Fan List
Keywords:
Funk (175)guitar (879)bongo (2)synth (256)loop (39)
Description:
My first foray into the world of loops and software instruments. Of course, the guitar tracks still feature prominently but they took up a fraction of the time to work out as the rest of it did.

Still pretty rough and I will try and get back to it to add some polish but it's ready enough to submit and hopefully get some feed back from you folks.

Hardware:
guitar and mac keyboard

Software:
GarageBand II

Very good start! &mdash 10/23/06 - 09:32:44 AM
You've really got a solid rhythmic and instrumental foundation for a good track here. The guitar solo is quite excellent and blends well with the loops/synths you chose. After 2/3 into the song I would expect a prominent beat to come in to complete the nice buildup in the beginning. Also, consider giving it some breathing space by pausing your solo every once in a while, at which point you could feature the rhythm guitar (which seems a bit loud to me during the solo). Just a few ideas, but this does have potential, keep working on it!

Thanks for the genuine feedback &mdash 10/23/06 - 11:21:33 AM
I agree with everything you've said. As this is my first real composition using electronic music (loops and samples) I was sort of content just to get something down.

After listening to a sampling of your own tunes not only do I welcome your comments but have something new to aspire to. Your music seems so full yet roomy. My own percussions seem so rudimentary compared to your masterful percussive style. I can see I have a lot to learn!

Guitar work. You really didn't do bad for your first try at "Loops and Software Instruments". Having fun and sharing is what making music and this site is all about. It becomes exciting when you have a song to post then get the awaited feedback. Your doing just fine my man. Thanks for sharing.

You are so right. It's fine and dandy to sit at the computer and roll out the tunes but it adds a much richer element knowing that it can be put out there for the masses, with the possibility of pleasing someone with your own creations.

Thanks for the encouragement too!

The way I see it... &mdash 11/04/06 - 10:05:17 AM
You're determined to become the jonx of the instrumental set around here. And if you haven't sat down for an hour or two and listened to jonx's tunes, I highly recommend it... Especially way back when, he was a guy for posting short little gems of songs... Over before you know it, but GOOD....

I really like this... Sure, you're going to get better at the various tricks of GarageBand, but your basic abilities and instincts are so musical from the start that I just don't have a doubt... I'm rapidly becoming a fan of your guitar playing...

I recommend listening to my friends Cydniko and perceptualvortex to hear some people who can make amazing percussion tracks within the realm of synths and loops... Listen to at least two or three of each, so you get a sense of their range and depth... These guys can amaze you... And perhaps check out The Orbiting, to hear how music with that kind of bed can become a vocal song...

Wow! &mdash 11/04/06 - 09:19:37 PM
That's steep praise, comparing me to Jonx. He has some of the best songs on this site and I'm assuming he is a professional musician. If not, he should be! I've listened to several of his songs but haven't gotten to the early short gems you mentioned. I'll make a point of doing that.

I have listened to PV and the Orbiting already but I'll revisit them and pay particular attention to the backbone. Thanks for the heads up.

The comments about my instincts almost makes me blush!
