My first attempt with GarageBand. Big fun, great time ! I only used the basic loops given with the software. Next time, I try using my guitar…

Welcome to GB & MJ &mdash 10/26/06 - 02:00:28 PM
I think you will have a great time in the Macjams community, learning more about making music with GarageBand. But it sounds like you already have a good talent taking the basic loops, and making music that is pretty fresh and interesting. Good job using a little echo/reverb, and panning the different instruments apart, and keeping things changing a little so it didn't get boring. I look forward to your next piece, with real guitar. There are so many composers/performers on this site, playing so many different genres of music, I think you will be very busy for years now! If you have a moment, I'd love your comment on my music too!

Thank you everybody for your warm welcome. I've been listening to most of your tracks, and I'm a bit excited that my first comments come from authentic artists. I don't know, limited by my mastering of English (I'm French), what to had more to what as already been tell about your work, Drakonis. You seem to be a very generous, inventive composer, with a particuliar sense of humor. I appreciate a lot your work. I was very interested by your first go on GB, Lobster. Well, you made quite a long way from there ! I understand that I quick need to work with something else than corny loops if I want to move forward like you. Musically, I'm closer to jie. I like simplicity, trios, live music, great voices, raw energy and fun. I've been playing in a cover band for 2 years, it's an experience of pure joy which is tagged in me for ever ! But GB is an another world where I'm going to try to compose, which is a complety different matter.
To end this long post, I just want to say to the MJ community that I'm am bewildered by the gentleness and politeness of everybody here. I don't know if it's a question of international-anglo-saxon culture, or something specific to MJ, but, believe me, as my professional environment is the French Cinema Jungle, makes me feel I'm walking on air ! Angles and Saxons and dragons, oh my... &mdash 10/27/06 - 09:55:28 AM
By the way, your English is quite good and easily understood... much better than my 3 words of French! You said you were bewildered by the warm welcome and wondered if this was just a Macjams phenomenon. The answer is unfortunate, in my opinion... I think that it is mostly a Macjams "oasis". The web site admins have created an atmosphere that attracts generous talented musicians. There are many many other web sites out there like this, but they each have different "personalities". Many of the personalities are competitive, or overly nurturing, or completely geared toward making money. This place strikes a nice balance. I can be here and learn a lot from friends about how to compose music, and I can have some fun, meet new friends, collaborate with great Russian jazz trumpet players, ... amazing things to make this world a more friendly place. That is a very important thing to me, and music seems to be a great way to share this... uh... how do you say it in French... this "Folie a Deux"? (big smile) So, welcome to this paradise!

Drakonis

He he he ! &mdash 10/31/06 - 04:22:42 AM
Thank you very much. At first, I thought GB was only a way for a non-professional like me to get a bit of fun with my guitar, as I'm not playing anymore with friends. I find these loops and the software so easy to use ! But since I'm hanging around here, a bit intimidated by real musicians like you (I've listen of course to your work), I feel I have to work further, get some musical education (I don't know nothing in music except simple paterns of blues) if I want to do something else than just pasting loops everybody have heard a thousand times. I don't know if I will have the will and the time, as so busy in my other life (the cinema one). We'll see... [ Reply to This ]
