Description:
From Bryn:
Cat sent me this vocal track at the beginning of October. It is derived from a set of guidelines and instructions I gave to her which encouraged her to think of a different approach to singing than she normally adopts.
From Cat:
Yes, this was quite a different approach! The guidelines were:
sing short pulses of sound
less than 1 second long
one in a minor key
one in a major key
So, I created an a cappella track and sent it to Bryn, who created the accompaniment based upon that.
Once again, I'm really enjoying the experimental nature of these collaborations.
(thanks, bryn!)

I'm glad that there are people... &mdash 12/10/06 - 08:04:52 PM
...bringing a spirit of intelligent exploration to MacJams that even steps around or beyond the spirit of intelligent exploration that is Situation Normal around here...
Getting to that point where the musical qualities of just about anything become evident and inevitable...

I think one of the things that has been fun in the past year is that exploration of the voice: different styles/genres, and using the voice to paint and illustrate beyond the usual 'palette' that I've been so accustomed to.
I'll still keep to my "Mystified" style on my own projects here and there, but it's nice to step outside the box to gain a new perspective, too.
Thanks for your comments here! [ Reply to This ]

So, it seems you like collaborators who make you do weird things. ;) [ Reply to This ]

What fun -- to mee, sort of a technical twist on 14th century structure and melody -- soft, understated, simple. I would like to work with you -- maybe even both sometime [ Reply to This ]

nice direction &mdash 12/14/06 - 11:22:52 AM
I enjoyed the sense of experimentation on this tune, and hope you take this a capella vocal concept *OUT* even further in future collabs!
There's so much that can be done with just the voice and you, Myst, have such a good one! Flexible, wide-ranging with sweet sound.
I enjoyed the accompaniment on this. Wasn't entirely sure about that one recurring "buzzy" sound, but it's probably like a dish with an unusual spice that you need to give a second chance in order to appreciate fully. I'll give it another listen. [ Reply to This ]
Thanks Cameron &mdash 12/14/06 - 09:23:45 PM
The buzzy sound you hear is actually the vocoded voice of my friend Eva Pedersen. It gradually morphs from the vocodered voice to the natural voice. It is her reading her 'favourite words'.

WOW! The speaking voice of Cat! ^_^
I love the electronicization (is that a word?) of your voice centered with your real one on the right. Gave a haunting vibe to this. [ Reply to This ]

Thanks for the listens :)
It's been a blast collaborating with Bryn and trying out new styles and vocal wanderings!
Actually...the spoken voice isn't mine--it's Eva Pederson in this case.
Although...she did name a couple of my favorite (favourite) words!
You can hear my speaking voice on "Blur" or "Three Similes" or "Mungo's NUMBer"... :)
Thanks again for listening and taking the time to leave comments!
