Final Curtain

Description
This is the sixth song in Day For Night's CD "Hollywood Cinema."

Kudos to you, Steve, for the amazing work you do in creating these instrumental tracks, 'weeding' the various vocals I send over, and doing the final mixes.

These collaborations are a pleasure! :)

We hope you all enjoy these songs as much as we're enjoying creating the music!

Lyrics
He is stumbling in the street
looking for a some crooked dimes
and a heart he can connect too
in these hard lonely times.

She is daydreaming
in front of that big screen all day
when's she gonna learn
that make believe don't pay?

Well this the Final Curtain
For you and me
Nothing ever seemed so certain
and it don't come free

Well he doesn't understand her
they way he did before
we are looking for escape
but is through the same exit door?

She told herself she would make it
and she don't need to hear this doubt
from a two bit petty thief
with nothing to shout about

Well this is the final curtain
for you and me
No applause, no encore
is strictly necessary.

Another failed audition
another bouncing check
another violent landlord
another loaded card deck...

When the gasoline runs empty
what they gonna do?
when the day turns into night
what they gonna turn to?

and Opening Night
for both of you very soon, I guess. Great song, very well sung and good swing. But something doesn't work for me in the production, something that doesn't fit with the spirit of it and the great "crooner" voice as well. Sounds to much like a gentle folk-pop-rock thing, while I think it should sound bigger. Needs more drama and lush, I guess. Well, kinda hard to explain, I hope you going to understand what I'm trying to say. Anyway, great job, if I didn't think so I will not take the time to drop this comment.

some suggestions
Another lovely song, well sung and with good lyrics, but I think Youra has a point on the production - it seems to reach potential in the refrain ("she told herself ......"). Maybe adding an acoustic would have given more depth? I'm also having trouble hearing the bass, and the drums could maybe a bit more "up". I sometimes move the drum track a milisecond or 2 to the left to drag a song rather than have them pushing it - did that make sense? This might really benefit from a remix, adding acoustic and lifting the bass and drums, or alternatively dropping the Strat and the vox back.

Interesting point
you made, jiguma. I've been a promo editor for a while and noticed that when the singer is slipped a tad on the left (in advance, in film editing) for 1 frame (1/25 second) it gives this exact feeling, draging the song instead of pushing it, which gives a kind of boost. Same when I play guitar. I noticed I was really "in" when the stroke was a bit (as you mentionned, 1 or 2 ms) in advance. I was unsure if it was complety subjective or not. Obviously, it is not.

A great song
Hearing your voices makes me in such a nice mood .. could listen to you two for hours and hours.

This is a very beauiful and great song which, as mentioned above, will benefit from better production .. guitar in tune etc ..

Glad you keep going!

Interesting piece.
I like your voices together. You've received some points on production that I won't even touch, but I like the lyrics, tune and delivery. You two do a great collaboration!

Cheers for the comments everyone!
This collab with Cat has been really fun and rewarding! I have to say that I actually do like the production on this one the way it is...I think it has a kind of live feel to it (in common with the other DFN tracks)
Anyway cheers for listening in
