Keywords:
The Loon (1)Hula Moon (1)Friends (33)
Description:
This version, modified, incorporates the changes put forward in the Highly Valuabe Crit Comments on the previous, but inevitably lost, Song Page.

Pastorale.

Written at time of the Harvest Moon, One of Autumn's Great Gifts. Inspired by thoughts about an indominable friend and Poet, Ms. Jane Kerrigan O'Keefe. Clearly, to know her is to know that she would have the Hula Moon as Her parasol.

A bit more Up in outlook than CHANGED SINCE THEN.

Again, this is the "Mule" for a Collab in progress. May not sound this way, ultimately, but this is how it started.

Very Best Regards,
The Loon

Lyrics:
THE LOON AND THE HULA MOON

The Fog comes tumblin’
Up the Coastline’s edge, And
Inside my head,
Ideas are tumblin’
And Rumblin’
Too.

The Thunder stopped,
The Rain will, Soon,
While Waves beat the Rock,
Where stands the Loon
Lookin’ So long and hard
At the Sea.

Don’t know What it is
He wants
More and More
As he keeps lookin’ Harder
To See
What he doesn’t
See.

Sun goes fallin’
In the Clouds,
Then’ll come the Dark,
But, It ain’t Loud.
‘Cept for the lightening in my Brain,
Blindin’
Me.

North wind Comes
Blastin’ and Dancin’
Blowin’ the Rain
‘Gainst my Face
But it don’t replace
The numbness ‘round my Heart
Where the Love for You
Used to be.

Just when It Is
I
Can’t
See

There, coming
Right towards Me

An Old Friend.
She waves.
Calls my name,
Like a Tune.

The Rain it stopped
The Wind’s gone Low,
She’s Striding Along.
She’ll be Here, Soon
On the Waves ‘hind her
I see
She’s Brought the

Hula Moon.
Yeah,
The Hula Moon
She’s brought the Hula Moon.

Of All Things!
(And tell your money, Be Shy)
Her Wan Smile
Is a Lullaby
To the This and the That,
That They Say to Prove that
They’re Better than You.

RIGHT HERE.
Big as
ALL and ALL.
The Hula Moon is Her
Parasol.

She’s bringing Gifts and
Nobody
Even ever
Asked her to.

The Loon raises his Wings above His head,
He’s seeing what he saw,
And All the Saying’s been Said

He
Steps into Flight
Swoops into the Night

And over the Tree tops

He’s Swooping,

Toward His
Hula
Moon

Yeah,
He’s Swooping towards
The Hula Moon.

Even better... &mdash 11/04/06 - 10:33:22 AM
...if that's at all possible! I'm sad about the loss of the old comments...but I like the pay-off! Besides...this should generate a huge batch of them! What can I say but I love everything about this piece---from the Dylan-esque vocal delivery to the Brian Jone-ish lead soloing. A sonic marvel!

Be well!

wow - &mdash 11/04/06 - 11:44:04 AM
sounds better than Dylan ! Or at least as good.

Terrific word Hula Moon, very well put and quite lyrical and the melody really fits niftly This place is amazing at macjams. Your Dylan sound is incredibly accurate and seems so melodic, with a real special feeling using those words that are so catchy

PRO LEVEL &mdash 11/04/06 - 01:27:52 PM
Pro Level Crit from you on the Original Page. True "A-Game" Call, Brother.

Pulling the Vx Levels back, as oppossed to pinning everything else to it, Operned the entire Sound Scape. This made room for the BALANCE that was missing. GOOD One, MR. Z T. Real Good.

I ain't Never going to be the MixMaster Dog, but I try to make things work OK. The CRIT COMMENTS from the Original Page made it happen much better.

THAT is So Big to Me, Brother. BIG.

With Very Best Regards,

Cooper

oh yeah beat that strat! &mdash 11/04/06 - 03:19:58 PM
better mix. the guitars are more stronger in the mix. some great leads i'm drooling over. after i listened to your earlier version i kept thinking there is something that was familiar. a bit of donovans atlantis in the verse section, which had a magical simple chord progression, but of course this is 100's times better, with no disrepect to donovan of course, big thumbs up!

All About the Vx Levels &mdash 11/05/06 - 07:36:00 AM
Thank You for Hanging Tough and for coming back.

While it Sounds that way, No Gain was added to the Mx! It is that the Gain for the Vx Tracks got pulled back 6dB, as Mr. Z T suggested. Just that, opened the Sound Stage, so you can hear the Guitars and the Kit as if they had be repositioned. I Know that there is only so much room in the envelope and you have to spread it around, but, sometimes, I sure forget. It's the single biggest thing I (now) know about mixing.

Thank You, Brother.

With Very Best Regards,

Coop

Inspired by a Poet... &mdash 11/04/06 - 04:43:37 PM
...and quite poetic in it's own right. Lovely lyrics. Sparse yet powerful mix with oh so pretty guitars. I'm starting to really admire your vocal delivery. It's becoming part of that signature RT Cooper sound to me and that's not a bad thing. I like how you kicked up the reverb when the Hula Moon verse hits home and the punchy solo. Can't quite put my finger on it, perhaps it's just the sum total of elements, but there's something that really touches my soul about this tune and I think that's quite an accomplishment. What is good music, really, other than that? Some of the chord changes, and the vocal melody on top of it, by design or simple serendipity, sound somewhat like Brain Damage/Eclipse from Dark Side of the Moon. You've got this great vortex of musical history going here and your still making it all your own. Nice. Naturally, I'm a little disappointed that I can't download it but I guess I can wait for the CD.

WALKING AND CHEWING GUM &mdash 11/05/06 - 07:56:10 AM
Say, Brother

Well, you know that One Note anchor on the Four string in the Rhy Gtr part, I kept looking at the Guitar while I was singing 'cause I'd have to start over each time I missed one of those notes, even if it was, like, three minutes In.

While the Loon and the narrator (the same) are pretty damn happy here when she arrives with the Hula Moon, I, (the guitar player) was getting More Nervous as the song went on!

Some Set of Ears on You to Pick That up, Eh?

Amazing, Brother!

Love the sound on this guitar, Insert that lead and it gives a chill - Nice fit.

You are perfecting that Vocal style, man, it sounds good, top it with your finesse at scribing the prose to complete the package.

Great song!

TWANGY THINGS &mdash 11/05/06 - 08:56:42 AM
The "Twang" thang is, I'm afraid, a blown (blowing slowly) 12AX7 and may no longer be available when replaced. But, You use what you Got, Eh?

Like that Voice that you, rather kindly, refer to as a Style (I'm looking for someone Else to do the singing - All the Time!).

Thank You HR

Terrific Song, RT &mdash 11/07/06 - 09:15:46 PM
Awesome performance and production. Sounds like you expanded the vox panning or echo effect as the song drew closer to the end. If so, cool choice. Way to keep me glued to your song.

Great work with the tasty guitar chops. You have a really full sound.

A keeper

Thank You for your Crits, Help, and Encouragement.

I GUESS You can Mix, 'cause that's Just what happens there, the Vx pan to the sides and make room for the other "Voices" in the development of the last third!

BINGO, MAN!

Drums are really on, and your lyrics and vocals are working beautifully - easily your best yet imho!!
