Description:
My Loop it or Lose it Entry.

Quick explaination... this is my first 'Loop Based' Song... meaning that pretty much nothing has been recorded by myself or penciled in with Midi (Aside from a few cymbal hits).

As per the requirements of the competition... I have made great use of the garageband loop:

Modern Rock Guitar #11

Unfortunately though, this didn't quite give me enough of the kind of sound and rhythms I wanted so I splurged a little with the loop choices (there are sooo many!).

And so I have to admit that at the risk of crowding the piece with such a large variety... I have all used all these loops as well:

1- Live Edgy Drums

Anything else you hear in this piece (aside from those cymbal hits) is a product or cutting and pasting, ring modulation, granulation, wave shaping, gating and a crazy scratching solo taken from those mentioned loops.

Ahh, yes &mdash 10/26/06 - 12:44:04 PM
Man after my own heart.... I quite butched the loop myself..

good application of it... What was that "chirpy" sounding percussion?

Butchered Loops! &mdash 10/27/06 - 02:51:13 AM
Thanks for the listern Harold!

The "Chirpy" percussion sounds are from the Modern Rock Guitar loop and they have been granulated originally at 3 times the speed and later in the song they are also at 2x and also original speed. When the length of the granulation snippets is lengthend (its normally at a one hundreth of a second) at various parts of the song you can actually hear most of the loop play... particulary before the DJ scratch solo.

Interesting &mdash 10/26/06 - 12:45:10 PM
I think you're probably going to get the prize for variety of effective manipulation techniques. I have to admit I was shocked when the complete loop dropped into the song. This is truly really cool, Bryan.

Speaking of shocked, oddly this reminds me of Shock the Monkey. I'm not sure why. Perhaps I'm suffering permanent brain damage from all of those remixes. ;-)

Speaking of Re-Mixes &mdash 10/27/06 - 02:58:02 AM
... Hopefully it won't put you into rehab or anything... but I've finally done some drums for Saturnine... so my remix for that should be appearing in the not too distant future....

Thanks for listening Lisa!

I broke my loop! &mdash 10/26/06 - 01:39:50 PM
This is the first entry I've allowed myself to listened to. I'm thrilled you took such an avant garde approach - this is just the kind of experimentation I was hoping would show up among the entries! What a great, glitchy rhythm. Altogether a really raw and rockin' mix. I love the the crazy detuned moments and other distorted wrenchings of the loop. Also nice that you held off on introducing the loop as the central element of the groove. Its a fun moment when it first appears in recognizable form. Thanks for the entry!

I'm not sure if I can put that back together again... &mdash 10/28/06 - 02:39:26 AM
Glad my song met your expectations here! It was a lot of fun trying to rip it to shreds and build something again from the ashes.
Hehe... it actually made it easier holding off revealing the loop fully. That way I know what I'm working towards and I can deconstruct things rather than trying to build them instead... and it works better since it makes sense in the end "Ahhh... thats what it was going to."
Thanks for the listen.

You hypnotized my cat. &mdash 10/26/06 - 06:58:14 PM
When the first chirpy sounds started she jumped up on the desk and has stared at the computer during the whole song.

I'm equally mesmerized! Amazing loop work and just generally a fun and dynamic piece.

Oh yeah &mdash 10/26/06 - 11:29:05 PM
Awesome! Welp, you not only managed to use fewer loops than I did, but got something extra cool out of it. But the envy isn't too overpowering. Regardless of being a challenge entry, this is just an amazingly cool piece that I completely dig.

This is some crazy loop manipulation. Some real talent here, unlike my quickly-put-together entry. :)

First, I must mention this type of glitched music is a bit outside my musical Venn diagram... however, I was hoping somebody would do this very thing to the loop, dissect it, splay it, pin it, dye it, and grind it to bits... and only a few people on MJ have the skill to do that, you did it! Bravo, this is out there, but not so far out there that I couldn't enjoy it, you kept the basic harmonic progression there and built toward the loop itself in the end. Definitely gets the .|~ C#L337Skillz award!

Rhythm of the Radioactive Rain &mdash 10/27/06 - 06:54:28 PM
Sounds like the soundtrack to the end of the world! Very hard, dramatic beat coupled with unique sounds. I like the way you keep coming back to the main rift which gives it a root to hold on too!

talk about serious chopping...! &mdash 10/27/06 - 07:05:02 PM
...great one Bryan!

very clever augmentation of the loop...but that's to be expected from you ;)

This is wicked cool &mdash 10/27/06 - 08:01:15 PM
and almost violent in its attack. Amazing that all this came from one (ok, two) loops. You've managed to channel Phillip Glass and Richard D. James all at once. I hope all the challenge songs take as many risks as you do here.
