Keywords:
Johannes (2)"Curry" (2)Cori Ander (10)guitar (831)
Description:
Nu tändas tusen juleljus is one of the most loved Christmas hymns in my country. It was composed about one hundred years ago by a woman Emmy Köhler who is known almost only for this hymn.

Last Christmas I (kind of) taught Mystified to sing this song in Swedish and the recroding went in to the Noel Project and posted here at macjams (still is). It was also featured on The Lost Records™ Splendor Bright CD.

But here is this years solo guitar version .. well, almost solo, since I dubbed guitars .. TWO tracks (for the first time).

Lyrics:

* * * * * *

Translation:

1) Now a thousand christmas candles are lit, on the dark earthly round.
And thousands, thousands are also shining (beaming) on the deep-blue ground of heaven.

2) And over city and land tonight, the happy message of Christmas is going--
That born is the Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour and God.

3) You star over Betlehem, oh, let your mild light shine in with hope and peace(fulness) in every home and house.

4) In every heart poor and dark, send you a gentle beam.
A beam of Gods loves light, in blessed Christmas time.

(translation: Curry)

Reliably beautiful! &mdash 12/14/06 - 05:11:12 PM
My Xmas CD is slowly starting to fill up - and what a variety this year! This is a beautiful piece/s of playing Curry - and very nicely recorded. I saw a show about Sweden on TV last night and was thinking of you, so it is coincidental that you posted this today. We've been looking at a lot of things about Scandinavia lately - Finnland looks good too. Maybe 2007?
Thanks again Curry - wonderful playing as always,
Neil

You are so welcome here if you happen to be around, I have yet never met any other MJammers live. Be sure come in the summer though (and remember that winter is kind of summer here for you ;-)

Where was she from? I know this song very well as we have our norwegian translation of it...

Your playing is delightful and you got the right mood for a peaceful christmas holiday.

Man, is this ever beautiful! And you play it incredibly well; the two guitars are completely in sync with one another. I like the stereo separation between them. The sound is spectacular! So soulful!

Merry Christmas!

Serendipity, my friend... &mdash 12/14/06 - 09:53:53 PM
...as when I just came in from my new church (welcoming dinner tonight), where the choir came in while we were eating and sang a stunningly beautiful 'Carol Of The Bells'... and one of my co-workers came into my office and brought me a CD of 'The Cardigans', a Swedish group... and then I come home and find this entirely beautiful, moving, captivating tune rendered so perfectly as to pace and phrase and just the delicate chiming tone of the acoustic...

It seems as if you're in the air tonight, or something is...

What a truly beautiful Christmas gift...

Ed

A funny coincidence.. &mdash 12/15/06 - 11:06:40 AM
A funny coincidence is, that I recorded this tune on an iMac which I had borrowed from a friend, Rickard, who has a band, and the name of that band is ... Serendipity. A very rarely used word in Swedish. Actually I had never heard it before Rickard and friends named their band.

Thanks a lot for your very personal and positive comment Fran!
It is support like this that makes me going and going and going again. To work through music that works, that makes difference (as opposed to letting it stay half made in a drawer or a hard disk).

Wish you a blessed 2007!

The two guitars add a richness like a holiday tapestry - each part fits together perfectly, but they also add depth and texture to the piece.

Wonderful playing, as always. I liked the dubbing of the second guitar--it adds a richness to the tune. And a wonderful tune, too bad it isn't known here in America.

Awww... &mdash 12/18/06 - 08:33:17 PM
This was one of the first songs I ever performed live, not myself, but as a group of very young boys back in a Church, way-way back in time...but does it bring back memories, wow. This is very, very beautifully done, in all aspects, from performance mostly, but also to the recording. I miss the vocals however - this was and is a song that to me has it's message in the lyrics; that makes its completion. And, I know; where to get the choir? :)

Good work as usual. Nothing wrong with two track.
