Description:
Take a suspense-filled track by artist monoCream (http://www.icompositions.com/artists/monoCream) and add a few spoken parts , courtesy of biba_nova, and then add a 'childrens chorus' (Mystified)--and what do you have?

A very enjoyable collaboration!

When I first heard monoCream's track "Dungeons in the Secret Castle,' I knew I wanted to put a chorus to it. I also could hear some spoken parts added to the creaking-door sections in the original track....but where to get those?

Although I had recorded some of my own and used effects to alter them, biba_nova so happened to be on vacation in England and so happened to be surrounded by children willing to record some spoken bits!
So I sent over a script and he recorded the childrens voices, and then, very kindly integrated the chorus vox and spoken parts to the mp3 instrumental in Logic Pro from the GB2 file I provided.

Collaborations like these are so much fun because I get to pull from tracks like "Dungeons," which inspire me, and embellish away.

Thank you to monoCream for letting me add to this beautiful track, and to biba_nova for taking time out of his vacation to record and then to mix it all together so wonderfully (including rearranging some of the chorus vox), and last, but certainly not least, a huge 'thank you!' to the children who added their most excellent voices:

Ami Rose Dodd
Ben Corbett
Elizabeth Haywood

:)

Enjoy!

So many other comments will follow for sure. Probably deeper than mine. Just wanted to express my greatest respect for this brilliant piece of music. What a joy to my ears. This is a musical fairytale, a feathertale. To be read unfocused. Une petite dlicatesse...

It's in the book ........... &mdash 11/15/06 - 05:20:37 PM
Chills up my spine for sure. This reminds me of a story (and LP record) my parents got for me when I was very young - I can't remember the name of it now, but the catch phrase was "it's in the book". The chills come as much as a result of an association with that LP as the charming performance itself.
You've done something both different and magical here Mysti!

All the efforts really show here. Fantastic work, all of you! This is about as close to Danny Elfman as I've ever heard. Big, big kudos!

Ohhh! &mdash 11/18/06 - 06:22:13 PM
I love the children's voices! Nice touch. Did the children sing as well? This is as close to a complete story I've gotten from a song on here. I love it.

Children's voices &mdash 11/18/06 - 08:37:54 PM
The spoken parts are children (names listed in the song notes :)

The 'children's chorus' was actually me. I just used a very light, very breathy and airy tone with multiple tracks. But I had hoped it would sound like a real children's chorus.

Thanks for all the great comments here--this track was a great deal of fun to put together/adapt from the original instrumental. :)

Elfman yes, but also... &mdash 11/19/06 - 08:01:17 PM
a tinge of Loard of the Rings (Howard Shore). Love it.

posts in this genre acheive what this one does... as it flows over me, I can see the credits scrolling up the screen... all the vocal placements are perfect... distant and mysterious... the whole thing fill you with anticipation

Hey, Myst &mdash 11/28/06 - 09:09:25 AM
You make so much wonderful stuff, it's getting hard for me to keep up! This is no exception. Wonderful, wonderful piece. Brought visions of Chronicles of Narnia. Very enjoyable listen. Extremely lush soundscape. It never ceases to amaze me the utter realizm you are able to achieve with soft-instruments these days.

I still think you are the one who did the Battlestar Galactica theme :)

P.S. The reason I stopped by in the first place was because I noticed the new avitar on MY artist page. Niiiiiiiiice! :)

monoCream's scoring is excellent &mdash 12/21/06 - 10:29:15 AM
I like the juxtaposition of sweet voices (you sound early teenage yourself on this) and great background music, which is expertly scored. I can imagine you sneaking around, very cinematic. A wonderful collaboration. The clanging door is a very nice touch.

Wonderful Voice &mdash 12/26/06 - 03:12:11 PM
Your sweet, ethereal vocals truly kick this up a notch or two. The theme is nice, though familiar. I was about to drive myself nuts trying to remember what it reminded me of when it hit me--it's rather reminiscent of Jerry Goldsmith's theme to BASIC INSTINCT. Still, your vocals are a very nice, professional touch, Cat.:)
