Description:
This song is the meaning of life. it's just the way it is. I started this about two months ago and finally got back to it. the drum loops where not doing it for me, so once again i play drums via the keyboard.
Lyrics:
A Million Men
a million voices make there way to heaven
through all the pleas who is that listening
to hear the wishes and atone there sins
maybe the big man upstairs has gone fishing
dear god hear my call
dear god i want it all
chorus:
a million men look where they've been
a million men repeat there sins
a million men are giving in
a different world with realities
no one knows what his outcome will be
take on a wife baby makes three
at night dreams of eternity
dear god hear my call
dear god i want it all
chorus:
a million men look where they've been
a million men repeat there sins
a million men are giving in
dreams are played out around the world
who remembers the song about the girl
the million lives in a wink of the eye
every second there is hope
dear god hear my call
dear god i want it all
chorus:
a million men look where they've been
a million men repeat there sins
a million men are giving in

Awesome! &mdash 11/24/06 - 06:21:14 PM
Nice work here Vic! Love the lead guitar sound throughout. Lyrics are pensive and probing. Fabulous chorus! The "dreams..." section provides an interesting break from the main body of the tune. Nicely executed. The human condition...entropy (free plug! LOL!).

guess how many times i tweeked it? &mdash 11/24/06 - 10:11:09 PM
inside joke! i originally had some belted out vocals, but i though it should be more like a a talk to god rather then yelling. otherwise i might get a lighting bolt through my head. and that could really hurt!
Thanks bro!

I always like to... &mdash 11/24/06 - 07:33:54 PM
relate an MJ song, if I can, to something from the past. Shades of G. Harrison, especially the beginning (the verses). It then catches somethng with more of an edge...
Really good song. Damn good. [ Reply to This ]
now that you mention that... &mdash 11/24/06 - 10:18:56 PM
the harrison does make some since. after all who do you think taught me to play guitar. back then there were no tabs. you had to play along with the albums. so since you mention it, there is the first two chords that g.h. used quite a bit, and he did do quite a few questioning of mans place in the world, (but here i sum it up as - no matter where you go... there you are) plus there is a short slide guitar piece in there, which he is the master on. Thanks for making me remember a good thing! [ Reply to This ]
Ahhh...the late and great &mdash 11/26/06 - 09:25:32 PM
...George Harrison! Far and away my favorite Beatle and the one who first taught me to look past Western man's "flat-universe" materialism to reality of the creator God. May he rest in peace. [ Reply to This ]

Hey! Who didn't? &mdash 11/29/06 - 03:00:22 PM
That does it then...I'm adding some Harrison-esque slide leads to my next tune! Thanks for the idea... [ Reply to This ]
Nice Mix! &mdash 11/24/06 - 09:51:45 PM
Really nice mix. You have a really original sound except the instruments remind me of someone and I can't put my finger on it. Very cool with all the guitar work and all. Thanks for sharing. Top notch stuff.

thanks john &mdash 11/24/06 - 10:30:54 PM
could be the guitar tone is kind of a mick ronson sound i tend to use most of the time on leads, a marshall stack emulation with a crunch distortion and a high pass filter that gives it a bit of a wah filter effect. thanks for the kind words, truly appreciated!

Unusual choices here &mdash 11/24/06 - 10:22:19 PM
Your mix and the treatment of the various elements are most unconventional...but it does work in an odd way.
I like your guitar sound a lot. Who does it remind me of? [ Reply to This ]
we both know unconventional &mdash 11/24/06 - 10:40:47 PM
when i get the basics going on a tune most of it becomes subconscience. i tend to like little twists of fate to keep myself from being to predictable or boring myself. see above for guitar tone. i think, but then again i learned many guitar styles and tones over the years different influences always pop up along the way. thanks again fro the listen and comment!

You've got a sound! &mdash 11/26/06 - 12:49:43 PM
You've got a guitar sound, and you've got a vocal sound...
I like the lyrics and melody and the power pop rocking... Love the drop back at 'dreams are played out'....
Only suggestion would be some further tweaking with the mix such that the lyrics would come through if I was listening to this in a car and didn't have a lyric sheet in front of me... I don't think I'd 'get it' without the help that I have here with the screen in front of me and good speakers by my ears...
I always look forward to the stuff you post, Vic....

i agree i need to develop better diction. i am a kind of johnny-come-lately in the vocal department. your feed back and comments are, as always, highly regarded. as i'm always learning how to improve (even though this is not a paying gig) i am having fun in the total creation process.

Very cool Vic &mdash 11/27/06 - 10:13:44 PM
you really manage to capture a unified field of sound that serves your excellent writing and singing. I'm a real sucker for your brand of psychpoprock. Once before I mentioned Nick Lowe - one of the masters - but you have your own thing going on - no comparisons. Great work! [ Reply to This ]
psychpoprock! &mdash 11/27/06 - 11:17:53 PM
i like that. well another one for the gendre list. i learn bits and pieces from what i hear, mix it up, spit it out, see what sticks. unfortunately i also have to clean up the mess. Thanks as always for the kind words.

Reminds me of The Byrds (circa 5D). Wish I could play a lead like you! Great work...keep it up! [ Reply to This ]
and to think .... &mdash 11/29/06 - 10:32:52 PM
i don't have a leather fringed jacket. guitar i learned by playing along albums in my formative years. no tabs then. practice and learn by ear i think helped me. thanks for the kind words.

when god was handing out brains i was behind the door. nuts and bolts was all they had left. i've been getting tired of hacking drum loops to make them fit so i have been taking matters into my fingers. thanks for the good words. [ Reply to This ]
hey &mdash 12/02/06 - 05:32:43 PM
Vic, Nice tune. I'm new to the site and I was recommended by "bud" to give you a listen. Glad I did! We have a lot in common. I only have 4 songs up, but many more to be uploaded. I like the keyboard drums. I use a Boss DR-880, and love the patterns & tone but find it limiting for fills, etc. I haven't had the patience to program drums using the keys, but you have inspired me. Looking forward to listening to more of your stuff.
