Keywords:
Loop (39)rabbit (4)lepus (1)myxamotosis (1)carrots (2)
Description:
My contribution to the 'Loop it or Lose It' forum & my tribute to the movie 'night of the Lepus' (1972)

'Night of the Loopoos' utilises the 'Modern Rock Guitar #11' loop only via GB.

(Please note: only 1 loop was harmed in the making of this piece...)

OH, and another thing...there is a lengthy section of silence at the end of this submission....my apologies to all, in my hurry to get this submitted I neglected to check the 'unwanted bits', which were cut & pasted to the end, hence a 4 minute piece comprising mainly of silence,,,,I guess you could say it's my 'tribute' to John Cage...?

Hardware:
iBook G4

Software:
GB2

Look at those big, nahsty teeeth!!!! &mdash 10/27/06 - 06:36:42 PM
First of all, great job making a tune with only that one loop. The Composer and I also tried this approach with very different results. Of course, I had to add drums too. Anyway, especially considering that limitation, you did a great job with diversity in the song. I like the bass tones, and sometimes you have a sort of oboe or bassoon sound. And of course, it sounds exactly like a really sinister rabbit. Was the ending intended to have so much space, or...? Nice job!

...thanks PV! &mdash 10/27/06 - 06:54:55 PM
The ending...hmmm, you know, I actrually thought it was strange that when I exported the toon to iTunes, it said 4 minutes, I know for a fact it's not much more than 2 minutes long...!

(I think I mighta left a region in right at the end of the GB file.....I was in such a rush to get the piece in on time!) :/

I'm amazed &mdash 10/27/06 - 09:02:52 PM
that there are so many different takes on using this loop in this "contest" I like the sounds here. Well done.

Great! &mdash 10/27/06 - 09:03:56 PM
Great work snipping and transposing and transmogifying. You've really made a neat piece from it, considering the limitations. Congrats!

Cheers Jim!

Now if GB only had a 'reverse' effect, that'd be fun!

before it kills you. Wonderful piece of music. Beautifully conceived and executed. Felliniesque.

I LOVE this. &mdash 10/28/06 - 01:03:07 AM
Truly amazing job limiting yourself only to the loop. I would never have imagined it if you hadn't said so. Very evil-lepine indeed. (I have to admit I didn't get the title until I saw the art, and then I laughed.)

thanks Margritte... &mdash 10/28/06 - 02:11:17 AM
....I was seriously at my wits'
end trying to work out what to do, so, I decided to concentrate on the loop only....

Oh Dear, I came up with 'rabbits' for God's sake.....must've had some bad dream about
Australian feral pests..... ?!

Many thanks for your kind words!

Nice Python-esque Picutre... &mdash 10/28/06 - 02:24:05 AM
Nice work here. I like how you chose to utilise the intervals in the loop rather than the theme itself and chose to manipulate it in that way. Immediately takes away the risk of it sounding rhythmically like many of the other takes on this. You caught the mood pretty well too... reminds me of some of the music for the old Final Fantasy games... particulary with the amount of reverb in the bass.

Nicely done Alf!

All the above, nice chopping and use of the individual parts to make a nice tune.

Were-Rabbit? There Rabbit! &mdash 10/28/06 - 07:50:12 AM
Ah, very inventive... using a chunk of the loop as a note to build chords and progressions around, as a whole new piece, very nice... and, the piece itself is very cool, sort of a large plodding vegetarian with skittish thoughts. I like it! Oh, and as for the ending... there's this little-known purple triangle marker in GarageBand that is above all the tracks, way off at the end... drag that back to nearer the end of your piece and it will mark the "real" ending, and truncate anything beyond it.
ttfn,
Drakonis

Here Rabbit! &mdash 10/28/06 - 05:18:36 PM
Thanks Drak...
Actually I know of the 'wee-known' purple triangle, however in this case, I was in such a hurry to submit the piece on time, I actually didn't bother to see if there were any more 'surprises' lurking beyond my anticipated 'ending'...
LOL!

Vorpal Bunny? &mdash 12/07/06 - 08:26:59 PM
Ha! All I can think of now is those rabbits hopping around a model landscape in slow motion. Nice use of transposition and chopping to build a composition from such limited material - especially where the melody is concerned. The wierd tonal distortion that comes from transposing the loop creates a sort of unsettling feel. The whole piece does have a retro-horror quality.

Ooh. The end is creepy with the bits amidst the silence. You might think they're gone, but they're out there... being homicidally cute!

Brian, you realise we have a serious vorpal problem in Australia with these bloody rabbits!
LOL!
Thanks for stopping by to listen!

(...although I reckon now we'll have to organise some immunisation shots for you!)
