's one thing
I'm begging of you --
please don't go.

Please don't go.

There are a lot of great tunes that have been posted over the year here. It's a lot
of fun to dig back in the archives and see what you can find. Thanks for
stopping by and taking a listen.

Without a Doubt &mdash 10/21/06 - 06:33:46 PM
This is absolutely a huge honor to have such a gifted musician and all-
around-great-guy cover one of my songs. This is such a beautiful, lush
arrangment, Joe and I think shows off what a multi-faceted
instrumentalist you are, to boot. Your vocal is also so very emotional
and captures the feeling of pure pain that can happen when a
relationship ends, especially a marriage. Your re-write of one of the
lines from "I lift up the blanket and lie down next to you," to "I wish
that I could like down next to you," is just heartbreaking. Thank you
from the bottom of my heart for doing this. It's a wonderful gift.

The honor is all mine! &mdash 10/23/06 - 11:10:01 AM
And just so you know, flattery will get you everywhere. ;)

This is just such a wonderful song and it has come to mean so much to me.
Recording this tune was very much a release for me. You managed to create
such a beautifully emotional song. You have an such incredible gift for
songwriting (and a lovely voice to boot.)

I appreciate your encouragment, Lisa, and your very kind words. Thank you so
much.

Sorta what I heard too... &mdash 10/22/06 - 10:11:11 AM
having already covered this myself, this is sort of what I heard in the
song, though my version really spent a lot more time out in left field, this
was a direction I really thought would work too. I like the almost
alternative touches like the fuzziness of the leads sort of fighting against
placing this solidly in the soft rock genre. It's an enormously fragile song
and little things like that really make it a lot more personal. Good job!

I really hope... &mdash 10/23/06 - 11:18:49 AM
...people will take the time to listen not only to Lisa's original, but your version
as well. It's a great take on the song. It's always interesting how different people
can hear such different things when they are interpreting the same peice of
music. That's one of the things I love about MJ is that we can do that kind of
thing and share it with one another.

I appreciate you taking the time to listen and comment, Jim.

Excellent cover &mdash 10/22/06 - 04:29:09 PM
Such a good song, and your style is so well suited to covering it. And you did a great job. I especially like the effect of the backing vocals coming in.

Well... &mdash 10/22/06 - 04:55:21 PM
That was intensly good, mirster JG. Just lush w/ what's right about it... - Somehow, you always make me cloud up and rain all over my face - The warmth and pain in your voice tugs so deeply at my heartstrings - And I knew that it would -- I'd been kinda avoiding listening to this because of that... Can you imagine that this was my conscious intent. Also, I haven't left any comments anybody's song recently, because I just haven't been able to, and we can only guess why I thought it was a good idea to open up to really listen to one of your tunes... - Some part of me knew that it was gonna be a cleansing moment - Luckly, I don't have the time and space at this particular moment or I'd go back and listen, again, to Lisa's original version - I'd be a glutton if I did...

You put together such an intensely rich arrangement of sounds, that I'm not sure why I'm the chosen one to be working on an unamed little ditty, but I'll just keep counting my those things that are good in my life....

Nice arrangement. &mdash 10/23/06 - 01:53:02 PM
I have not heard the original, but this is a very good arrangement. I will
definitely listen to the original, but for this one, I really like the music mix
and production. It sits well together. Vocals are clearly defined and easy
to listen to. The soft and sad mood is striking at different times in the
lyrics, very nicely captured in this song. Good job.

NICE TRIBUTE &mdash 03/12/07 - 09:56:15 PM
I also really like Lisa's song "After All". It's such a touching cool track.

I think overall this is good but I am going to give you an honest critique.
There were parts where your voice was off key and the guitar was out a couple of times too. I hear almost an E Bow type geetar on this. I would do another take on the vox and guitar just to get this thing perfect. Every thing else sounded really good. I hope this helps!
