From Mystified:

Biba_nova is being too modest...I added vocals to this, but he truly has made this song a wonder :)

To watch this song come about from beginning to end has been quite amazing from my standpoint.
Not only for the technical skill in which he creates these tracks, but the openness to new ideas, approaches and creativity.

Thank you, Bryn, for including me in this song. I'm honored :)

(And those vocals of yours....fabulous!)

I remember this tune from way back in the day....nice to hear it redone in such a lush, romantic manner. You two make a great team!

Thank you Steve &mdash 11/30/06 - 11:16:36 AM
This was one of my favourite songs that we used to do. I have always loved playing this on the guitar. I haven't even got a copy of the original (scratchy cassette tape demo), but it is one of those songs that embedded itself in my brain and has stayed there for all these years.

It was a pleasure resurrecting this song from the Dave and Bryn archives and I believe that David is thrilled to hear it too. Most of all, it was a great pleasure to work with Cat, whose vocal performances, ideas and encouragement kept me going through the process...

awesome &mdash 11/29/06 - 02:33:35 AM
Go To Sleep... almost approaches an Enya texture, but distinctive in its own way. Dreamy, retro and futurist. Bravo.

Masterful &mdash 11/29/06 - 05:44:07 AM
What beautiful musical textures ... really lovely. And the vocal makes for a magical accompaniment. The soft voices are contrasted brilliantly with the sharper guitar and piano notes to create a powerful and mesmerising effect. Lovely melodies drifting in and out ... it's just beautiful.

I love it. Much respect to you both (and to the writer).

This reminds me of the band Low. If you haven't heard them, you should check them out.

I totally understand you 'Low' reference. I remember seeing them play live in the UK a few years ago. They are indeed a great band.

Love the acoustic guitar 1/2 way &mdash 11/30/06 - 01:18:45 AM
The total concept ,harmonies, playing, arrangment, all so prity...again I love the acoustic at the end...so moody blues late 60's.

beautiful &mdash 11/30/06 - 08:35:58 AM
certainly mysti's voice, but the backing tracks are so damn skillfully arranged. its simply dances on the temporal lobe. the big break threw me a bit at first, but then any effective lullaby has to have one.

hypnotic &mdash 11/30/06 - 10:24:33 AM
I didn't hear the original but this song and performance is first-rate.

The pace is lilting and hypnotic with the repeated deliberate guitar figure, and the excellent harmonies float over all. The combination of voices is particularly fine.

The addition of the clarinet was imaginative and I would have liked to hear more of that! ;-)

Thank you Cameron &mdash 11/30/06 - 11:25:02 AM
I take your point on the clarinet. Originally it was featured more in the song, but in my original reference mixes, I felt that tonally it was clashing with the vocals to much. So...with a heavy heart, I had to get my digital scissors out and do some draconian snipping. The most important thing I wanted to achieve and maintain (beyond the inherent beauty of the song itself) was a sense of space and atmosphere.....

:-)

With my . . . &mdash 11/30/06 - 02:16:59 PM
insomnia, I truly love that title. Got up an 4am reading, reading and more reading. . .

But I realize that sleeping pills are bogus in many cases. So great to hear a tune on "Go To Sleep".

It has that soft touch that is good therapy not only for babies but adults to.

Nice tune, sweet too. Like that soft ending . . . ya!

Sublime &mdash 11/30/06 - 08:17:07 PM
Absolutely sublime - one of the best things I've heard on MJ. Very delicate and subtle playing and production, full of rich and intriguing textures and just beautifully understated - in fact just beautiful.

I'm going to stop writing and just listen over and over again...

Shades of the Beach Boys! I'd probably like a more trebly mix, but beautiful sounds all 'round. Lush is the word!

Nice mix of instruments &mdash 12/04/06 - 07:51:33 PM
They are like a blanket of sound. The vocals are also very dreamy. One minor tech crit - The opening bass drowns out everything else on the first section on both my powerbook and iMac speakers. (Not that those are the gold standard, mind you.) The 'subconscious level' of the guitar interlude and ending is a really neat idea. It's like you're actually drifting off as the music plays.
