Description:
A jazz fusion prog rock thing I think.

Many thanks to z293 who lays down the most incredible solos. As I told z, Alan Holdsworth would be proud.

sideways boogie &mdash 11/13/06 - 11:26:16 AM
edgy jazzy melodies here, wonderfully fun keyboard stuff (the boogiewoogie stuff got me smirking)... its interesting to have sort of a light airy keyboard melody and tougher unrelenting drums and super-caffeinated bass line (that bass line was wicked!) And of course Z293's guitar work was really great on this... it was almost startling when it all just stopped! Sort of like that last step on the escalator I guess :-)

Drak, thx for the thoughtful comment. I think Z captured the moment nicely.

Harold, like Drak said, just like an escalator. Or from where I used to live "moving stairs" Thanks for listening and commenting

definately &mdash 11/13/06 - 03:52:42 PM
smokin'... an unusual blend of textures, this works real well... plenty of drive and at the same time it floats or just grooves along... it's almost like an air traffic control system where different altitudes are traveling at different speeds... buuuuut z293 certainly has clearance to orbit

Scott, thx. I think you hit the nail on the head. there's def two (or more) different vibes here. Love the airspace analogy. Z293 definitely has clearance to take off, orbit and land.

Just Stopping By &mdash 11/13/06 - 06:06:05 PM
To say thanks to KTB for giving me the opportunity to play on this. I don't get much of a chance to play on this style of music that I love, so it was a pleasure. And thanks KTB for not posting my first version of this that I gave you, it let me come up with something that I was a lot happier with. Allan Holdsworth??? Never heard of him.

Z, you so made this a better song. Your tone and style is perfect. The solo's other worldly. Goose bump qualified.

Wow! &mdash 11/13/06 - 07:52:43 PM
Now I know what qualifies as 'Excellent/Stunning' in the voting tool. This is just awesome. Super production from you KTB, and first rate performances from you both. Love that bass too. This is just so good. Hmmm...that voting tool only goes to 10!?! I think they'll need an '11' for 'Sublime' now. Certainly one of the best I've heard on MJ. Thanks very much for the download.

You Know You Know &mdash 11/13/06 - 08:15:57 PM
John McLaughlin and Allan Holdsworth just wish there were a song this good on their respective most recent albums. Heck, it's been years since Allan has released a studio album .... I can't remember ... (looking on-line) 16 Men of Tain. Yep, I'll still stand by my statement. I'll take this one's sense of melody over the extra technique either can apply to music that is not as good.

Gorgeous comp, KTB.

Way to crank it up, Z!

So Z, did you Google Alan Holdswoth, yet?

I was just kidding about Allan Holdsworth. It's kind of embarrassing to be even slightly compared to him, the man is a moster in my opinion. I've been listening to him for probably 25 years, saw him do a clinic in the basement of a record store back in the 80's, got a couple of his books, instructional videos, and still can't play a lick that comes close to him. But thank you to everyone for the positive feedback on KTB's song.

I agree, He is a Monster &mdash 11/17/06 - 05:16:53 PM
I first heard hiim on some Tony Williams albums and then later on the first UK album. I've seen him live a couple of times with Chad Wackerman on drums. He's amazing.

Gee, karma... &mdash 11/14/06 - 11:05:57 PM
You are just showing up everywhere, and with such a cool palette of sounds and ideas...

This is just a neat study of proggy fusion harmony against proggy fusion lead line...

Plus, for some weird reason, I really like the graphic thingie...

You notice all the guitar players lining up to fav it... But the whole track is so full and tight without being busy... Neat...

Thanks Ed &mdash 11/15/06 - 06:45:57 AM
For pointing out that it really is the whole track that is tight, KTB's song still keeps growing on me. I really like the sound of every instrument he has choosen, so much so that KTB gave me a list of what he was using to get these sounds and I proceded to Google each one to see exactly what he was using. Some pretty impressive gear he has.

Ed, thank you for the comment. I appreciate it when someone of your skill and talents lends an ear and comments. This was one of those magic Mj moments when you tweak a jam to a certain point and then proffer the tune to another member, and then come away with an awesome track and a new friend! Maybe you can teach me someday to write meaningful and heartfelt lyrics! :-)

What a groove palace! That was tasty, tasty, and more tasty! Always a treat when I see your name. I can bet big, that I'm gonna get to go for a nice ride. And it never matters where were headed.

Nice work, Z. That was also some very tasty playn' on your part. Sweet, indeed!

That just left a good taste... Thanks! - Dion

You see, this is what i'm talking about! The mix on this is thunderous - the bass sounds fantastic, the drums sound really live and there are all the other tones and textures playing over it. John, listening to your tracks makes me realise I've got a long way to go, but boy, i'm i going to be happy when I get there.

Great stuff.

Steve, listening to your tracks your way ahead of me. Re: the mix, this is all MIDI (cept' Z's guitar) which means I get to record it as audio all in one shot with virtually no noise :-). Its much harder to do what you did with "Stars Look Down". Thats some real solid writing & playin. Not to mention production!

and tight. Off the bat, the mix sounds great. Very nice solo work all around! The musicianship jumps off the page, particlularly when the guitar kicks in. A nice blend of the lighter and darker sides of emotion here. And, of course, sick riffs.
