Description:
The first of what I hope to be many collabs between myself and my amazingly talented sisters. This one comes from Breanna, age 14. Her words and lead vocals, my music and back up vox. Lots of mixing and instrumentation help from my dad, Jim O. Hope you guys like it.
Lyrics:
It was so obvious it was hidden
Behind his blind actions on his forehead it was written.
How hard he tried, he must've been smitten with the girl.
That girl, one girl.
She knows nothing
About something
As she stares at one thing...
It's a crush, crash
And if its here its here to stay
Crush, crash
And if its gone its far away
Crush, crash
Yeah its comin', comin' fast
Never gonna last.
She waited and she
she must've thought he didn't care
As an awkward silence
hung in the air
And his eyes drifted down
to her sneaker pair
Of that girl
One girl
She knows nothing
About something
As he stares at one thing...
It's a crush, crash
And if its here its here to stay
Crush, crash
Ordinary daydream
A crush, crash
Yeah its comin' comin' fast
Never gonna last
Crash into a young boys mind
Crush a young boys heart
She'll grow older and forget what he said
But her pretty picture will be
Painted, in, his head...
Its a crush, crash
and if its here its here to stay
Crush, crash
and if its gone its far away
Crush, crash
Yeah its comin, comin fast
Never gonna last
(Repeat)

brilliant &mdash 11/26/06 - 04:00:26 PM
To my ears, this is a song with real hit potential. An easy listening but very pleasing melody and stunning harmonies. A brilliant demo (I'm using this word because the mix & production could certainly evolve) which is more than worth remixing in a pro studio environment. Splendid work guys...

You guys are a talented family. What those late evenings when you gather around some instruments must be like:)
You both do great on the vocals here. And the composition doesn't stand back either. Great performance on the instruments and good work in the mixing department.
Impressive! [ Reply to This ]

Thanks Thoddi!
And I'm definitely in on the new Christmas song. It sounds great, and I wouldn't miss it for the world. I'll see if i can convince my sister to jump in too...

I dig the triplet pulse in the guitar; that really sets the feel, and the vocals fit right in. Really cool all around. [ Reply to This ]

family thing &mdash 11/28/06 - 08:52:49 PM
wow, what a fantastic track. The vocal content in your family is surreal. rich, complex, delicious harmonies. Not just the structure but your innovative approach rythymically. Just friggin great stuff. [ Reply to This ]
Great stuff! &mdash 12/01/06 - 06:56:39 AM
This is excellent, dudes! All of ya. Great arrangement; lots of interest in the various layers. Loved the harmonies.
I have to say, there is a quality about Breanna's voice: such a cool style, beyond her years. Only once in a while I come across a female voice that sounds really unique. This is one of those moments. I look forward to much more.
Well done. [ Reply to This ]

Nice song. &mdash 12/01/06 - 11:18:40 AM
I'm a sucker for harmony, and there's some fabulous harmonies here... nicely weaved together. This could be a hit if produced properly.
My only nitpicks are production based. The vox and acoustic guitar sound a bit boxy and could use some air and space... but please don't take this as a harsh criticism... this site's all about making all of our music better.
Wish the other members in my family were the least bit musical!
Great job.

Agreed &mdash 12/01/06 - 11:23:20 AM
No sweat on the critique man. I agree that's what this is all about. And I also am down with the diea that the guitar sounds kind of distant. Any suggestions on how to improve that? I'm basically recording guitar w/ the pinhole mic on my powerbook. I imagine that may be the biggest problem...But thanks for listening, for sure.

Norah Jones vibe &mdash 12/01/06 - 12:03:41 PM
I dig the easy hip groove, the Norah Jones vibe on the fine female vocal performance, the teenage lyrics made urgent and earnest in all the right pop rock ways, and the very nice vocal duet arrangement. To add to Darren's nitpicking (above), I'll echo his feeling about the EQing: The rhythm guitar seems too bright while the the vocals are too boxy and flat. The lead guitar leaps thru a bit and may need compression and less volume. I dig the bass playing and wouldn't mind it boosted, and EQd brighter. Also, I think the track could benefit from a drum track the drove it forward, added variations and better fills, something that adds energy, specifically to the last half of the track; but no flange. Solid writing, excellent arranging ideas, and passionate performances. [ Reply to This ]
