Got a touch of Mannheim Steamroller in there.... &mdash 12/10/06 - 03:58:33 PM
Synths and big tympani...

I do love this melody...

I like that you're one of the MacJammers working with electronic musics who has a sense of dynamics... things can get loud and can also get soft for a bit... A little detail, I suppose, but I think when it's missing that it sounds less like music to me... More like data output..

I like that graphic element, too...

I sometimes think I use too much dynamic - I think I dream in soundtracks. :-) Happy Holidays to you!

First- I love the album art you have. &mdash 12/10/06 - 09:54:57 PM
Second, this music, although synthesized, sounds very human and warm. I don't know how you do it, but I'm glad you do! Very nice dynamic range, as mentioned above.

One nit - I'm not sure that the alternative chord progression on "and the soul felt its worth' works as well as it could. Maybe continue the alternate rising line at the beginning of 'worth', then resolve on the second half of 'worth'. (It's actually kind of embarassing to give advice on such an otherwise perfect piece, but it kind of stuck out both times I heard it.)

You have a great way of taking this holiday favorite and making it your own. DL & F.

I totally know what you're talking about! I went back and forth about this, too. The thing is: My favorite version of this song uses a similar "alternate" minor chord. But I think because I'm dragging out each measure so much (Here goes my complete lack of music terminology!). Is this song usually in 3/4 time? I'm not sure, but mine is 4/4, and rather slowly paced. So each measure really gets 'elongated' and some of those consistent chords can sound monotonous. I thought perhaps this sounded more intense. But now I'm going to go back and try it like the way you described and see if works. Thanks so much for your thoughts! Really!

Oh, wait. That's already been said :)

This is my favorite carol of all time. In fact, I have my own version in the works. Hope to have it completed BEFORE Christmas. Won't be this detailed or orchestrated.

I love the percussion you used. In fact, all the elements fit very nicely together. Very much enjoyed.

Merry Christmas!

Thanks for this inspiring interpretation of a beautiful piece of music. Sometimes we lose sight of the fact that a lot of wonderful liturgical music has been written around Christmas - a result of muzak saturation. You've rescued this one from that fate. Well done!

Y'know, I'm not religious, and I'm not drawn to religious music for it's lyrical value. But this song has always struck me as beautiful and remarkable. Even the line, "Fall on your knees..." is so very powerful. Honestly, I don't know half the lyrics to this song! :-) (thank goodness for Google, once again). Thanks for stopping by here. I'm just discovering your music!

How lovely! &mdash 12/12/06 - 01:55:23 PM
This is like the soundtrack to the Illuminations show at Epcot. Yours rocks more. : ) Thanks for sharing this! Just a beautiful arrangement - and, for the record, I love the key change - it represents a truly "cosmic" shift in the narrative, which is appropriate, I think. That and the 4/4 allows you to do the cool Ray Lynchian arpeggios, which are really Moog-ish, and simply perfect that way. D/L city!

Hey Bing! &mdash 12/12/06 - 04:42:50 PM
Thank you. This is really encouraging. Funny you mention Ray. He was my first brush with "electronica" as a child. :-) And, wow, everytime I hear some of those Illuminations songs, I'm immediately brought back to the banks of the lagoon there, eyes to the sky in Disney wonderment. I love that show. For awhile, I wanted the job of choreographing events like that to music. Happy Holidays, close-to-Disney-guy. :-)

Easy to see why so many people fav'd it .... and it is still the highest ranking song at present ... Hi, Miss C! I am glad to be back after lying low for a few months and i really missed being here. Work and studies are such an impediment to the great things in life, He-he.

And what better way to return than to review your awesome, fabulous, grand, epic (where's my thesaurus...?) version of my favorite Christmas song! I listened to your song like a dozen times already on my Mac, along with Scott Carmichael's and a few other holiday picks here at Macjams. Words do not really describe enough the quality of your work. It has to be listened to in order to understand the appreciation that people have for your music.

Merry Christmas and thanks so much for sharing the joy of your music!
