Description:
Written in 1996 and revised in 2004. (v1.1)
This version is based on the jazzy sound it had when I first put this track into GarageBand.
This song is about what it's like when something is preoccupying you, causing you lots of discomfiture and always sitting at the back of your mind, and this causes you to have a dream about it. Maybe in your dream everything goes wrong, or maybe it all goes better than expected. You experience emotions in reaction to what you believe has happened. Then when you wake up you realise it was a dream and you experience yet another emotional reaction to being wrenched back to reality. But is it good or bad? Are you glad or disappointed? What is real and what is the dream?
Hardware:
iBook 700MHz, in-built mic, M-Audio KeyStation 49e
Software:
GarageBand 1.1

Nice one &mdash 07/23/04 - 05:26:01 PM
I'm guessing you have a pile of Dylan records tucked away
somewhere, yeah? Lyrics are nice and quirky, backing
perhaps just a little bland, but maybe thats more the mix
than the actual sounds. Try experimenting with some Eq
on the drum sounds. Nice work. [ Reply to This ]
Bob Dylan &mdash 07/23/04 - 06:17:51 PM
Thanks for your comments, TonyT.
The wierd thing is that I don't have any Bob Dylan records at all.
The closest thing I've got is a version of Blowing in the Wind
performed by Marlene Dietrich.
Sorry about the production values. I guess this is just a demo of the song
really, and to be done properly it would have to have a live instrument or two.
I'll keep experimenting. [ Reply to This ]
Dylan/Deitrich? &mdash 07/23/04 - 10:23:01 PM
I guess that version of Blowin' in the Wind had some
influence. This is cool. reminds me of Leonard Cohen a
bit. Surprised that this has no live instruments, because it
sounds live enough. Lyrics are surely quirky, and good. A
good demo. [ Reply to This ]
Nice progression &mdash 07/24/04 - 07:59:23 AM
I'd like to see a stronger vocal performance and some
improved production to make the see the full potential of
this song come out. Turn up the bass a bit, vary the piano
a bit, sing with slightly more (conviction? you almost
sound like you're holding back), and this song will indeed
be a good demo. [ Reply to This ]
