Description:
I first heard this song called "CRUSH" by tsand19151 and then saw the video he posted in the forums and just WANTED so sing all over it so badly ..... here is MY version ... called DREAMIN .... the lyrics are about ... OK this part is gonna be DEEP .... it's when you are in a totally different "mind space" from someone else at any particular moment .... for example .. when you are drunk and someone else is NOT ... or they are .. and YOU are not ... etc. etc. the list is endless and I could be here forever .... but the concept is when two people are on different planes at THAT MOMENT .... and how they just don't GET "it" at THAT moment ... does that make sense ????
Lyrics:
I could be dreaming
But I just don’t know
I could be make believing
I might be high … I might be low …
Does anybody really care
Where my mind is right now
At any given time
If it’s not where they are
We all live in the here and now
But what about tomorrow
Or yesterday
Just reserved for someday
I could be dreaming
But I just don’t know
I could be make believing
I might be high … I might be low …
it’s not like you care
If I’m not where you are
Ooh - my head is hurtin
From trying to make you understand
That I am here but you are not
You’re there
who am I – who are you
I could be – I could be dreaming
But I just don’t know
I could be make believing
I might be high … I might be low …
Does anybody really care
Where my mind is right now
Oooh I’m somewhere where you’re not

my humble opinion &mdash 12/09/06 - 01:10:35 AM
Not a breakbeat :D
But dark and attractive. I like the mood of this piece, it's depressing in a soothing way. I'm not a fan of the constant guitar solo, but that's a stylistic choice i'm not going to say is wrong, it Just didn't resonate with me. When the guitar is featured it does some very tasteful playing and I appreciate it fully. Alannah your voice is a perfect fit. [ Reply to This ]
Aerojet ... &mdash 12/09/06 - 03:09:33 PM
.. thanks for the listen ... I enjoyed the "irony" of your comment in that the lyrics are specifically about when people are in two different places - i.e. this certainly applies to music as well ... when one person totally "feels" it .. and someone else just does "not" ... also ... this could apply to "any given day" ... one day you might listen to a tune and say .. "nope not for me" .. and then some time later when you are in a totally different mood .. the same song might just hit you and you are groovin away to it .... this is the IRONY I was trying to capture in the lyrics.

very powerful stuff! &mdash 12/09/06 - 01:35:41 AM
Loved the way your voice was breaking up in places.
Your vocal really brings this instrumental to life.
Compliments the virtuoso playing by tsand beautifully.
More of this kind of stuff please. [ Reply to This ]

This is as good as it gets in the female rock vocal. Inclined or reclined you really sing the dayoights out of this song. Great! Rock/blues... great guitar leded riffing. I am a fan... [ Reply to This ]

Excellent voice! &mdash 12/10/06 - 12:37:43 AM
Amazing vocals as always Alannah! Like AEROjet, the constant soloing is not my favourite style, however in the context of you adding your voice (and firmly imprinting your own style) to an already completed piece (I got that right didn't I?), that's not a big problem. I'd really like to hear you doing a collab from scratch with one of the heavier players/bands here (Springclock "springs" to mind or tsand19151 again for example). Sometimes I feel like the discipline of working an original song up from scratch would uncover an even more incredible aspect of what you do here so well.

Jiguma for your comments .... to be honest ... I wouldn't have the FIRST CLUE of how to create a song from scratch .... I wish I were musically inclined that way ..... but sadly I am not .. which is why I am grateful for the FABULOUS musicians here at Macjams who ARE able to do this and allow me to sing all over their songbeds !!!!

my first collab here!!!! excellent job, Lady. My only gripe is that I wish the guitar wasn't playing under your kool vocals. But as I explained to you I lost the working copy of the track due to a hard drive crash so I wasn't able to edit it. Anyway, love your style!!!!! And yes, folks, we are in the process of doing an "official collab from scratch. Excellent passion you show here. Gonna love working with you as you make me look good!!!!!!!!!!! wow........ Love the occasional "rasp" &mdash 12/11/06 - 04:46:51 PM
I think someone referred to it as a break in the voice--rasp, break--call it what you will, but it's raw, powerful, emotive, and incredibly attractive in this song. I love the passion in this! [ Reply to This ]
Heh heh ... &mdash 12/11/06 - 04:51:07 PM
... could it be all those nasty cigarettes I tend to smoke while I am singing? This might sound odd to you ... but that raspy sound only comes out of my mouth when I am singing quietly .... even though it sounds like I am belting it out ... I am not ... when I sing louder it comes out clearer as you will see from some of my other tunes ...thanks for the listen.

hot damn, girl! &mdash 12/12/06 - 12:06:54 AM
I have visions of holding a few plastic beer cups (and dancing amongst a bunch o' empty ones on the ground!) in a sea of swaying people, most of whom are nodding their heads in tempo -- back home, we called it Summerfest, the largest live music festival in the world. I'm really going to miss it next year (since I've moved across the country), and this song reminds me why I loved it so much. The energy and passion in live music. Now, I know this isn't live, but I'll be damned if I can't tell the difference. Sounds like you're singing on stage with the band -- and thousands of rockers in the audience are going ga ga for you. You're great at this genre, Alannah. Do you ever sing live? I'd love to see that! [ Reply to This ]
Trust me .... &mdash 12/12/06 - 12:31:50 AM
.. when I say this ... there is a thousand times MORE energy when I sing LIVE ... I have yet been able to capture that live sound while recording .. hahahahaha however ... my "live" performances have been limited to my 4 times per year visits to the Karaoke Bar ... and the one time I got too drunk and jumped up on stage with the band and started singing .. hahahha yeah I wanna forget THAT one .... there was this ONE other time where the band actually allowed me to sing with them ... and four lines into the tune I forgot the words .. yeah that sukked .... but glad to know this one brought back some "flashbacks" for ya ... if I could remember lyrics I WOULD be singing live ... looks kinda bad when you are rawkin out with a cheat sheet in your hand.

Almost missed this one... &mdash 12/12/06 - 02:06:52 AM
This phenomena happens to me most of my walking life, Alannah... ...ending up on way different pages than most... -- I think that you did a nice job singing all over this. I have to say though, that I do also agree very much with Jiguma. He put it beautifully. And you know what, I'd be happy to work up a piece with you, and I'd be willing to bet that others would join me. I think that it would make for an interesting match. What do ya think....
Nice job, Lady - Dion [ Reply to This ]
Of course I would love to work with you ... &mdash 12/12/06 - 11:37:26 AM
... ya know ... I have never worked up an original piece with anyone yet .... ALL of the songs I have posted have been me singing on top of already completed pieces ... there were maybe a few moments on a couple of them ... where there were some additions and or changes made a bit after I sang on them .... and I had help mixing on a few others too ... I think we can all tell which ones I mixed and which ones others mixed ... hahaha - a true collab would be great tho! I'll let you be the leader on that tho because I wouldnt even know where to begin.

Rock on! &mdash 12/12/06 - 12:43:28 PM
You go, girl! This is a nice zone for you to be in - love the way you rock this track, love the rasp and the waver, you're giving me future collab ideas soul-sister! I totally felt this. I do like the music- it could be mixed better, but I bought this track as a total package, which was led off by YOU selling it. By the way, I like how your vox fades later than the music - it adds to that whole "was that a dream?" vibe. Alannah, rockin' my world! [ Reply to This ]
HAHAHAHA &mdash 12/12/06 - 01:18:41 PM
Yes .. the constant thread about needing to be mixed better ... well I had either better get better at this ... or else I should leave these elements to the professionals ... I just like to sing ... I'm no studio engineer for sure! And I'm sure my "lack of a mac" doesn't help matters much. Thanks for the listen and comments. "You're" the man when it comes to having "soul".

My favorite posting of yours. Great job of putting lyrics to the tune. The lyrics are like a snug glove on a musical hand. Gave me a bit of 60s San Francisco hippie chills--especially when your voice broke like joplin's in a couple of places. Bravo. [ Reply to This ]

Slow, draggin' beast &mdash 01/06/07 - 02:01:41 AM
The tempo of this is great, it especially gives the verse a slow, draggy feel that pulls you along in it's wake. You have got a fabulously sensual i've-just-smoked-20 cigarettes-deal-with-it-loser voice which is really unique (and powerful). The harmonies on this are sweeet.
There are parts when you're voice growls so much it threatens to break-up ... makes you sound even more like a woman singing on the edge.
Really glad I came to this - pleased to meetcha

Your voice is equal parts jazz, soul, Janis Joplin, and Melissa Ethridge. I like it. Never heard anything like it. You managed to find a great song to sing over - I had never heard it before. It's interestingly constructed and has some very cool, snaky guitar leads. [ Reply to This ]

I always manage to find very kewl songs to sing over .. heh heh .. there are a LOT of very talented artists here at Macjams ... I just wonder whether or not I am doing them any favours by singing all over their wonderful tunes .... they are truly generous and gracious enough to allow me to put my stamp on their music for sure! And yes ... certainly Joplin and Etheridge were definitely there in my top fav five!

with your example of being the solo drunk- this song makes me feel like the intoxicated person, I can literally feel that wall between my reality and theirs in this music, kind of a through the looking glass type of feeling, a pane separating two realities. Love it [ Reply to This ]
