Description:
This one is a trip back to the 80s, literally. I wrote this one almost 20 years ago. It was originally intended to sound New Wave-ish when I wrote it, but turned into more of a guitar driven song in the different bands I was in who performed it.
This is really the first time I've been able to get it to sound the way I've always imagined it. I recorded it a couple of times in college using an old Fostex Four Track and simple drum machine, plus this is about the fourth time I've done it in GarageBand. I don't think I've ever posted it before, however.
Nothing particularly deep and meaningful about this one, just an excuse to use a lot of retro sounds.
Hope you enjoy.
Lyrics:
See Sally Run
Little Sally came outside to play
She lives just down the street
Little Sally grew up yesterday
Now she’s alone
Playing with the boys like brand new toys
Sally has her fun
See you now, see you then. Come inside for a while
Now she’s got to run
See Sally Run
See Sally Run
See Sally Run
See Sally Run
Little Johnny Rebel went to town
He stepped up, but got pushed down
He waved his flag and put out a call
And everybody rallied round
Through the crowd Johnny sees Sally run
With a gleam in her eyes
Johnny chases after her but loses her trail with a sigh
Sally ran away
See Sally Run
See Sally Run
See Sally Run
Sally Ran Away
Little Jack and Jill went up the hill
Until they rached the top
Jack fell down and looked all around
And saw Sally laugh
Now Jack and Jill are over the hill
driving in their BMW
now they don’t care about anything
They’re in the clouds. Way up un the clouds
See Sally Fly
See Sally Fly
See Sally Fly
Sally Flew Away

That Sally! &mdash 10/27/06 - 07:08:20 PM
The girl gets around doesn't she? Is this the same Sally that was down the alley and in the roses? Nice smooth pop sound Joseph. Like you said, it would have been at home on the radio in the 80's. Hear all kinds of influences in there. Huey Newton, Christopher Cross, and maybe a little Prince? Good job! Rock on! [ Reply to This ]

it took me a while to figure what this tune reminded me of. a bit of duran duran in there. it's great you have kept this in your mind to record after all these years. still a fresh sound today.

I was thinking very long and hard about who this reminded me of.. then i figured it had to be you! Or, for some reason This reminds me a bit of Revolving Doris... Nice arrangement on this, I enjoyed it all the way. [ Reply to This ]
A helluva good excuse! &mdash 11/02/06 - 07:18:01 AM
Yeah, you're right, this one will probably not end up in the book of the greatest lyrics, but it's important not to forget the playfulness of words too... This is very cool. Awesome synth work. Ahhh, now I want to do a Flock of Seagulls and go back in time... /M [ Reply to This ]
