I like Glass &mdash 11/11/06 - 10:30:01 PM
Have for many years. If Island of War reminds you of his work that's cool with me. Thanks for checking this out and for the kind words.

the drums! &mdash 11/12/06 - 04:32:29 PM
I like the theme and harmonies, though it is a little short and needs a climax or bridge... it seems too even throughout, to me. There needs to be more building dynamics in the strings, and definitely more build on the snare. The constant-volume-constant-pattern drum gets very monotonous quickly. Maybe build the drum slowly from soft to loud during this "A" theme, then have a short section after this where the strings play a shorter staccato note B-theme with a different drum pattern, then repeat the "A" theme again and then do the ending? Just a thought... I think if there was a little more dynamic envelope in this A section, then it is worth repeating, it is nice! Or at least, it's my kind of slow melancholy "nice" anyway :-)

Thanks for the listen... &mdash 11/13/06 - 05:08:23 PM
... and the constructive comments - I think they could make this a more dramatic and maybe more effective piece overall.
Unfortunetly this was composed and performed before I started working in GB and I’d have to recreate it from scratch to accomplish some of this. One day I intend to go back and do just that with early works. Still I do like the relentless throbbing rhythm to this. A minimalist approach and slow build up that I felt with this drama. As I mentioned I do like Phil Glass and maybe there’s something of him in here.
Thanks again Drak.

Egobandit is right! It is very Philip Glass-esque. [Isn't "-esque" the best suffix in existance?!] It's got me ready to pack by bags to go off...To Canada to avoid the draft. Haha. Kidding aside, I like how the ending of the song is very unexpected because the song drives you and drives you and then you're left alone in the field. [ Reply to This ]

Ahhh...a score which evokes some powerful imagery! A composer after my own heart! Too brief, but enjoyable! [ Reply to This ]

Looked like you where out of action for a while. Good to see you back at MJ. Happy you enjoyed Island of War. Looking forward to more good music from you.
