Description:
Thanks a lot to Neil & Jan...

PS
Neil= class

Neil say:

"SIL-VER surprised me over a month ago with the backing track to this, but
with a bad dose of the 'flu and a 3 week camping trip, I held things up a
little. This is essentially a love song for my wife Jan, who sings the top
harmony in the girlie chorus. I always wanted to do a backwards guitar
solo, but boy it's difficult getting both hands behind your back :)"

Lyrics:
This Thing (Will Only Get Better)
© 2006 Max Ferrusi (music) /Neil Porter (words)

In a cloudless world
On a sunny day
Your morning smile
Takes my breath away

I can see us now
Walking through the countryside
I really love you now
I want to tell it far and wide

I can hear my heart
As it skips a beat
Want to touch your skin
In the summer heat

(This thing will only get better)
I see holes in my life
I only want to fill them with you
I see the rest of my days
I only want to spend them with you
I see better times
I can only make them better with you
La la la la la la la
la la la la la la la

I can see us now
Walking through the countryside
I really love you now
I want to tell it far and wide

Walking hand in hand
On a silent beach
On a starlit night
On a city street

(This thing will only get better)
I feel a space in my heart
I know I’m going to fill it with you
I see the rest of my days
I only want to spend them with you
I see better times
I can only make them better with you
La la la la la la la
la la la la la la la

Hey Fran! &mdash 11/11/06 - 12:07:29 AM
SIL-VER seems to be able to squeeze as much dynamic as possible from his tracks - he amazes me. I really enjoyed the challenge of the backward guitar solo on this - quite a mathematical exercise as it turned out :)
Cheers,
Neil

yes cool &mdash 11/10/06 - 10:09:41 PM
very way trippy beat and rythymic lines. the piano break into the chorus was intensely good. distinctly jiguma with an incredible synth driven backdrop.

Thanks John &mdash 11/11/06 - 12:12:15 AM
It's a real (and unexpected) pleasure having SIL-VER ask me to do these colabs - his backings let me go some places where my guitars just can't go. Glad you enjoyed it.

Hopeless romantics, these Australians... &mdash 11/10/06 - 10:37:57 PM
This may not be 'sickly', but it sure is sweet...

I love the unusual blend of instruments, and the jiguma voice seems more bravely 'out there' than is often the case... must be the subject matter...

And. . . . . . . &mdash 11/11/06 - 12:19:34 AM
it was written and recorded in 2006 Ed!

Thanks for dropping by - I have another Rusty Dusty Bros song from the old days to go up soonish just so you don't feel too lonely living in the past.

Appreciate your comment - we're too tough down here to be hopeless romantics - we're normally just hopeless ; )

awesome track &mdash 11/11/06 - 04:41:23 AM
Just like the previous Sil-VER/Jiguma song, this one is again top-notch. The chorus is brilliant and glues to your ears immediately. This is such a delight to listen to (which I did more that once!).
One little quibble if you permit me? It seems that some of the lower notes (day, away, countryside,...) are just a tiny bit too low for your voice, Neil, or at least maybe just 'too near to the borderline'. I'm sure you know what I mean :-)
But what a brilliant production, a feast to my ears. This 'lalala' in the chorus is disarmingly charming and a nice surprise as well.

Those low notes! &mdash 11/11/06 - 06:15:06 AM
Hi Walter, thanks for the comment. I definitely know what you mean about the low notes - (and you are an expert on low of course). My daughter suggested the other week that I should try doing my lead vocals in what is now the register I do my first harmony - ie, bounce it up some. Considering that on the rare times I sang harmony in my early band days I used to sing falsetto, maybe she has a point. I'm writing one at the moment which is turning out far too low for me, so I'm re-doing all the guitar tracks with a capo. Like everything else, I'm learning as I go as far as vox goes, and I'll just put your very legit suggestion into my "music program" in my head. Maybe you could do voice double for me :)

Never a prob for a voice double, Neil:-) Or any vocal addition in general. Would love to do that.

Brilliant &mdash 11/11/06 - 05:48:47 AM
.. production is particularly amazing. I felt for the singing, it might better
for you if you could stretch to sing with it up a semitone or a whole tone.
(mainly 'cos of the note you go down to on the end of the 2nd and 4th lines of the verses). Just a suggestion.

Kudos on all instruments - catchy too. Amazing backing from Sil-Ver.

Low &mdash 11/12/06 - 02:25:27 AM
Not quite as low as I thought - definitely need to go up a semitone or two next time.
Cheers, Neil

Nice collab &mdash 11/12/06 - 02:03:24 AM
... adesso .... Io voglio fare una collaborazione con l'ARGENTO (SIL-VER) .... suppose I should get in line! I think I would like to hear the "Jiguma Voice" with a few less FX or layerings ... not sure how it was mixed ... being a novice in this area ... but for my personal tastes I always like to hear the singer with clarity.

Hey Neil... &mdash 11/13/06 - 05:27:45 PM
....try keeping your hands out front and turn your torso around! LOL! Great stuff this. Sweet sentiment in the lyrics. Amazing grooves and percussion by Sil-VER. It's strange hearing you sing over this kind of soundscape, but it does work. It's so cool to try our hand at different genres. Thanks for directing me to this!

Be well!

PS---How in blazes did you produce that backwards lead?

[ Reply to This ]
Backwards lead &mdash 11/14/06 - 03:40:39 AM
I'm so glad you asked Mike! I've always wanted to do this, and it turned out to be so much easier than expected. I simply reversed SIL-VER's solo package in Audacity or Sound Studio, played a normal lead while trying to think in reverse as far as crescendo's and things went. I was really pleased with myself - I'm now really pleased with you for noticing!
Cheers,
Neil

Lalalala... &mdash 11/16/06 - 01:39:40 PM
Hah ha ha... --You hang out in the most grooviest places, my friend... And it's way cool, that it gets to be about you and your best buddy, loved one, compadre, lover, closest friend, and I'm sure, just an all around cool person to end up in one of these most grooviest places with.

Neil, I'm no longer suprised that you would end up on a track like this, because regardless of the type of 'anything' that it might be, I believe that you will tend to play where there's an excellent supporting cast, and as long as things are, 'deeply groovin'...

This tune is 'deeply groovin' And everything about this is right! - Very nice work fellas!

Thanks! Dion

What a buzz to get another one of your longer comments after your time away in "seriousland". Hope things are going well in that part of the world where you actually get paid for music : )

btw, that's Jan in the photo - taken when we were in Morocco in '76.

Keep em coming Dion, just love getting your comments (although I hid this song pretty well didn't I)?
Cheers,

EXCELLENT &mdash 03/20/07 - 09:13:36 PM
what a great job of blending such diverse elements! the contrast of hard and soft is carried out several ways. neil = your airy vocal is so unique - don't know that i've ever heard one like it. you get the most out of harmony, too. jan, sweet job of takng the high road - the blend was so smooth with you in it. massi, you are magic! oo-WEE - the driving chorus is a thing of beauty - love the hard and dark and pounding music against that intimate vocal. yummy drums. all so very tastily mixed. this is a Favorite in more than one way. GOOD JOB, GANG! anne
