Description:
Rebecca, a friend and talented artist/ musician wrote this upon hearing "Legionnaire's Promise" I think it captures in words so powerfully what I tried to do in my music.

The large gate of the fort opens, letting the sun brighten the sands of the entry as he returns through the same gate that a year ago he rode out of with only a prayer of hope for success in his mission. News of his triumph far away, reached back to the fort almost over night. Wondrous tales spread exaggerated almost as fast. That was a month ago.Today, everyone is joyous and amazed that he is riding in through the gate as he promised he would.

Well okay then! &mdash 12/01/06 - 07:58:22 PM
I've got you in my 'favorites' list, so I'm supposed to be get an auto-generated E-mail every time you submit something, but I haven't been getting any such E-mails for months. The point of which, I guess, is sorry I didn't catch this submission right away!

First reaction is that it grabs you right away; it's very powerful. Definitely feels like it could go right into a film scene. Is that an accordion as your main melody instrument? I'm listening through laptop speakers, so it could be the string section of the LA Philharmonic and I'd probably miss it.

Anyway, if it is an accordion, that's an interesting choice; I like it.

Another very fine work!

Thanks Clark &mdash 12/02/06 - 01:31:27 PM
It was in fact an accordion. One of the voices of my Yamaha. It's funny how just hearing a particular sound can point you in certain directions. At least that's how it is with me. I'm honored to be on that list of yours. You certainly are on mine. I don't think you’ve graced us with a piece of yours in quite a while. Hope that changes soon.

Originally I placed this in the cinema genre - was there for several days with no comments. So while I agree that this is more film like I'm glad I brought it here and that you caught it. Thanks again,
Take Care,
Charles/Bowman

Thank you so much Feter. &mdash 12/02/06 - 01:38:24 PM
I think there is an ethnic feel to this piece and a strong primal quality to it that I like. I'm very happy you did as well. I will one day I'll redo this in garageband and the trombones would be a very cool thing to try. Thanks for the suggestion and the really kind words Feter and always I'm enjoying hearing your wonderful music as well.
Take Care,
Charles/Bowman

Not Sure Of The Meaning Of The Title &mdash 12/02/06 - 04:21:58 PM
Is it me? The music grabs you and does not let go, that I like but the title baffles me. Sorry if that sounds a negative comment but Legionaires smacks of air conditioning!!! DOH! I think I'm trying to say I like the music but can't get to grips with the title, ...bugger English upbringing, "doesn't have a proper title therefore can't be right, must be a bloody fundamentalist or something, don't know what your great uncle Arthur would say, probaly something like bloody commie or something, what? what?

Air Conditioning? &mdash 12/03/06 - 02:16:09 AM
Steve you're making me laugh. Stop it. Air Conditioning? I guess this is a case of "Cultural Conditioning".

Wait I’m finally getting it you mean Legionnaires Decease. Never occurred to me. What I was thinking about was something closer to the French Foreign Legion. Your confusion reminded me that a friend had written after hearing this. It really captured what I was after.
Here it is:
The large gate of the fort opens, letting the sun brighten the sands of the entry as he returns through the same gate that a year ago he rode out of with only a prayer of hope for success in his mission. News of his triumph far away, reached back to the fort almost over night. Wondrous tales spread exaggerated almost as fast. That was a month ago.Today, everyone is joyous and amazed that he is riding in through the gate as he promised he would.

I think that's pretty cool. In fact I'm putting it up here in the description to help what may be "Legions" of perplexed listeners.
Steve, I am in your debt.
Glad to hear from you and very happy that you liked it,
Charles/Bowman

All is well and will be well &mdash 12/04/06 - 03:59:57 PM
Never could be a lateral thinker. Got it. Okay apologies for making you laugh. As a complete twonk can you give me a clue next time? Seriously, I completely missed the point didn't I? I still am enamoured by this tune. So I hope I am forgiven for being a little....... English!!

Go in peace and have fun

Steve

Hi Bow &mdash 12/13/06 - 01:26:59 AM
Nice melody. Steveg's comments were funny though....he is right about legionnaire's disease and air conditioners, water heaters etc. No matter, the melody reminds me more of a middle eastern setting in a bedouin's tent though. Thank you for sharing your great music with us.
