Description:
You should all, by now, be familiar with the existence of Saturnine in one form or another. This is a remix of a remix. I heard The Composers Dirty Jazz version of Saturnine and loved it but I was always simultaneously creating an alternate version in my head as I listened to it.

This is that version from my head, or at least as close as I can get to it anyway. So, what did I do? The percussion is gone and replaced with some loops and SFX. The Piano is edited down slightly and the bass tidied up - made more conventional to help fit the loops and vocal melody. I've added some seriously effected strings also - just to give it that floaty spaced feel.

I hope you enjoy it. This version is not intended as an improvedment on what The Composer did, it's just a version grabbed from an alternate universe.

Be cool,

Pie

Lyrics:
An empty book
filled with photographs of you
on the Great Wall of China
Brooklyn, 1992

Can't take back now what you've left behind.

We all fall
We all fall
We all fall

You're pulling faces now
every feature in a frown
It's our wedding day
and you said you didn't like my gown

Can't give you now what I've left behind.

We all fall
we all fall
(and I'm not to blame)

Every photo fades,
the ink it drains away,
and in my empty book,
the pages start to fray.

We all fall...

Beatiful and very different &mdash 12/03/06 - 08:55:05 PM
than the other versions. And on top of that it even wound up in a different place than I thought it was going when it started. Karmatoburn is right, it is a majorly clean mix. I love the space.

Thanks for the clean comments - that's exactly what I was aiming for. I wanted to capture a sense of solitude. Thanks for commenting.

Saturnine is becomming a monster! &mdash 12/04/06 - 09:43:40 AM
Hehe... although one of my tunes is yet to be remixed... very interesting to hear one of my remixes remixed.

Really like how the strings worked with the bass lines... gave them a very nice and different feel. Also really liked the chatterbox like effects in the background... and the sudden shift to the background at the end of the piece. The mix sorta moves between being similar to my rougher sounding mix (when the piano glisses downwards), to something spacious and somewhat surgical.

Loved hearing it Pie, thanks for being interested in my mix to begin with and then thanks to Illuminati and Lisa for giving me the inspiration to remix some music that presented you with some inspiration to remix some music with. I think....

(The original remix, just in case people didn't know where to find it:)

Hmm &mdash 12/04/06 - 03:44:47 PM
The people who have rated you lower on production must be rating you down for my performance, because that production is crystal clear and you truly captured the feeling and mood of the lyrics with it. Lonliness, emptiness, lack of things to fill space. I love the effected strings, they sound like trumpetviolins, very mournful.

I love this, you know that. I want to say thank you so much not only for remixing this, but for all the emotional support you've given to The Orbiting. Thanks, Pie.

OOMPA OOMPA &mdash 12/04/06 - 03:50:26 PM
Actually the opening motif is made from stings and trombone - so not far off with the trumpets :-)

You make everything from Sting's. ;-)

Sublime... &mdash 12/04/06 - 03:48:28 PM
The clarity is incredible... Both the vocals and the instruments. Very interesting choice of percussion, and the reverb on the piano is really artistic. Faved.

Great Tune &mdash 12/04/06 - 06:18:36 PM
Ineresting sound between the vocals and the background work. It holds together really well. Kee up the good work!

A whole bunch of Saturnines &mdash 12/14/06 - 12:30:27 PM
This one is really great. Don't really see why anyone would give this 4s and 5s...
The production is top notch and everything sounds very cool.
Nicely done!

Well... &mdash 12/28/06 - 02:51:07 PM
I wish that I were listening to this on something other than the eraser sized computer speaker, at this hotel work room, but I'm not. From what I can hear, it does sound like solid piece of the pie has been brilliantly dished out here - I should prolly go back and listen to the composer's bit, and as well, I should listen to the original too, but on my system.

For now, I can say that this really sounds like quite a bit of focused and experienced work went into it. To compliment such a beautiful work of art is quite the feat, and it sounds as if you've accomplished this.

Everything just feels, right... Nice job mister Pie. If I remember to listen on my system when I get home, I'll try to be more detailed w/ my response -

Thanks for sharing - D
