Description:
Love the loop you’re with. I decided to embrace rather than desicate the loop this time – so you’ll find it here naked as the day it was sampled. Mostly loops with midi bass, electric guitar and tambourine.
Again, this was great fun and an inspiring kick in the pants. The hardest part was leaving it alone and waiting to post. I look forward to hearing your entries and comments.

Lyrics:
images are all I know
words escape me when I need them
branches heavy wet with snow
bending towards the ground

poets paint their pictures
on the walls inside my mind
sooty cobwebs in the corners
shadows dancing in a line

seven verses slipping by
blank and free and out of time
sentenced black in shades of phrases
charged before the ink is dry

bound in leather gilded edges
illuminating songs divine
tracing tales through notes and meters
shivers running up my spine

dear pudding won't you come out and play &mdash 12/08/06 - 10:54:16 PM
this is the missing 20 second sound track running through my mind. while doing 360's down a snow covered hill heading towards a hospital at the bottom of a hill. luckily the rear end caught up on a wall before. i got to the bottom. i sat in my car facing uphill and yes i lit one up. but that was a long time ago. you tripped my light fantastic.

You really faced that loop head-on! Excellent job making it your own. I love the dissonant layers of voices, and your poetry is beautiful. I don't believe words do escape you when you need them.

your tune totally cracked me up. Since Prudence was in my head I decided to write her a tune. I hate writing lyrics - these came fast on the subway. Lyrics about writing - I feel like i'm in high school. The dissonance was my chording experiment with Audacity - which is where I did the reversing also. I'm still working in GB1. A true Luddite.

Words to live by for sure.

First of all I love the trippy bud photo artwork to lead it all off. He must be freaking his little Norwich Terrier mind out on some X or something. Secondly, this track is truely hypnotic. Very Beatles, or Stone Roses. Thick and trancey. I used to write some of my best lyrics on the subway. I miss that time to write not that I ride a my motorcycle to work here in SF. The F train was a very inspiring and hellish place to be trapped all at the same time.

Impossible to stop images from psychedelic London to pop up in my mind (artwork evocative and really funny). Love your non-intellectual and straighforward approach. Great pudding of melted sounds (what the hell did you put in the cake, mmm ?), nice and cool singing. Heard it 5 or 6 time to allow me to drop these lines (I'm slow when writting in english), loved it more and more. Great entry, bud.

We baked this cake a little too long methinks - by the end I wanted to go back and pull it all apart and start over but I didn't have the heart. My processor is so slow I had to premix many of the ingredients like in the old days with my four track.

my fav bud track. fantastic beatle-esque, psychedelic absolutely. very trippy guitar and background fx. cool effect on the vocals. that it was a LIOLI entry is even more points.

What generated that amazing sound used at intro and exit? its like the suspended harmonics of an acoustic piano in the low register. LOVE IT

I like this. Sounds a bit like Syd Barrett, too. Was that the Day In The Life chord backwards? It's kinda like acid without the mess. Well done.

This could be a long lost Rutles tune. (and that's a high compliment)

[ Reply to This ]
Oh that acid mess &mdash 12/09/06 - 05:57:12 PM
it's been so long my flashbacks have expired. The backwards opening is actually the end of the song in reverse. The end was inspired by all things Beatles.

Superb opening! Grand chaos happening in the background - like a musician's commune drunk on peace, love, and maybe a little LSD. Very Lennonesque. Man, that electric guitar sounds pretty sweet.

The lyrics are great and perfectly appropriate for the musical style. "Seven verses slipping by, blank and free and out of time" is too tasty for words. Rather than turning the loop into something else you've supercharged it as the centerpiece to a flower child explosion. Way groovy!

Thanks go to you Chikoppi &mdash 12/09/06 - 10:22:13 PM
for setting the stage again. I've heard some really interesting and inventive pieces today. I think - like me - a lot of people enjoy a challenge. It adds to the sense of community to be working on a group project like this.
We lost Lennon 26 years ago yesterday - the loop fit - and so did the glasses.

This is what I like, is what it is... &mdash 12/12/06 - 10:02:32 PM
Plenty of that Beatles era that runs from 'Tomorrow Never Knows' through 'Rain' and 'Day In The Life' and on into 'I Am The Walrus'....

I love the thickness and the drone-iness, the guitars, the piano... I love the vocals...

I don't want to crit because I love it, but I DO want to crit, because I love it... there are parts where me and my aging hearing would love to have the vocals a dB or two higher relative to the track, and I'd love some McCartney-esque bass in there that was melodic, compressed/squashed like heck, and a little prominent relative to the track...

This is very cool. I wish I could do something like this some day...

Ed

Amazing intro! &mdash 12/14/06 - 05:36:37 AM
I had a listen a while ago, then got interrupted mid-comment... so I'll try this again.

It's all good; really good, in fact, and quite original, in a 'retro' way. For me the absolute best part is the beginning; I just love the way the backwards ending 'fades in' to meld with the chord progression. Very skillfully done. You've received lots of compliments here, and they're all justified--this is a great concept, and well-executed. I will add a nit-pick, however, in case it's of any value (and if it isn't kindly ignore it and continue to bask the the well-deserved praise you're getting!), and that is that for me the vocal part of the song is less engaging than the instrumental part, especially after that amazing intro. I'm not exactly sure why that is, but it might have something to do with the lower, harmonizing, voice; it's always there, and I just wonder if it's even necessary... just a thought. Loved the tabla at the end.

[ Reply to This ]
I agree - &mdash 12/14/06 - 10:34:19 PM
I like the beginning too and feel a little let down when the voice kicks in. Honestly - by the time I did the vocals I was pretty sick of the song and did em quick. Then I messed a little (too much maybe) with them in Audacity - which is where they got the slightly sour harmony effect. Good ears on the Tabla - the little treat for those who pay attention till the end.
