Description:
Frank often felt that he was not in control of his life. Someone else was always pulling his string and making him do tricks like "walk the dog", "around the world" and the "pinwheel". He was up and down on the "elevator" and he felt like he was about to go "over the falls". Finally he decided it was "double or nothing", he needed to "breakaway". He couldn't however because of "gravity pull"
This is my submission to the first Loop it or lose it here on macjams ... hope you like it!

Best title, for sure. &mdash 10/26/06 - 09:05:35 PM
Poor Frank. It sounds like he's at the end of his...string?
Nice mix of sounds here. I like the processing you did with the loop. Is that you playing the wild guitar? [ Reply to This ]

Magritte ... thanks for stopping by and taking a listen. I really liked this challenge because I work with loops a lot ... kind of like a collage artist, I like to work with found "objects". I'm glad you liked it. [ Reply to This ]

Thanks for the comment and thanks for stopping by. In response to another poster, I will explain some of the construction of the song below. I think you will be suprised! [ Reply to This ]

Freaky effects! Gate, chorus, delay, wah, and some kind of an octave effect maybe? Cool wailings on the guitar - you really play to the "sound" of the piece. Each little solo keeps with the verse-like theme but has its own direction. Now I have that four-note lick stuck in my head: "bum, bah-dah DEE-EE!"
Another totally unique take on that loop. Groovalicious AND psychedelic! Thanks for "stringing us along!" [ Reply to This ]
All revealed. &mdash 10/27/06 - 09:42:17 AM
In response to you Chikoppi and the others who wondered about some of the elements in Psychelic Yo Yo, here is the breakdown of the song and especially the lead "guitar". It is not a guitar at all ... I don't play guitar ... I don't really play any instrument. Everything I do, with some minor exceptions, is with loops and with slice and dice and the pencil tool.
The lead "guitar" here is actually "synth array 01" (I guess you won't be using that loop in the next "contest") cut up and re-assembled differently in each verse. This is what gives it the similarity in each verse that you mentioned. In one verse I doubled the speed, sent it to iTunes at double speed and brought it back into the song and then added a leslie effect. In other verses I use two versions on two tracks in harmony. The basic effect added is the guitar setting "glam" with modifications to the amp simulaton, the EQ and the other effects.
I would love to be able to play an instrument but, since I can't, I do the best with the love of music that I have and the editing skills that I have developed over the years of commercial radio production.
Thanks for coming up with the "loop it or lose it" concept and thank for your kind comments. I hope you will continue with them. [ Reply to This ]

I can so relate to the description and I appreciate you adding something that adds color and imagination to my listneing pleasure.
and pleasure it was. i'm getting very inspired by this, its an apt schooling in "what's possible". That it sounds freaking great just means the lesson will stick. bravo [ Reply to This ]
Inspired? &mdash 10/27/06 - 03:54:07 PM
Thank you so much for the comments. I am especially pleased that you commented that you were inspired by my efforts. The most I ever hope for with any of my compositions is to entertain someone for a few minutes. To actually think that I might have actually INSPIRED someone in their own endeavors is truly awsome and, indeed, inspiring to ME. Thanks again. [ Reply to This ]

Nice way of handing the loop around from one loop setting to another... Kept things neon-fresh and flashing, as I was tripping to this I got tangled up in my doorway beads and almost knocked over the lava lamp! Groovy stuff, very well done effects on things to give them that aural chromatic abberation effect. Had to rub my eyes a couple times to make it go away!

LOL you described my house pretty well with the lamps and the beads. LOL.
I'm glad you liked my aural chromatic abberation effect (i'm not sure what that is but I will take credit for it).

Hey man, I can totally see your aura right now.
This is such a wonderful use of the loop and I always so completely enjoy your song descriptions, the little mini-stories. I wonder if you've ever heard any of Tadashi Togawa's songs. He sometimes writes equally interesting little tales to go along with the music.
It's amazing to hear what a little imagination can do with a piece of sound. I really feel you've taken this out of the realm of arranging and crossed over into composing in some spots. Very nice vibe and very enjoyable, indeed. (Lisa) [ Reply to This ]

first of all your wrong about not playing an instrument. you are playing the computer. and quite well i must add. your tunes never dissappoint me with your sonic creations. another excellent example!

Definitely has a yo-yo effect that's cool. Love the bass line you got- is that also a loop? Nice job twistin' the loop around! [ Reply to This ]
Loops loops loops &mdash 10/28/06 - 06:15:04 PM
Yup, everything I use is either a loop or it started out as a loop. I use the software instruments a lot and modify them and I slice and dice the real instrument loops. Since I got GB3 I have been playing the "musical typing" for some of the BG synths on some songs, but I am more like a collage artist; I work with "found objects" and try to assemble them into a meaningful work. Bill, This is just way to cool and I just had to download it for a more in-depth listen. I am making my way through all the "Loop It or Lose It" entries and this caught my ear. Very nice work my man.

really? no guitar? &mdash 04/14/07 - 11:50:21 PM
that's an incredible simulation of a guitar; and a great idea to double the speed. how did you do that? i'm just getting started on GB and super curious as to how folks do things.
i really like the sounds and the arrangement of your song. i love how many talented people i keep running across, and you are one of them. [ Reply to This ]
