Wow! &mdash 10/23/06 - 09:11:29 PM
That's some wonderful picking you have on this. Really, almost makes me want to give up on guitar, good! What I love about your playing is that it isn't overly flashy. Nothing gets in the way of the song. Plus, you have a real good handle on how to record an acoustic guitar. Terrific!

Crisp &mdash 10/25/06 - 11:25:22 AM
This is a nice recording of one of your better songs. The treble is
especially crisp and sharp here. The tune conjours up movement to me.
Maybe drifting down the Mississippi on a raft! Move over Tom Sawyer,
Tom Bronco feels like drifting a little too. Would have to have another
guitar picker like you to jam with though!

like fun bronco, that would be nice to pick a bit on a raft drifting with no shoes just catchin catfish. Maybe tie a string on the head of the guitar and put a string and hook on it. I always could use more hooks for my guitar :)

Thanks bronco!

Bill, I had to jump in here quick to tell you this is another amazing performace, AND to tell you again that everytime I play your CD at home, my kids say, "Mama! I know! This is your friend Bill playing guitar, right?". You're famous at our house. :-) And, aw, I love the spoken part at the end.

I used two average mics. Not expensive, at the time they were about $300.00 apiece. Now they go for about $100.00 or so. The stick mic is a K 109 Shure and the large mic I have is on a boom pole and that is an MXL 2001. Both are condenser mics. I am looking forward to buying pro level mics but if placced right you got be pretty satisified with less expensive ones.

Because I've been doing videos with my cheap one chip video camera, I've placed my mics kind of together, both on the left side of the hole, which is opposite the fret side. That seems to be effective, cause I've been recieving excess trebleness with one mic being placed to close or even on the fret side.

The accoustical guitar, to me is much more tempermental in bringing out too much brightness . So you have to be very carefull to not to get too close to the frets. So lately I"ve just kept my mics far away from the frets and on the other side of the hole.

I use a preamp.

I love to record with duplicate tracks for both mics. I love to put in a tint of cathedral reverb on both mics that are duplicated in GB3.

If I am doing hard strumming with my acoustical guitar, It is monumental that you don't put your mics up cloase as would for delicate fingerpicking. Like in classical bach, vivaldi, chopin etc. But hard strumming can reap havoc in the red zone in GB3.

For my latest recording I used heavy gauged strings. But I would suggest not using light guaged strings for beautiful fingerpicking cause it will sound too tinny. i am not happy with heavy gauged strings, not so much for the micing but they are not as giving as mediums.

If you want your recording to sound really good, Make sure you buy a good guitar, not one that sounds like a box of tin cans. Not that any of you have that problems, but it bothers me to hear people that have terrific voices and don't fork out a bit and get even an average guitar.

a wonderful moment &mdash 10/28/06 - 06:06:21 PM
That was wonderful, Bill. I watched the youtube video, and enjoyed every second. You are able to play that instrument like you were born with it. What a gift, but certainly also a lot of creative investment. Thanks for sharing this wonderful moment. So glad I stopped by. - Walter

Thanks for the comment &mdash 10/28/06 - 06:44:59 PM
watching the video. It is challenging to do both audio in the mac G5 and record the video with a camera then splice and take out the audio from the camera. But I guess I am a glutton for punishment :(

Lovely &mdash 10/30/06 - 01:57:24 PM
I've always liked this track - both the song itself and the sentiment of it. And now there's the video factor to boot.

If anything, it just boosted my fondness of it!

It's really fun to watch you play - it also looked like you had a lot of fun playing :)

Lovely!

Wonderful musical biography &mdash 11/13/06 - 02:59:43 AM
I feel like I know Myrtle just from watching and listening to you play. This is so charming and you play it with such warmth and happiness, it put tears in my eyes. She must have been a very special lady.

She was a happy person &mdash 11/13/06 - 01:44:20 PM
She really was quite a cheerful lady.

Plus, I really was blessed by her situation. She married my grandfather, again, incredible situation. Both were on different sides of the family.

She loved working in her garden, flowers. Again, very cheery type personality, upbeat. Live to be 96! My wife did a lot of work taking care of her in her last few years of life!
