Yours was a very nice comment and a wonderful blessing to begin my day. I'm glad you found "Meditation" peaceful. Later on today I'm planning on visiting some of your own comps. You have a great day.

Delightful! &mdash 11/03/06 - 10:21:51 AM
This is some of the most beautiful piano music I've hear in a long, long time! Truly outstanding in so many ways. First of all, one thing I always say you can't learn, is how you make the piano sound, the warmth and intensity without a single harsh note. That's a gift. The rest is just amazing technical skill and talent. No need for me to point out the obvious, but the soundscape you create here is quite fascinating to me, as you have both the element of organic flow and spontaneous improvisation, while you maintain this focused and transparent musical quality, as if it were a composition worked out meticulously on paper (or on computer). Anyway, the calm, serenity and poise I hear in your music is truly inspiring and makes me want to have a grand piano again...thanks for sharing!

Thank you for your very generous comments about this little piece. Actually, I do write out most of what I play, though lately it has been mostly sketches to get the structure and harmonic content exact...and the key melodic elements as well. I always think a composition has to GO somewhere and not just be pretty-sounding notes or a "mood." Those things happen by themselves if the rest is worked out... I really appreciate the care you take in commenting on my music. That takes time and I truly appreciate it. So, thanks again for listening and I am glad you enjoyed this little number. These kinds of pieces are easy to lose...but you didn't.

But it isn't dissicult to hear that you are! I enjoyed all your postings so far and have fav'd them all and downloaded for later replay. They are very soothing without ever getting uninteresting, things are happening all the time...
So big thanks, I'm looking forward to more...

Thank you. I am pleased that you are finding the music soothing. I have been told that for a long time, but new by such a large audience as this. It is a nice affirmation and I'll try not to let you down.

I've always said that there are three types of musicians: Writers (who are inherently good composers, but not necessarily good at performance), Players (who can play an instrument, reading sheet music, with the utmost in technical accuracy), and Genius (who can do both AND simultaneously pull the heart strings of certain susceptible listeners.

I just feel darn lucky to be able to tell you what an impact your music has on me.

Paul, this is beautiful. &mdash 11/08/06 - 10:50:28 PM
Wonderful tone. These people with their Ivory software.... Just blows me away, it sounds like a great piano in a great room mic'd with great mics by a great engineer...

The composition flows very organically. Beautiful but not soppy, well paced, perfectly played...

Ed,
Thanks for your nice words. I purchased Ivory about 6 weeks ago and have already produced two full CDs. I can't even TELL you how much inspiration the sound gives to my brain, my soul, my fingers. It is truly remarkable, and not very expensive considering what you get. For that matter, GarageBand is a $99 program and look what it's done for all of us in just a couple of years? No longer are we slaves to high-priced recording studios. It is such an amazing techno world we live in. For a guy who started out 45 years ago with a Walensack "stereo" reel to reel, I can hardly believe what's possible in my own little studio today at home.

ripples on a pond &mdash 11/09/06 - 10:43:12 AM
You do indeed invoke a peaceful, introspective mood on this very well-crafted and beautifully performed piece.

One of the interesting aspects of this work is that you manage to convey a consistent mood throughout, yet there are many different little musical ideas presented which could diffuse the musical "message" in less capable hands than yours.

I am particularly impressed with your touch on the piano keys; always balanced, full and resonant. The bass octaves towards the end demonstrate this exceptionally well.

There are hints of jazz contained within this piece, reminiscent of New Age piano artists such as Liz Story, Suzanne Chiani and Paul Halley. This music could easily fit into the New Age genre.

But the good thing about music like this is that it transcends genre boundaries and is therefore universal.

Thank you for sharing this piece!

Cameron,
A second note... This may strike you as strange, but I only KNOW the name George Winston and have never even heard of the other composers you mention in your e-mail. My listening for the last 40 years or so has been primarily to pure classical music. Sure, I catch songs on the radio and have my collected Beatles, Carpenters, etc. from the Stone Age, but the so-called "New Age" music is a term I don't fully understand. In some respects I have purposely avoided listening to too much popular contemporary music because I didn't want the influence. MacJams will surely give me some new ideas, though; yet I am determined to forge my own way...whatever that might be. I am so very encouraged by the comments I have been receiving here, though.

.. a little while ago while listening to one of your other tunes ... glad I kept them out ... and I say .. this was a GOOD cry .... your music is truly soul reaching .... although most of my own postings here on macjams range from weird to wild .. I can still appreciate a beautiful piece of music when I hear one! You've definitely "got the gift".

Alannah,
Thank you so much for dropping me a note about "Longing," my string orch number, and "Meditation." That they evoked some deeper emotions in you is really gratifying to hear, especially from someone who doesn't typically listen to this kind of music. I am finding that I, too, am enjoying the MacJams experience of hearing music I wouldn't otherwise access. Anyway, my Sunday morning starts out with your kudos and a smile on my face. Thank you.
