Description:
Here is my second tenor sax song... the second week... still getting out the cobwebs, while I find more.

I have been looking for loops that I can solo to. This is Very Different from my previous songs, but in ways harkins back to my roots. I am not referring to the "electropop" loop music bed in this tune, but the kind of music that makes you want to get up and dance and move your feet.

I'm playing the tenor sax and electric guitar. All other parts are Bandmate loops.

I hope you enjoy... I'm having fun.

My first tenor instrumental is "Tenor Sax Reflections:

Snappin good &mdash 12/06/06 - 11:21:46 PM
Well, this is very cool. A nice rush of dance floor magic, complete with licorice whips. Yummy. My only gripe is a few flat notes on the sax. Get er' tuned up right and you got a hit I will sing in my shower or on the dance floor. Nice spectrum of sound. You are groovin' with your new hunk of brass.

Thanks for dropping in... &mdash 12/06/06 - 11:36:18 PM
... a little dance number. Any flat notes blame on the guy playing the horn... not the horn. He is still getting back his chops. If you want to sing this in the shower... go ahead,.. but you'll have to make up the lyrics I guess.

cheers.

Lots of fun here &mdash 12/07/06 - 12:29:19 AM
Really like the sound your new sax,

Cool beat to go with it, you really seem to be enjoying playing the thang.
That bass really gives it a push.

Lots of sass with that brass. Ya Richard!

WAy to go dadai!

Again, really seem to get a super sound.

Fun and then some... &mdash 12/07/06 - 12:58:13 AM
The horn has a real good saxy sound. It needs time for me to relearn the techniques and discipline of playing well. But this is a blast. Bill, thanks for your enthusiastic support. You are a great guy, with or without Betsy in your hands.

Why are you cheering me on, Bill? I haven't done any shimmying on this yet. I'm still pressed up against the wall, scopin' out the scene.

nice sax &mdash 12/07/06 - 01:39:32 AM
this does indeed make me want to get up and dance.

sax sounds pretty good for getting out the cobwebs. i'd keep it up! cool breathy tone you've got - and some power.

it's always refreshing to hear other live instruments than guitar and piano on here.

Well then.. &mdash 12/07/06 - 10:05:44 AM
don't just stand there, urb.... dance! : )

I am jazzed that you like this instrumental. Yeah, there are many cobwebs. A lot of house cleaning to do with this sax. But I'll be playing while I work : )
cheers...

Well with some cool backing tracks it helps when trying to improvise a solo part. It makes me wish I was in a band again. The musical interchange with the other members during a song... dosn't get much better. Thanks for stopping by.

The husky-ness that comes out of the sax is really terrific. You should play that more often.

I certainly plan to be playing this horn a lot. My guitar is feeling neglected of late. She'll just have to understand that an old and dear friend is back! heheh.

Great job on the sax!

God bless,

it is the thing i like very much.. the melodic/progressional capability to bridge both sorrowful and cheeriness to form a wonderful ecstasy!

sax was very nice.. i really liked the accompanying lines and melodies..

very well produced!! thanks for sharing

I hadn't really thought about that, but I hear what you mean. I didn't plan that. Probably the pessimism in me that lurks just below my optimism... or something, heheh. Glad you like this tune, haribo.

Sunday morning fever... (Saturday night at 2 AM) &mdash 12/07/06 - 02:14:27 PM
This is chair-twirling fun (I'm at work, so I have to make due with a quick chair-wiggle). Very fun backing music for you to wail over... and your sax sounds much cleaner than the prior song, where it was very breathy & wet... practicing is brigning you back up to speed quickly! This almost makes me want to dust off my high school clarinet & go buy a reed! Very fun playing there, Jack!

Those backing tracks are cool aren't they? Not usually what I listen to, but when I found them they seemed great for doing another tenor tune. Yes... practice.... and more practice. But time!... need more time!

Thanks for the visit Drak.

Well, I'll admit up front.... &mdash 12/07/06 - 08:59:49 PM
...that a few of the variations from pitch bother me more than I want them to...

But I love the groove this has, and I love the energy in your playing, and the facility you've got going... You're just nice and loose sounding, to me...

And I know this is supposed to be a show-off piece for sax, but I'm really enjoying the guitar bits in the right channel. Really enjoying that, and all the better for being unexpected.

I keep thinking I've heard that bass line before... maybe it's just recalling "Miss You" and that sort of sound...

I'm always pleased when there's a new Dadai tune, Jack...

Ed

Heheh.... &mdash 12/07/06 - 09:10:30 PM
Like I said above, any flat notes or miss-notes, or anything sour sounding is the saxophonist fault, not the horn's. Right now my excitement about playing this tenor is a bit ahead of having enough command to pull off a longer, faster soloing song like this. But it's fun. And heck... I'm a learner... and getting feedback about out pitch here and there only reinforces in me the desire to give this tenor some time.

Ed... you are always thoughtful, encouraging, and always have something worth reading in your comments.

Thanks.

not a dancer myself &mdash 12/07/06 - 09:30:52 PM
i've never been into horns perse, with the exception of the sax. probably because it comes so close to a overdrive lead guitar sound. doesn't it figure i would be the one to say something like that. you where almost ready to do some trade off/ harmonizing with your guitar near the end. something to think about....maybe some time soon? that would make me dance! fun listen!

Just say the word.... &mdash 12/07/06 - 09:35:47 PM
To play a bit part in one of your songs would be really fine. As I recall, the tenor played into a few songs ala the Beatles, Stones, and other bands of the 60's and 70's.

Vic, your music is tops. Thanks for stopping in.

Big sound Jack! &mdash 12/08/06 - 01:03:55 AM
I love sax almost as much as a Hammond C3 - I really wish I could play this well. My feeling towards sax is that it's a great team player with the occasional run for the try line (er touchdown for my American friends). I realise this is an excuse to do some extended blowing, and in that context it sounds great. I'd be really interested in having you play a solo on one of my tracks some time. You've recorded this really well, I imagine (like jgurner's coronet and french horn) it would be a real challenge with levels and such. Absolutely beautiful rich sound you got here.

... for the try line &mdash 12/08/06 - 12:28:06 PM
Hey Neil... yes, an excuse for some extended playing and seeing what I can and can't do. Putting these demos up (actually quickly done takes) helps to see where I am at after all these years. As I said originally, I have a lot of work to do. I am most pleased with the sound I am getting at different times in both songs. And yes, the sax is a great team player instrument with that occasional sprint to the end zone (USA style).

I appreciate your chiming in, and of course I'd be more than happy to add anything to one of your songs.

Coolness &mdash 12/08/06 - 03:09:08 PM
I think it's coming back to you. Nice sax work.

That said, your playing here is a bit laidback for the energetic loops. It would go great with something more laidback, but these loops need some very precise timing and intonation.

(Check out Steps Ahead, the "Magnetic" album. Probably the best illustration of straight sax over pretty electronic background.)

... this one got me awake on a Saturday morning ... it did what the coffee failed to do ... AND I was dancin too ! Luv the sax ! Might also sound cool to put a trio of voices on this one ... sort of like the Supremes or Fout Tops .... (well that would be four not three) ....

cant remember the last time i heard a sax incorperated into a "dance" track. A little advice if u do want this to be a great dance track is maybe get a good bass drum to really drive the track to where it wants to go.. i kno u may have wanted a few of those beats to be deep in the bass but they just dont have enough depth to them. But overall a very interesting and eye opening piece keep it rocking.

Dance Track Sax &mdash 12/10/06 - 10:51:51 AM
First time I ever used a dance track or anything close to it, I am not surprised that it may be lacking some particulars of that genre. It is primarily a vehicle for the sax soloing. Sort of a practice track. I appreciate you inpyt though... thanks for listening...

Glad you stopped by to comment so I could "discover" your work! This is a very enjoyable piece--made more so because I can tell YOU are having a great time with it. Grooving and upbeat, but the sax is pure "Dadai having a great time with this", and that is very appealing--the fact that your joy is so evident while jamming to the loop bed. Fun!

Rick, thanks for the visit. It was nice to happen upon your music also. And I look forward to listening to some more of your tunes. Having a sax again is both something new and something like discovering an old friend. This adds to the fun and excitement of being able to jam once again on the tenor.
Thanks...

Though the loops dont make you justice.
