Description
solo native american flute:

A mournful dirge, written for a friend, a homeless man named Nathan. He was brutally stabbed to death.

The last time that I saw him his dog had just given birth to a litter of pups. He asked me if I ever talk to God. When I replied that I did, he told me to tell him that he didn't need anymore dogs...

held my breath
somber, soulful, natural beauty across centuries. Beautifully played. Possibly a little too much tail on the reverb, but on the other hand, its probably OK as is. Gorgeous, simple, haunting, thank you for such a nice performance!

Hey Wade
Sad indeed.... Despite the funny quote, this is soulful in remembrance. Are you of native American bloodline? Just curious.... You play this with that kind of emotion, however....

actually
I'm mostly scottish (hence the last name) and german, there's a great grandfather in the mix somewhere that was cherokee. never knew him or anything about him. Like most suburban middle class american kids, I never had any real sense of heritage. the only rituals my family ever had involved a lot of cheap beer. The only native american culture I know is what I've learned from books (take that for whatever it's worth). I do listen to a lot of native american artist, so i'm sure some of the influences has rubbed off on me at least a little. In no way am I coming from any sort of traditional background on this, nor would I ever claim to. Thanks for the kind words.

actually...
i liked the reverb. adds to lonliness in a vast void. tragedy that there seems to be a hard violence in the world even over the most petty things. but that line...profound yet funny at the same time.

Beautiful
Very pretty and moving piece of music. The reverb sounded perfect. If that was a midi wind instrument, it was amazing. The only criticisms I can think of is that there is some hiss at the beginning, and the ending is rather abrupt. Other than that, a very beautiful piece of music.

nope
no midi, wooden flute made of cedar, real rainstick in the background mixed very low. no synthetic sounds except for the verb. it was recorded in one take, kind of spur of the moment, release of emotion kind of thing, the hiss maybe from the air conditioner, as it was recorded in the summer, I didn't notice it when tracking but I did after I mixed it, just decided to leave it as is. it was more about the moment than about perfection. Thanks for the compliments.

At once mournful...
...and somewhat "cosmic" (I think). This is beautifully done Wade, and I, for my part, think your use of reverb dead-on effective. The playing is lovely and the mix spacious and lush. A nice tribute for the victim of a shameless act of evil.

Be well friend!
