Description:
music for hangovers... tried it on myself... it works
this is my entry for the lioli challenge but I think I broke the rules at some stage.
I only used the 70s ballad piano loop though, nothing else.

hangover &mdash 12/09/06 - 10:37:17 AM
egztreeeeemly creaaaaative! I wouln't have expected anything less from you, Fred. Man oh man, as experimental this song may sound, this is done with tons of good taste and intelligence. And that tiny piece of datahumour of course. If it really works for hangovers? Hmm... not sure about that. But be sure I fav this song (hehe, just to easily find it back in case of a hangover:-)...

Not sure it could'nt work &mdash 12/09/06 - 01:16:24 PM
the other way round (talking 'bout hangovers). Never really found "funny music" that funny or subtle or clever. You're the exception in this very narrow way. While quite far from my musical grounds, I listened to this twice. With a grin. Special mention for the last part. Clever AND funny. [ Reply to This ]

I was going to ask you the same ! I worked a lot with british an american directors as a film editor (mostly in advertising), and lived in London for 4 years, this being the consequence of that. But I sometimes needs the dictionnary, and writing to answer my mail here is really time consuming !
Cheers, mate. [ Reply to This ]

The whole loop and nothing but the loop &mdash 12/09/06 - 10:45:05 PM
I'll back you up in court if it comes to that. This is a really fun, creative piece of music - it seems to have it's own life. I like that. Could you explain a little of the process? [ Reply to This ]
nothing but the loop &mdash 12/10/06 - 08:56:13 AM
it seems to have its own life... I totally agree with that since the final result is part of a random process. for this one I only used 2 tracks (well, and a third one for the outro part)and worked with ableton live 6 only.
for both tracks I used a midi instrument called 'glissando' and a midi pitch effect (first track set at +12st, second one at +24st). Once the loop was imported, I cut it and pasted it,
some segment remained untouch and others were, well modified :)
then, while playing both tracks, I played with the 'gliss rate' tool from the midi instrument, to create all this fast notes. and here we go! the whole process took me about 30 minutes alltogether.
thanks for your interest and listen!

Spare &mdash 12/10/06 - 02:50:17 PM
Awesome. Thankfully, I don't even remember what hangovers are like, it's been so long. But I DO remember what it's like to play the solar system like the gigantic guts of a piano, and this reminded me of that. Very creative, and fantastic considering the constraint of only using that loop. [ Reply to This ]

what i pictured &mdash 12/11/06 - 09:29:34 PM
this seems like a time lapse movie of a summer afternoon - there's some sun, but mostly clouds zoom by, sometimes with only a few raindrops, others with a quick deluge.
then nightfall, the last clouds evaporate, and moon rises.

Mr. sir... &mdash 12/12/06 - 01:13:37 AM
Arrrgh...It is likely that I will have a slight hangover tomorrow, given the lightweight that I am. This is awsome. One of your most inventive pieces - Very creative! This one is definitely a study - Can't go into the details of it, cause I'm listening on a craptackular system at the moment, but even so, I can tell that a lot of focused, creative juices went into putting this one together. Can't wait to hear it on my system. A fine job sir. Thanks for hanging this one out for us - Dion [ Reply to This ]
Well now... &mdash 12/12/06 - 01:18:49 AM
I REALLY can't wait to hear this one a good system, cause even on this piece of shiate, I can tell that this is a sophisticated piece of work. You guys are really putting out some very interesting stuff. I mean, 'interesting', as in, I can't wait to really sit and be still with this to really hear what's going on.
Very cool and unique vocal approach to this, Lisa! This one has to have you guys proud - Quite inventive! Man I can't wait to really listen to this.
Very cool stuff you guys.

3 Contrasts &mdash 12/12/06 - 01:16:17 PM
Very interesting! The sounds are so analog and yet the pattern of notes so digital. That contrast is strangely captivating.
The range of density in the notes is what really makes this piece for me - to slide between a very spacious passage of just a few tones to a frenzy of notes too fast to quite comprehend.
The third contrast is the near/far distinction between instruments made through reverb. Sometimes the reverb separates the two instruments into different voices and other times the instruments play in one voice, despite the spatial distance.
Now, I think you probably did break the rules: 1) the loop must be used prominantly, 2) you may not open the loop to change the notes within it, 3) the loop must be used in portions of no fewer than four consecutive beats. Then again, I have no idea how you went about assembling this - I could be wrong. At the very least it is an extremely cool LIOLI "inspired" song! [ Reply to This ]
euh &mdash 12/22/06 - 11:15:08 AM
I think I did break the rules indeed... but its not my fault... I'm french!
thanks for everything, this is fun, hope to see a round 3 anytime soon :)

Awesome &mdash 12/14/06 - 02:01:48 PM
Hands down the most creative use of a loop I've ever heard. It sounds like the inner workings of a circuit awakening to a life of its own. Does that make sense? Maybe I'm recovering from a hangover too. Or still drunk. But this is awesome. [ Reply to This ]

Monsieur, I tested it... It does NOT work for hangovers! Pas du tout! You cheater, you liar, I'll set your house on fire!
Nevertheless, this remains one of the most brilliant experimentalish songs on MJ.

Glad to hear you back around here; Yes I was bored the last few days, but it was mainly to start playing with my new toys and at last get those tracks out of my head :) Long time coming! Might go into breakbeat/HipHop/Cinematic soundtrack etc etc for the next few songs...
Anyway Happy new machin chose too and we'll talk soon about that Buckey collab! :P
