Lyrics
despair

yeah, i know...

sometimes i just worry
i worry about
the big picture

i mean
not just me
and my life
or my family

i mean
it seems like sometimes

we're just heading
nowhere
there's giant issues that nobody seems to really care about
everybody's just focussed on
their own issues

and here we are
plunging into who knows what

and it's really, really hard
to be optimistic

upbeat

or, or just anything positive at all

it just seems like
the world
is goin' to hell in a handbasket

but
that's nothing new

i've read that
years and years ago
that people thought that way

apparently, people thought about this
a long, long time ago
many generations back
that we are just goin' down the tube

and yet
here we are now
doin' the same stuff

so
maybe i shouldn't worry at all
yet
in the final analysis
i am concerned
big time
it seems like the end is near

but...
i'm probably wrong
(i hope i'm wrong)

but...
i'm probably wrong

still
it just feels that way

so
there it is

Food for thought..
It's true. We feel like the world isspinning out of control, and if we watch the news for about 5 minutes, we know it is. and it's also true that people have always felt this way. It's just getting exponentially worse. We can all just have as much integrity as we can, and pray that God will intercede in the dark places. I like how you did this. Your voice is calm in the midst of swirling chaos, (done very creatively!). There is always hope. :-)

yup, just what i was getting at. it does seems overwhelming at times. and somehow trying to invoke the perspective of history doesn't seem to help. it seems like we are in unique times.

Always interesting
You always come up with some interesting things here on MJams.
The nice thing about posting a piece like this here is that it is cheaper than the 150 bucks an hour that the shrink charges.

I'm glad you posted this. Good combo of the right music and the right thoughts. I like the tape machine effect you put on the voice.

wow. your comment about a shrink has me worried now. i was going for dark, but, yikes!, i was only exaggerating for effect. are *you* doing OK? :-)

how dark is too dark?

but seriously, it seems i succeeded. thanks for listening!

i must respond to your comment on the tape machine effect. LOL. it *is* a tape machine. i've discovered that even if you record a "demo" recording, with the intent of replacing it with a more polished version later, sometimes the original extemporaneous performance turns out to be the best take of them all. so the lesson i'm learning is: record even demo stuff as best you can. you never know.

Election Eve doldrums
or plain old fear - the enemy. certainly seems pretty damn uniQuely scary these days - but uniQueness is another form of isolation - which is what we're feeling these days i think. isolation. it separates us not only from eachother - but also from god - whatever that is. good piece for troubled times. you are not alone.

we seem to all be taught as kids that we are unique, one-of-a-kind. or else it's built in to our brains somehow.

so when we feel things like this, it's easy to feel like it's our own personal problem. and you hit the nail on the head. i didn't realize it, but you're right: it's all about isolation, isn't it? the antidote is: family, friends, everyone around you.

poetry is a strange medium. i love it.

too personal sounding
yikes! it's happening again. it seems like if i write something that's a little "too close for comfort" this certain effect kicks in. see:
Just A Couple Of Drops In The Ocean near the end.

No End - No Big Picture :)
As long as you are out there living, as long as you care, as long as you are ding tracks like this - there is no ending !
And it is not the same as it ever was - or have we been sitting in the global village like this sharing songs by the campfire like this a long time before ?

i like your idea of sharing songs by the campfire. that has been happening for thousands of years. today, we've replaced the campfire with a huge energy distribution system, but the essence of gathering around the campfire is still here in a very real, as well as virtual, way.

thanks!

Really liked it...
The whole mood was captured with the tone of voice, and the music behind it was very fitting too. I'm writing a piece just now that i'd love to use some of this dialogue in. Is Bill Grundmann your friend? Anyway gonna check out some more of your stuff. Ta.

There is nothing new
under the sun...until each of us change our habits. It is uncomfortable to change our habits. Ennui, apathy or fear...it's all bad. Very personal and very appropriate. Thanks, Smokey.

Eclectic, at best. I learned some music theory at school, and read a ton about it since. I've listened to lots of music over the years. I once played guitar in an actual garage band and actually got paid to play! Once. Although live performance is an... [see more]
