Description:
about getting through the week. or a month. work..it melts in your brain, not in your hands.
Lyrics:
So It Is
start the day over again
good morning dear
get ready for the days routine
the day is clear
off to work once again
did i lock the door
here i sit at my desk
the coffee is sour
shuffling papers never ends
the day is set
the clock is moving to slow
the bosses pet
chorus
everyday repeats itself over again
everyday its something else over again
over and over so it is
over again
if i could sleep at my desk
i need the rest
snake through traffic to get home
to my mess
to the store and doing chores
you're welcome dear
settle in my easy chair
nursing a beer
anything good on tv
or will i sleep
at night we go to a movie
i fell asleep
chorus
everyday repeats itself over again
everyday its something else over again
over and over so it is
over again
monday tuesday such a stress
i need the rest
wednesday thursday i'm almost there
friday i won't care
looked out the window
saw my money go
it's the cash flow
gotta work for a living
for the status quo
chorus
everyday repeats itself over again
everyday its something else over again
over and over so it is
over again
so it is
over and over and over again
so it is
over and over and over again
so it is
over and over and over again
so it is
over and over and over again
so it is

Almost like psychedelic Kinks.... &mdash 12/06/06 - 10:36:12 PM
Vic, you've got a real identifiable sound, and I've said that before... You've also got an increasingly idiosyncratic lyrical stance...
And then there are those graphic elements....
Great liquid guitar tones, and many of 'em!
I like the tightness of the vocals and the vocal mix on this... And, though the drums are relatively back in the mix on the headphones I'm listening on, they sound like really GOOD drums... The mix reminds me of late Sixties mixes on 45's....Really good SOUNDS, even when there's a little roll-off toward the bass end...
Anyway, I like it, is the point....

Thanks Ed &mdash 12/07/06 - 03:52:05 PM
i guess i'm a little psycho of the first order. i've been thinking hard why i phrase the vocals as i do. what i'm figuring is i doing it as i would be playing a lead guitar line with the attack like my favorite vocalist of all time john lennon. probably wrong. i'm always trying to find that sweet spot on the mix so your comment on the 45's late sixties mix is pleasing 'cuse it had such warmth to it.usually takes me 3 evenings to get everything in there to where i can feel comfortable about it. i find it fun to experiment with sounds and layout that was so predominant of the sixties. so i guess thats where all that comes into play. Thanks for tuning in. always a pleasure to get your input.

You are a friggin' music maker of the first way-back order! I love your music and this is great. Absolutely one coool song. Great guitar and your vocal is classic Vic Holman (didn't know that was classic did ya?).
This is a GEM... Simon gimmee back that download button, man....

Man, get me out of this cubicle! &mdash 12/06/06 - 11:34:18 PM
Vic, you have one distinctive sound going on here! I like the chord progression with the heavily-phased guitar leads on top. Very cool. [ Reply to This ]
Vic &mdash 12/07/06 - 02:21:47 AM
You've done it again. The chorus is huge! Big, Big sound. You are definitelty developing a signature sound. I like the lyrics focusing on the everyday mundane to and fro of a week. The massive flangy thing on the guitar is daring, but somehow works, and as usual your production values inspire me. The vocals seem to still have a slightly late attack, slightly late in the timing off the beat. Maybe that's intentional, and part of your style, but I can't help thinking it has something to do with tracking latency. Do you record and track with digital effects in your vocal monitor mix, or add them later? Nonetheless, a fine work.

thanks philip &mdash 12/07/06 - 04:19:09 PM
yeah there are a lot of layers here some almost hide in there but thats what builds it up. it's also a workout to get the mix in place. regarding vocal. the first verse starts on the upbeat the the other lines on the first downbeat. intentional tried it both ways this worked with the chord progression better. i recorded the main vocal straight with compression, low cut around 120hz, and very little reverb, and 2 degrees off center. the back up vocals the same, except panned farther off center and increased the reverb, no stereo panning this time around. so pretty straight ahead really. but like i mentioned it takes some serious time in the final mix department.
Thanks for the good words!

get this man out of his box! &mdash 12/07/06 - 04:05:03 PM
i'm just thankful i have a window! yeah there are some odd chords that i couldn't even tell you the names of. it's fun to create sounds out of guitars that just shouldn't be! this was created with a rotary simulator and a flanger with the second solo adding a wah pedal. Thanks again! [ Reply to This ]

the whole band &mdash 12/07/06 - 09:25:01 PM
sounds like. vic, you do have a "sound" luv the production and mix. everything sounds like a whole band contributed to this. its all on edge, but theres a very warm and fuzzy that comes across as well. [ Reply to This ]
you know... &mdash 12/07/06 - 10:27:12 PM
..i keep thinking "okay this one will sound different" oh well thats okay it fits like a good pair of shoes. thats my fuzzy feeling. i do like going to a edge. luckily i haven't fallen over it.

Pure Vic For Now People
You've got a great thing going here - it's like the right producer finding the right artist - and the best part is you get along. Although I'm sure there are times when you look at yourself like you're crazy but go along with it anyway. That's what makes your work so intriguing - you're taking chances all the time. Love the guitar effects and vocal phrasing.
Question: How do you get so much volume without distortion in your final mix? I'm getting ready to post my LIOLI entry - and I'm obsessing. I'm sure you understand.

Thats the magic.... &mdash 12/08/06 - 11:14:42 AM
of using logic express. in the output channel i use multiband compression to balance everything (it's tricky at first to use)and also apply a limiter, which allows you to bring bring up the overall volume while put a cap on the red line. i don't know how well that works in garageband. and yes my bipolar selves get along. so far. Thanks! and good luck on the comp. was it that thing i heard last night and dissappeared as i commemnted? if so i was trippin [ Reply to This ]
Thanks for the tips &mdash 12/08/06 - 11:12:34 PM
I just got a new used mac fully loaded with logic, soundtrack, final cut, jam packs - the list goes on. It's an iMac G5 - essentially for my wife's work - but I get to play at night.
Yes that was Dear Pudding - you caught my short test run last night. [ Reply to This ]

Great Production &mdash 12/08/06 - 12:25:33 PM
This is a really well done song. I think your use of guitar sounds are really good. It's hard to use unusual, for lack of a better word, guitar tones, but they fit in here very well. The background chorus guitar in the verse is also very well done.
All the instruments sound again. Don't worry about your voice it is very effective in the delivery of the lyrics and sound. The Lennon influence is unmistakable, and very effective.
I like your psycho-derelict breakdown before the last chorus.
Great job. [ Reply to This ]
thanks for the words &mdash 12/08/06 - 09:30:56 PM
i can usually get away with odd guitar sounds because the songs themselves tend to be some what odd. i also, if when, i use synths to a minimum and try to utilize effects instead. don't know if you remember on the first few queen albums they had a liner "no synths used" i had always found that intriquing.
Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment! [ Reply to This ]
I know the feeling &mdash 12/10/06 - 07:56:46 PM
that shit, is this day over feeling. You have a way of putting it to music great job. Yes your final recording is as allways polished and clear
Like bud was saying, its not easy to get that all around everything at the right tone sound. Hey sometimes having it just a little off works to. [ Reply to This ]
and last week and this week &mdash 12/11/06 - 09:31:13 PM
it just gets worse. i'll probably have to do a song about deadlines. always learning something new in tweeking the sound. laying tracks down though i'll go for feel more than over the top perfection. otherwise the songs would never get posted. [ Reply to This ]
Strange &mdash 12/11/06 - 02:35:18 PM
The guitar sounds that you use are... strange. The vocals are strange. The drums are strange. The whole thing has a delicate kind of strangeness over it. The left panned guitar picking reminds me of She's so heavy by The Beatles, which is also a strange song, so that's actually not very strange. Liked this a lot. Distinct originality.
Thanks

accused of that, old style psychedelic stuff. i guess you can figure out what i was listening to as a kid. obviously a deep set subconscience thing. glad you got into it. i'm sure future tunes will be fairly wierd in there own right. [ Reply to This ]
Wowser! &mdash 12/12/06 - 12:23:07 PM
This may well be your best tuneage yet Vic! Sounds like John Lennon meets the Moody Blues meets Pink Floyd...WHAT A BAND!!!
Great lyrics. A perfect vehicle for your distinct vox. Wonderful psychedlic guitar tones. The whole package is spot-on. A wonderful paean to the struggles of the common worker.

What dance moves go with this? &mdash 12/17/06 - 05:58:19 PM
I can't quite put a finger on the atmoshere of this song. It sounds very pleasing..and I'm not sure if it's because of its retro beat or something like a synthesis of contemporary Brit and alternative. I think it has a little bit of each and the result is a deligthful mix. Vocals really go well with the tempo... and the instrumental play is masterful across the board. Thanks fo the free download! ha ha &mdash 12/17/06 - 09:09:51 PM
if you could dance to this i'ld give you a dollar. this has a very odd chord pattern that sets the theme. to many influences through the years and this is a blender full of it. thanks very much leon. [ Reply to This ]
Over and Over and Over.... &mdash 05/14/07 - 08:40:24 AM
You vocal approach on this song really supports the idea of monotonous days that fill your week. I would bet that there is at least one other person here at Mac Jams that sits at the same desk and nurses that same beer watching it all repeat itself day after day after day.
You have such a cool voice and your guitar is to die for. I am so impressed with your songs, over and over and over again.
