Description:
Reason has moons, but moons not hers, Lie mirror'd on her sea,
Confounding her astronomers, But O! delighting me.
~Ralph Hodgeson
This is the first of a few tracks looking outside the door of reason.
Recorded 11-07-06 (first take)
Lyrics:
Cold Outside – (not exactly sure?)
My mama said
‘Going to cut the sunlight’
My mama said
All night long you’ll go
Outside it’s dark but I’m cold
in warmth of black clothed hides
she knows how to make me warm
But incites these violent nights
Outside makes me cold and I fall
She wanted to go home
I wanted more than you’ll ever know
But by myself I can do nothing more
By myself - home –
By myself I can’t go all the time
But you make it right – I’ll take it my way
I wanted to get this - ~~**~~
No I won’t - so don’t ask anymore
Outside make my water boil
I don’t know I don’t know
I can’t hold on to
Don’t you know the outsides cold!
I know it’s raw
I know it’s for…

This is impressive, dramatic and clever. You've really made a powerful song here and performed it brilliantly. It builds up so effectively towards the end and the production is impeccable. Excellent work! [ Reply to This ]

Thanks Rebsie! It kind of feels like we only caught a glimpse of a song – but it performed us brilliantly…we're always up for the ride… [ Reply to This ]
Great Song &mdash 11/28/06 - 03:09:59 PM
Very good track. I listened to the whole thing and enjoyed it all. Sounds heavily influenced by U2. [ Reply to This ]

This is great. The best I've heard Jared too. Great bass intro, though production wise, it's slightly awkward transition to the song. I love that wavery weird voice you hit towards the end. Amazing that this is all one take. This sounds like the most polished song you've come out with. Good transitions. Great variation in the drums. Lots of pulls and pushes. Yup, This one is ready and in the bag. [ Reply to This ]

Polished, no! This was another out-of-the-blue one-off-er. You’re right about the starting transition - I tweaked that by removing an equally awkward second or two of silence before the bass/drums kicked in and replaced it with a reverse echo of the first bass beat...whatever works...
Thanks Kris... [ Reply to This ]

You’re right they do resonate…must be channeling the early 80s…(always so behind)
though I’m not sure we can pull off the 5/4 beat…
...here's to tryin'...

Glad to be heard here at MJ – otherwise it’s just 4 walls blocking us from the sad sight of neighbors furrowing their brow and waving their tired fists…so very sad... [ Reply to This ]

"Real" good &mdash 12/01/06 - 06:44:19 AM
It's so cool to hear a song recorded with only real live instruments, on MacJams.
And they're all played with so much energy. As is the voice.
Very nice track. [ Reply to This ]
yeah boy! &mdash 12/01/06 - 09:55:11 AM
Your best tune yet. Way to rock! Sting meets U2 meets Spirit of the West. Cold outside....perhaps...but warm, VERY warm inside where you guys are playing! Fab vox and crisp, hard-edged guitar work. Love it!
Be well! [ Reply to This ]
