Description:
A song thats been burning at the back of mind for some time now. Glad I managed to get some closure on it as it took 3 months of on and off composing and re-recording stuff until this.

Its about when we leave school that we quickly find out that our learning is not over and in fact it has just started in many respects. We find ourselves in the teacher and student role and the world is one big classroom. The name; 'The Streets are Halls' is from the idea that streets are like hallways in a school. Lyrics to be posted soon but I hope you can make them out. Thanks for checking this tune. Critique, as always, is always welcome! Much appreciated! Gav

Good tune &mdash 12/04/06 - 04:36:38 AM
Beautiful melody with a nice instrumentation, very good vocals and guitar playing. The production and sound is very clear.
Very well done, I like this. Thanks to share...

nice stuff &mdash 12/04/06 - 10:29:41 PM
the songwriting, vocals guitars are real good. some things that hits me.. is i find the tambourine in the verses unneccesary. closer to the end the drumming goes off a bit or cut back level. i'm guessing you're doing the drumming on the keyboard. i totally applaud that. it's not easy. essentially its a great tune.

You guessed correctly - I did the drums with the pen tool in GB. Pain in the ass to tell you the truth as percussions are not my forte. Tamberine is a bit unecessary now you point it out - may try cutting it down before I cut it altogether. Thanks for the post! Gav

Timely - our year 12 have just left school forever down here ....... &mdash 12/05/06 - 05:28:21 PM
Like the lyrics, vocals and arrangement, and you've produced this well Gav. The drums are a little off-putting though - not sure what you've used, but sounds like midi via pencil or keyboard. It would be interesting to hear this with some different drums, or at least "humanising" the quantising a bit more.
Guitars sound very nice in my 'phones. Also like the additional vox towards the end. Overall a very good tune.

Thanks very much Neil! &mdash 12/05/06 - 06:43:52 PM
Ah school! It was so easy but we didnt know it at the time!

Anyway, you and Vic surely sussed out the drums were done in midi. I hear what you say about using more natural sounding drums. I might get on to my old buddy 'The composer' to see if he'd be interested in another collab since he did such a fab job with one of my earlier compositions!

And to be honest I'd dont feel like messing around too much with percussions in GB as I'd prefer to use my energy doing guitar and writing/singing. I wouldnt mind spending the time if I had the time ;).

Thanks Neil

Gav, I can highly recommend Drums on Demand if you are after a quick, easy and effective loop system for drums. Bryan is a good option - or for a live drummer you could see if kevmikwa (Mike) has a spare moment (he's good).

God what a beautiful chorus! &mdash 01/17/07 - 04:02:59 PM
The changes in that chorus are wonderful....you got some skills, my friend--like the complete package. Great lyrics, great melody, great voice, pro mix. Are you pursuing music professionally?? I hope so and I wish you luck. In the mean time, keep 'em coming!
