Description
MERRY CHRISTMAS

This is an instrumental arrangement of one of my favorite Christmas carols, but one that few seem to know. I fell in love with the melody as a kid when I heard Joan Baez sing it.

Man Thomas
your guitar sounds beautiful... you are getting this sound with behringer mikes??... I have a close friend who manages a music store chain... and he says "friends don't let friends buy behringer" I'm inclined to think he is mistaken... your playing is exellent also... a very solid performance and recording... any reason you didn't post under acoustic?

this shines

Thanks!
Yes, Behringer mics. Little C2 condenser pair I just bought for $49.95. I don't know how long they'll last, but the sound is great for guitar (better than the CAD e100 I had been using, and even better than the Neumann KMi-83 I have. I was very pleasantly surprised.

I still wish I had YOUR setup that you used on Wayfarer, though. THAT's a guitar sound!

As for why . . .
. . . I didn't post under acoustic, who knows? I puzzled over where to put it myself. "Holiday" seemed accurate, but a guarantee to relegate it to a too-narrow niche. Carols are folk music, and the orchestration is synthesized, so not strictly acoustic.

Sometimes I dislike the genre thing

I think the orchestration
is also very strong... it doesn't over power the song, but provides a nice bed for the guitars to lay on... I would consider removing the wood block percusion though.. just a minor nit... i think it would allow this to breath a bit more

Beautiful Arrangement
I like this arrangement. I am not familiar with the carol but it has a nice melody. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks!
It's not a very well known carol. I've downloaded wo nice ( and very different) arrangements from iTunes: the one by Joan Baez, and another by the Von Trapp Children (great-grandchildren of the original "Sound of Music" Von Trapps). Joan sings two verses, The Von Trapps an entirely different three verses to the same tune.

Very nice
Really nice guitars. Very festive sounding. The guitars are spot on and the cymbal adds the chill of winter. Thanks for sharing. I have never heard this piece.

What Nice Changes
New to Me.

A Carol I haven't heard before. A Treasure.

Thought I was well schooled in Ms. Joan's work, but not this one.

Guitar is present and crisp. Delightful.

Very Best

Cooper

Thanks!
Joan did a Christmas album titled "Noel." It is available on iTunes, and is my all-time favorite Christmas album. She has a few songs there that are not the well-known carols that everyone else does.

ALRIGHT!
How Kind of You.

I look forward to it, already (for Christmas, perhaps).

Fond Regards,

Cooper

Good arrangement
This is the second track by you that I've listened to, and I'm impressed. Your music is in essence fairly simple, but you come up with surprisingly sophisticated arrangements. The use of that triangle, as well as the soft recorders (?), are unexpected but they work very well.

Nice pickin', too.

Thanks!
I appreciate the encouragement. This is a carol I've wanted to do for a while. Have you listened to the vocal version?

I thought I'd commented before,
but i see i haven't. This is nice. relaxing and meditative. It is indeed for more than the Christmas season. Small, teensy nit - The cymbal roll was a bit too everpresent for my own taste. But the string bed was really nice and tasteful - just the right fill for the guitar melody to float over.

You had commented.
But it was on the version with vocals. I'm glad you liked this one too! Thanks for the encouragement.

Sweet Sound Thomas!
You did an excellent job of recording an excellent arrangement. I'll have to download for next Christmas for sure. Nice work with the two guitar lines and the triangle/percusion.
