Description:
This is an updated version of a song that I posted a few weeks ago. As I said then, this was my first GarageBand song, but it has changed quite a bit since the first posting. I'd like to thank Neil (jiguma) for all of his hard work on the bass line and mastering of this song. He is so helpful and talented. Enjoy!

Lyrics:
Same space in another world
Same trace of a lonely girl
Same feelings of too much pride
Same places of which to hide.

Looking through the months and years
We can find the tears
Memories look a homemade book
Remind us where not to look.

Fall into a distant plane
Through it there's a window pane
Shines diamonds in one's eyes
Glittering before good-byes.

We can't escape our shadow
Or bar a door that isn't ours
We can't force open empty hearts
Or sing a song that never was.

Same space in another world
Same trace of a lonely girl
Same feelings of too much pride
Same places of which to hide.

Hardware:
ibook, MAudio Duo, Condenser mic, Washburn guitar; jiguma's bass, computer, Logic Express and talent:)

Software:
Garage Band

Great collaboration! &mdash 11/21/06 - 08:35:30 AM
This was a great song to begin with. Now that you've gotten Jiguma's collaboration on bass and production it sounds even better. Nice work!

Jiguma is so talented and added a lot to this song. He plays with such sensitivity on the bass. I am glad that you enjoyed the song. Cheers, Laurie

TOLD YA, that jiguma.... &mdash 11/21/06 - 08:36:26 AM
...can play the bass, among that other raft of talents...

I really do hear a Pentangle-ish sound here, in the quality of your voice, and in that neat acoustic guitar figure you play. I like the guitar tone on the acoustic lead line...

I think you've done some great things with this.

Listening to this over headphones, I might still be inclined to tweak levels just a bit, make sure that wonderful explosion of drums, for instance, doesn't overpower the vocal line, because even with all the cool instrumental stuff happening, this song is MADE in the lyrical and vocal line...

Awfully good, though. Heading straight for the iPod.

A nice pairing of sensibilities here....

Ed

Thank you so much for recommending Neil and also for your very helpful and supportive comments. I will have another look at the drums and balance there. I would agree that the lyrics and vocal line should always be clearly heard. Cheers:) Laurie

sweet stuff &mdash 11/21/06 - 08:59:18 AM
This is a great sounding song, made even better with Jiguma's handiwork. The melody and singing are very nice... I'd have preferred the piano a little closer to center (headphone comment), but other than that, really nice mix of instruments... and did I say the singing is really nice? Great voice!

You're really nice to write a comment before your morning coffee while invisible. I am glad that you enjoyed the song. Jiguma's sweet playing adds a lot to the song. How would I made the piano closer to the center for the headphones? I am still learning everything. So interesting. Thanks again for the comments. Cheers, Laurie

Great song and performance &mdash 11/21/06 - 02:53:41 PM
Thought this was such a lovely little song when I first heard it, and I think you have lots of talent - it was really a pleasure to help out. One of the things I've benefitted from at MacJams has been the support of other players and writers and producers - it's nice to do the same for someone else. That drum explosion was the hard part of the mix for sure, as Ed mentioned, but it was also one of the highlights to me. This actually sounds better to me now than the last mix I sent - congratulations Laurie, excellent post!

Great &mdash 11/22/06 - 02:43:17 PM
What a great singing voice! The piano, bass, drums... all the music sounds very lovely, but I'm most taken by the vocals, which are very sweet on the ears. Very nice collaboration!

Thank you so much for your nice comments. I am glad that you like it. My poor voice has been hoarse for a few months now and I can't wait for it to return to record more vocals!

Great voice &mdash 11/23/06 - 12:04:54 AM
Wow, this is improved. Much fuller sound here. Like the way the drums kick in and changes the mood of the song, then gently slides back to a quieter mood. Love your voice.

Thank you so much for taking the time to listen and comment. I am very happy that you enjoyed the transition into the louder section, as many people felt that the middle section just didn't work on the first version. I alwasy heard it there... Take care and thanks again for your kindness.

Excellent &mdash 11/24/06 - 08:54:06 AM
I just listened to the previous version, I like this production better, especially bringing forward the piano part. You have an excellent singing voice, reminiscent of Carole King in spots (the piano part is probably playing tricks with my ears). I look forward to hearing more.

This was a very nice ... &mdash 11/26/06 - 01:00:04 AM
.. relaxed listen ... your voice comes across very pure and clean ... does that make sense? I have my own weird methodologies when it comes to describing someone's vocal style ... by pure and clean I mean it is crisp and clear and all the words are easily understood as they are enunciated well ... I think my own vocal style is somewhat more muddy ... I agree with the others .. having listened to the first version of this one ... this version is greately enhanced. Nice collab !

Nice Song &mdash 11/29/06 - 07:49:28 PM
You have a solid voice. It is very pleasant to listen too. This song adds to that trance sound your portraying with your voice. Neil's addition is a nice touch and he adds the same feel to the whole mood. Thanks for sharing. Nice job the two of you.

Spot on Vocal! &mdash 12/03/06 - 09:47:05 AM
You have that 'effortless' pro quality to your voice. Very relaxed and so so so sweet! I could listen to this all night.
Jiguma did a great job on bass but not so sure about the drum explosion and follow on. Sounded too busy for my ears anyway.
Onto my ipod it goes. Thanks.

Thank you for your comments. I really appreciate the encouragement, especially with regard to my voice. I'm learning new things all of the time with singing. It's good fun. The drums are still a bit busy, but I always envisioned them there. I appreciate your comments. Be well.
