Description:
In August of 05 I did a brief, 12 day, tour of the middle west coast (Santa Cruz to Portland). One stop was in Eugene OR where I did a benefit concert for my friend Nancy's daughter, Mieka, a first year UO student who just months before had been diagnosed with Hodgkins. I wrote this song for her and performed it for her at the concert.

Right now she's in remission!!!

Peter, this is beautiful and touching... &mdash 11/09/06 - 10:00:43 PM
...and I love everything about it. The tune itself, melody and harmony, is lovely and evocative. Your playing is so good, and the recording of the guitar is pristine. I REALLY like the percussion. Very alive, very warm, very musical.

And I love that photograph...

Gosh this has such heart, such good, clear heart...

thanks &mdash 11/10/06 - 08:52:11 AM
Thanks Ed, my percussionist, Bertram, is truly great. Every gig I play with him is inspiring - no lie.

In a few years they will be able to say Mieka is cancer free! That will be a good day!

Nice tune and really good production

.. and .. like .. in some way I feel very familiar to your way of playing. Sounds "at home" in some way ..

welcome &mdash 11/10/06 - 09:10:18 AM
Mr Janson... the composition as well as the performance is exellent... and I wouldn't expect passion to peek through in this genre or style, because at first it has an "Easy Listening" vibe... but as I listen this cuts through to the core... there is a sence of urgency that obviously must be there... becaus eof the subject

this is perfect

so subtle &mdash 11/10/06 - 10:48:57 AM
and beautifully graceful. Is there some synth work going on in the background? its so expertly placed as to frame the guitar playing and nuanced percussion. This is great.

Thanks John, I appreciate your taking the time to check out my music. Yes there is a bit of synth work going on behind the acoustic guitar, bass, and hand percussion. I'm also using a Raagini tanpura machine at the beginning and end of the song.

Your music has a ring of perfection to it. From compostion to excecution to production it is all flawless. I can't make one note on my guitar that sounds as pure as this. (how do you do that?) Again this is some of the most perfect music that I've heard here, or any where for that matter.

Thanks Matt, I appreciate your comments. I'm not sure "how" I get the sounds I do... I guess it's just following your ears or something. Wish I had a better answer.

A lovely thing you did... &mdash 11/11/06 - 12:41:20 PM
not just the quality of writing and recording in this beautiful tune... but, doing it for Mieka (and your friend Nancy). Giving a benefit concert and translating through your guitar your feelings and hope for her.

1st class all the way.

But... &mdash 11/11/06 - 01:02:00 PM
...that's not EXACTLY what I said... So I don't come off like I'm setting up Peter's social calendar or anything...

What I said was, "You could meet him!", and what I was meaning is that Peter is part of that MacJams New England (actually MacJams Massachusetts) crew... Not like he's in London or Seattle or anything...

That being said, I think you two guys would really enjoy each other, and I'd love to see some musical interplay someday.... I'm ALWAYS ready to volunteer Ziti's house...and pool... I think the last time I saw you, Peter, was my 40th birthday party, so maybe I just need to get older again and celebrate it... You guys can bring me outrageous guitars as presents, and all will be well...

So very pretty - both the song and Mieka &mdash 11/11/06 - 02:57:52 PM
This is such great music. Beyond the heartful, skillful guitar work, I absolutely love how you set your playing on a nice warm synth bed. Bertram's contribution is also full of heart, and works perfectly.

The chord structure lends itself to the heart you intended here. I am sure that this lovely woman, Mieka, was very inspired by this piece. I most certainly am.

May she be blessed with great health the rest of her long life, and may the light that shines so strongly through her eyes in the picture help heal others as well.

A beautiful gift &mdash 02/20/07 - 02:41:14 PM
taken many ways... you have a great gift for playing and writing music, it is shown here. You also betray a great heart for offering such a beautiful gift to Mieka (We just recently visited Eugene for the first time on vacation, quite an endearingly warm college city.) Anyway, very pretty guitar composition and nice understated string accompaniment and perfect percussion work, well-recorded to bring out the rich resonance of the guitar. Offering my belated welcome to Macjams!
