Love the sitar inspired sounds Bill - fit perfectly with your strings, drums and Betsy. So, 'fess up, how did you do the sitar??
Another excellent post from one of the stars of MJ!
Cheers,
Neil

I think you mean the slide &mdash 11/20/06 - 11:27:53 PM
It never dawned on me to go after a sltar sound., but now that you mentioned it . . .:^)

I use a brass slide on my Santa Cruz Acoustic guitar. I employy a bunch of harmonics. I think you mean the brass slide, I guess with that mixed in with the reverb there is kind of a siter effect.

With the brass slide, I like to use it on the 4th and 3rd strings. It has a fatter sound. Especially on my smaller om/pw Santa Cruz. The strings are close to the fret, that is sign of a good guitar. But actually if I needed to go to the higher b and e strings I probably would of used the Takamine acoustic. I had the strings raised for the purpose for using the slide on the Takamine. On this tune I didn't need it, cause I stayed away from those strings.

Thanks jig for asking and the post.

variety of sounds &mdash 11/21/06 - 10:57:51 AM
This is one of your more ambitious tracks as far as a variety of sounds is concerned.

Your choice of sounds and the way you combine them is overall very good, although the drum track sometimes overshadows your excellent guitar playing a bit. Generally, I would have liked to hear the guitar more prominently in this mix.

For some reason today, as I listen to various people's tracks, I am noticing that there's a tendency to rush the solo instrument slightly ahead of the drum accompaniment. This is a very, very easy thing to do and I've done it many times myself. It's a natural tendency to push ahead, so we really need to watch that.

That being said, you've created a very pleasant mood with this piece and I enjoyed listening to it, as I do with all your submissions. Thanks for sharing this, Bill!

A lovely, soothing sound you've got going on here. The sitar-like sound is a particularly nice touch. Blends in really well with the sort of oceanic sound.

The only small problem I found in this (and it is a very small problem) was the drums. Firstly they didn't quite sync with the rest of the ensemble at times, but like Cameron mentioned it is quite common. Secondly, the beat itself became a bit repetitive. I realized that one is supposed to focus on the guitar, which I did, but I couldn't help noticing a certain lack of variety (being the drum enthusiast that I am).

But like I said, these are just minor smudges on an otherwise well polished piece of work.

I just love seeing the different sides of Bill... Another great piece and the percussion was a nice twist.

Soothing. It does sound like a romantic stroll right there by that sunset.
