A great tune &mdash 12/04/06 - 12:13:23 PM
Nicely put together with great pacing and production. The GB drums just don't do this justice, but otherwise very nice.

Thanks! &mdash 12/04/06 - 12:26:11 PM
I wholeheartedly agree with you, I really would like a nicer-sounding drum kit with this. As you suggested in the chat, the second jam pack should help.

Thanks for the listen!

Sweet piece... &mdash 12/04/06 - 12:21:10 PM
There's a bit of "gratuitous" and repetitive percussion (e.g. the constantly-hit triangle by the second half almost begins to sound like a watch-alarm going off) and the drum loops you created are good, but need a teensy bit more change-up here and there. Maybe lowering the drums slightly might help boost the cool riffs? I really like the smooth jazzy melody and harmonies, the music itself is very nice. The portamento on the "electric guitar" made it sound quite good. This reminds me a bit of a smooth-jazz band years ago in Japan called "Kaze" (The Wind.) Nice nice stuff! Look forward to more, and welcome to Macjams!

I agree with you completely. The watch alarm sound had been brought to my attention before, and I'll definetly be addressing it. Perhaps simply lowering the volume?

As I responded above, I'm not crazy about the drums, but was limited to the standard GB kits. When I get a nicer sounding jam pack to play with, you'll definetly be hearing more variety there.

Thanks for the review!!

This is great &mdash 12/04/06 - 12:38:16 PM
I love this song. I wouldnt mind trying to add drums to it. But the song stands very nicely on its own. Faved.

Welcome to MJs Drew ! &mdash 12/04/06 - 04:20:29 PM
Listening to your tune now on my headphones @ home I think there is too much panning at the start (thought I didn't plug in right ;)).
The sounds are very nice but a little crowded (IMHO).
The drums come in loud and seem to disappear under the lead synth (that is even louder).
All this doesn't mean I don't like your song :)

Hmm... &mdash 12/04/06 - 06:23:37 PM
hmm... the EP and rythym piano are slightly panned right and left, but the panpots stay put throughout the entire song. I agree with you that the mixing isn't quite there, but that to me seems to be the hardest part and something I'll probably pick up along the way. Thanks for your input!

Wow, that's a great review. :-) I'm glad you like the pitch bends, they took a good bit of work to make sound realistic. Thanks for your thoughts!

Well Done &mdash 12/04/06 - 08:12:55 PM
All the loops work nicely together. The leads are really hot and have a great buid up. I really liked how you ended the song abruptly like that.
Keep Jammin!

Wow, thank you! I appreciate your thoughts... I want to play around with how I can start with almost nothing and make it become something, I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.

Thanks a bunch!

Groovy &mdash 12/04/06 - 10:37:36 PM
Some great playing in there dude. I like the progression of the track too. It'd be cool to hear some funky guitars come in somewhere and rock it out. Well done. Welcome to MacJams.

I agree, there could be a little more support on the melody, all I could really think of was adding a few EP riffs here and there.

Thanks for the listen!

Nice job... &mdash 12/05/06 - 01:33:20 AM
The only thing I would suggest is giving it a bit more room. By that I mean that it seems at times there is so much going on, electric piano, piano, organ, synth pad, etc. When you break it down towards the middle to just drums, piano and bass, that's when it really hit it for me. When there are fewer instruments to listen to, it's easier to take them all in. But the truth is that it's a great track. I've enjoyed it and the drums only bothered me at the very beginning, the intro fill sounded too computery. But that is a very easy thing to fix. Congratulations on your first GB and MJ track, it is a killer debut!!! I look forward to hearing more from you.

A large part of my musical influence comes from groups who are absolute masters at blending different instruments together to produce a canvas of perfectly harmonized sound, like a painter's colors. This is something I'm trying to develop as well, sometimes I'm less successfull. There's definetly room to improve, I agree. As far as the drum kits, I'm in full agreement with you. They need to be worked on, and I'd like to use a different kit with it altogether.

Thanks for your feedback!

Fantastic &mdash 12/05/06 - 10:59:23 AM
I'm really blown away. Your composition skills are excellent. Great layerng of sounds. A truly great tune.

I'm one of the few people I know here who doesn't mind the sound of GB instruments - I'm drawn to the musicality, not the authenticity of the sounds. You did amazing work with the GB stock library.

Thanks for that.

Thanks, I couldn't have asked for a better reaction. :) I'm really working to try to layer things as best I can, so it's great to hear that it worked for you.

Thanks for listening!

I thought I'd outgrown Garageband. However, I'm starting to see that though it may do less overall, what it DOES do, it does very well.

Thanks for the compliments!

great composition &mdash 12/06/06 - 08:39:05 AM
This soundz really nice. Very well played and mounted!! The drums are not so good but aren't bad at all... The piano playing is very tight... Try to add some female voice and you'll have a great stuff for the people... :)

I agree &mdash 12/06/06 - 08:42:15 AM
Yep, I agree that the drums need work. As I've said to others, I'm not really happy with the kits that come standard with GB, but I had to use something.

I'd love to toy around with the idea of lyrics/vocals, I hadn't really thought of it before...

Smooth, indeed &mdash 12/06/06 - 11:30:47 PM
This is a well produced track for a first post. I agree that the percussion needs some diversity, though it works in this tune. However, the melodies are really well played for this genre. Good flow, hypnotic.

welcome,
-g

Outside of my usual musical dimension but i enjoyed listening to it. You obviously slaved tirelessly over some of the loops and drums, sounds very clean - reminds me of a track from a 70s movie --- ya know, someone just landed in a new town looking around montage :)
