Description:
Maybe the soundtrack to an Eastern action movie. After reading your comments (thanks for this) I altered its category to "Cinematic Soundtrack". Nearly 95% MIDI work with three samples/loops. Please feel free to comment and/or vote ...

changeups &mdash 10/30/06 - 08:56:26 AM
Trick intro! You blew my face off. This is smackdown Far Eastern cinematic stuff. Could be a soundtrack for a fight action spy thriller movie. Did you do a lot of hand penciling with the MIDI editor? Or did you do some note entry via MIDI keyboard? You have some complex and rich interplays going on here. And the sound spectrum is deep, wide and bright. Very nice. Lots of imagery. My only crit it to say you must be careful to weave a common thread throughout. Some of the change-ups make it sound like a portfolio of sound sampler. This applies to the piece as a standalone song. But as a cinematic soundtrack it could probably work quite well with the changeups. [ Reply to This ]
Well ... &mdash 10/30/06 - 09:27:22 AM
... the mix contains only a few samples or sound loops (e.g. the vocals at the beginning, the effected drum loop), all other parts (drums, percussions, violins, sitars, harps, dub horns, basses, orchestra elements a.s.o.) are software instruments, which I indeed mainly pencilled with the MIDI editor ... some melodies I added via MIDI keyboard. But you are right: it sounds like a cinematic soundtrack of a "Bollywood"production. Thanks for your comment! [ Reply to This ]

Very interesting &mdash 10/30/06 - 12:59:37 PM
Cool stuff. I liked it much. I love the way you play in the ears with the stereo effects. I thought the end was a little weak. Too abrupt. I wanted more. Maybe try a big finish. The horns needed a bit more POP as well. Drums were neat.
Very nice textures throughout. Good stuff. Nice work with the MIDI. [ Reply to This ]

Soundtracky, indeed &mdash 10/30/06 - 01:31:55 PM
Firstly - a very fitting title.
I really liked when the power came in right after that vocal sample although I must admit that the software horns are really bad. Not the writing - just the sound itself. I've always had a thing against those horns so you'll have to forgive my little rant :)
The synthy parts of this really reminded me of one of my favorite video games, ever - Deus Ex. So I really enjoyed those parts.
Your melodies are also really nice and the way you've put everything together is pretty darn good. Some of the transition could've been a little bit smoother but just a tiny bit.
But all in all an interesting and enjoyable piece - just try and replace those horns :P

... I'm not really a friend of horns or trumpets, too ... I was about to kick them out, but for some reason I didn't. Except that, I agree with your advices ... Thx! [ Reply to This ]
journey &mdash 10/30/06 - 01:49:39 PM
fantastic!! this is really progressed. it's becoming an spectacular cimematic soundscape. the textures and themes are captivating. it's very epic in scope, so i do think this piece sounds like an overture or into to a score of some sort (an independent film, for example), rather than a single "electropop" track. do you have any further plans for this? ... you speak truth, it rather sounds like a cinematic soundtrack (for ... maybe ... a far-eastern action movie). No ... I've got no further plans with it ... was just fun ... and unfortunately I don't even know a film that would fit ... except a second revision? [ Reply to This ]

powerful writing &mdash 10/31/06 - 12:11:43 PM
I like the faux-start, then the attention-grabbing main theme. I love brass, and I think you have written the horn parts in well, but the sampled horms are not very good in GB. Please do NOT get rid of the horns, but maybe you can try a couple things to make them sound better. First, try Jampack 4, or some free soundfonts out there. Or, try doubling the horn track, pan them apart a little, and set one up an octave. Also, try playing with the volume and expression curves on the long held notes... ramp up the volume on that one note, so it crescendos. That will sound more realistic.
I like this, it has an interesting mix of instruments, and is an enjoyably rich-sounding orchestration. This is worth working on the horns more! :-)

Wow ... &mdash 10/31/06 - 02:15:34 PM
... you posted a great "How to save the Horns" Manual ... so, many thanks for that, Drakonis!!! I will follow ... maybe the reason, why the dub horns sound like cheap plastic horns are the Boldt sharp violins playing simultaniously at the same pitch. So I will work on them and bring them to life. [ Reply to This ]

I'm sitting here in Portland, Oregon USA tonight, downloading some of your tunes and thoroughly enjoying them. Keep up the good work. I make local community TV videos, might use a tune of yours some day, but nothing planned at present.
Cheers,
