Ahhhhh.... &mdash 11/02/06 - 06:09:16 PM
So wistful... Unrequited love, waiting, hoping, dreaming... Ok, now I need to go watch a comedy or something. Very beautiful and pleasing to the senses.

Yeh. That's what I thought, too. I'd like to score a movie that has a really sad ending...Strange, huh?

transcendental quality... &mdash 11/02/06 - 10:55:29 PM
do you ever get the feeling you are hearing music from before you were born? This gives me that feeling........I love the variations of moods displayed...... and the flowing keyboard.... it maintains an uncanny balance throughout, which gives the sense of other worldliness to me. Beautiful work. The NightBird ~

Thank you, Nightbird, for the nice comments. Yes to your question and I also feel (usually) that I am out-of-step with anything contemporary that is going on in the field of "popular" composition. Nevertheless, I write what I write and am glad that you enjoy it. Thanks for taking the time to drop me a note.

Contented nostalgia &mdash 11/03/06 - 10:46:57 AM
Beautiful, sad waltz. Wonderful playing and touch. Did you use the Ivory plug in on this? The track is quite soft; consider compressing the track a tad, or limited it, to boost the volume. It is great by itself, but in a playlist with other compressed tunes it may get lost. Wonderfully balance, classic composition. Extremely enjoyable.

I agree with you on the volume. with a headset it sounds great, but it IS a tad to soft. Happy you enjoyed the song. when I wrote the opening string chords after the little piano intro, I just loved the sound. It's my #39 orchestra on a Roland JV-880, just about the only stop I use on this sound mod, but I think it was worth the price anyway. When I recorded this piece I had not yet purchased the Ivory software, so this is a stock Roland piano...the best digital piano I had up to that time (about 3 months ago).
It's good...but not AS good as the Ivory. I may rerecord one day, but usually I just push onward. What's done is done.
Thanks again for the helpful comments. That balance thing is a tricky business.

Legrand part 2 &mdash 11/03/06 - 04:45:32 PM
Michel Legrand - the composer of the film Summer of 42 - would be proud maybe a bit envious? of this lovely piece. It's a wonderful theme you have here Paul and it is something that would nicely fit with a romantic film of this type. I'd love to see you get such an opportunity. In addition the playing is wonderfully relaxed and perfectly suites the piece.

thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I try to keep the strings subdued because, well, they're not the $10,000 brand of software. Lots of reverb and wide separation makes the sound from cheap strings sound pretty mellow.

Thank you very much for your nice comments about my music. It is so strange to me that a number of people want to listen to my things multiple times. That is very nice indeed. Your positivity really motivates me. Thanks again.

Sleep &mdash 11/08/06 - 07:30:32 PM
This song puts me to sleep, but I mean that in a good way! It is so restful and beautiful that it brings immediate rest. Keep up the good work!

Hey. Don't feel bad. ... I listen to my music often as I am trying to get to sleep so that I can check recording levels and for mistakes and such...and usually fall asleep before the end of the first song. My stuff is the best sleeping pill I'm aware of... But I understand your comment and am thankful for it. I don't believe music needs to be appalling, loud, or barbaric to have an impact. I have gotten some comments here from folks who generally don't listen to or write this kind of composition and they seem to find peace in it, too. Go figure.

Gorgeous &mdash 11/10/06 - 07:20:42 PM
Film music is my favorite genre and this is a top-notch example of the style it emulates. This is the second piece I've heard of yours and, so far, it's two for two.;)

Max, Thanks. There's absolutely NOTHING to this arrangement: simple piano, some chordal strings to back up... but maybe that's why it seems to work: no big old production number. Sometimes too much is just, well, too much. Glad you enjoyed the piece and the other one, too. I have a few other things up. When you get a chance, you might enjoy them. Thanks for dropping me a note. I really appreciate the feedback.

Awesome! &mdash 12/04/06 - 06:29:42 PM
I love good piano ballads. I've listened to George Winston for years and grew to appreciate the quality sound from a grand piano. I could sit and listen to it for hours. Very, Very nice sound!

Tone...
Glad you enjoy this little tune. On this number I used a stock Roland piano. Some of my other things, though, use Ivory software which is much cleaner and closer to the real thing. You might enjoy "Wind-tossed" "Freebird" and/or "Polliwog's Cakewalk." All three are solo piano numbers that use the Ivory German Steinway. It's pretty cool. Check it out when you have time.
Peace.
