Description:
a song inspired by the River Conwy in North Wales where I spent a lot of time in my youth and have very fond memories of.
Thanks for listening
cheers,
Phil
Lyrics:
This Old River
This old river reminds me / of when we were young / and so free
Flowing under the bridge / past the sand dunes / then out to the sea
From a high tarn / a torrent cascades / over rocks and foaming falls
Energized by spring’s thaw / and revived / by the soft summer rain
But now / you’re slowing down / my friend
Could you run / your course again?
Nothing / seems quite the same / my friend
For those / who remain
Once a babbling stream / through a wooded ravine / reaching meadows beyond
Where a lifetime ago / we sat on your bank / mesmerised by dappled light
Then we put up our tent / and three nights came and went / under the brightest starry sky
When the time came to leave / we both chose to believe / that we’d found the promised land
Did you / witness that scene / my friend?
Or has this all / just a foolish dream?
Memories / they wax and wane / my friend
But some are / to retain
Like rivulets that fed your feeble flow / and helped you to grow
Recall those who were there / at our sides / to guide us through our lifes
Not those fair-weather friends / whose attention depends on “what’s in it for me?”
But the few who kept true / to their word / never asking in return
So / would we be here / my dear?
Could we get by all alone / my dear?
You know / nothing / would be the same
Without those / who sustain
This old river reminds me / of when we were young / and so free
Flowing under the bridge / past the sand dunes / then out to the sea
You shaped a landscape / that’s etched in my mind / it comes flooding back so clear
Vibrant backdrop / to carefree days of youth / full of wonder / without fear
But now / your slowing down / my friend
Could you run / that winding course again?
Nothing / will ever be the same
For those / who remain

your previous song and said I'll check up new posts. Done. And full confirmation of your great talent. Faved you to stay posted in the future. Really a really really good song. And I dig your mellow voice, too. Thanks for sharing. [ Reply to This ]

Water jazz &mdash 12/13/06 - 04:21:07 PM
Like a river, for sure. What did you use for drums? Nice. The nicest kind of laid back jazz feel, simple and real, honest, fearless without bravado, flowing around pain-rocks like water. [ Reply to This ]

Tobin,I like that phrase! Thanks for stopping by to comment and glad you like it. The drums are loops (some modified slightly) from DoD v6-jazz/latin set.
