Description:
A bit of a contrast to the last posting, here's something that's not at all plaintive - an uptempo swingy fiddle tune I made up a month or two ago. It's inspired in equal parts by the western swing of Johnny Gimble and the incidental music for chase scenes from the 70s' TV comedy 'The Goodies'.

Actually I'd really love to have a go at doing this with a guitarist who can play ragtime/swing (and an upright bass player would be cool too...) If you fit the bill (or know someone who does) please let me know.

Fun fun fun! &mdash 12/14/06 - 07:18:15 PM
:D This is such a pleasure to listen to. Lovely energy - going to take this to work and it'll make everyone start to dance!

I hope you're well proud of yourself &mdash 12/14/06 - 08:11:06 PM
It's a delightful tune and a strike against the erroneous nomenclature of small swimming mammals.

There's such a joy and frivolity in your playing and I think when Dom at MJUK described you as more versatile than a J-cloth he wasn't kidding. It's quite unlike anything else I've heard but it's still distinctively you and you still put in your signature twiddly bits.

Just bloody wonderful.

I forgot to mention the other day that I love the title. But anyway, I love the title.

Okay, how are you recording this? Does your fiddle have a pick-up? Such great energy and pizzazz (I think that's the first time I've ever typed that word!). And how refreshing to hear some of my very favorite acoustic sound here at MacJams. Much respect, fellow fiddler.

Thanks Missus &mdash 12/17/06 - 07:45:03 PM
I actually used a microphone (called a Read Fiddle Pro Mic which I found recommended on a fiddlers' website) and it's used by a number of players I admire. It clips into the C bout and picks up only localised sound (i.e. I can record acoustic fiddle whilst there's hoards of kiddies running riot in the house). Still not certain that I'm getting the best from it but it's great to use and works well live.

Are dusting down your fiddle for us?

Man you can play! I hope someone with similar chops hooks up to this. Its great as a stand alone piece, but as you mentioned I can envision some ragtimin accompainment with upright bass or guitar. really clean recording bravo!

Many thanx KTB - it would be grand to find some muso's who'd like to have a crack at it. I play guitar a bit but wouldn't be able to manage a proper swing accompaniment (perhaps I should work on it...)

It's all me &mdash 01/24/07 - 07:05:25 AM
...and done in one take. Actually I usually play it faster but I slowed it down to make it more digestible (and I worry that I usually play too fast anyways).

Many thanks for listening - this track seems to have been 'one that got away'!

Western swing, country, bluegrass, it has a bit of all of that. Excellent playing and a fine composition. And such an opportunity for other people to put some layers underneath it! Here, let me download this.....

I'd love some layers... &mdash 02/04/07 - 06:36:56 AM
...underneath this, hell I'd even rework the track to fit... Glad you listened and appreciated the track and its provenance.
