Description:
This song is music based on the historical fact.
It is a story of the revenge of the failed student in the Ako clan.
Before dawn December 15.
It is snowing.
47 Samurais invade the residence of enemy "Kira".
And, they grapple it.
47 Samurais splendidly accomplish revenge.
And, it lines up.
They march to lord's grave.
General Tokugawa ordered hara-kiri to all members.
This year's song is three composition.
The first
It is a frame of mind of the march to the Kira mansion of 47 Samurais.
It is a tension that it faces revenge.
The second
It is revenge scenery. It is duel scenery of the Kira family of the samurai and
47 Samurais.
The third
Scene where revenge succeeds, and 47 Samurais march to family temple of feudal lord.
Between the 1st and the 2nd.
It is a war drum to the signal of revenge that the leader beat.
It was a snow scene in the morning after it
revenged.
It was white daybreak of 47 Samurais.
This song was made in the music for wind instruments style.
I dedicates this song for my favorite pupil's YsaeK.
YsaeK belongs to the music for wind instruments part of the high
school.
The percussion instrument is practiced until nine o'clock every
evening.
She holds out very much.
She is an pupil of my boast.
I pray for the success in the concert in the ensemble contest on the 26th this
month.

patience rewarded &mdash 12/14/06 - 08:42:15 PM
It builds very slowly; it took me a while to realize it had started, but once I did, it captured me right away and I felt I was on a journey to a far away land. The character (mood) changes quite a bit; it seems to travel through different landscapes.
Is that a bowed cymbal at the end of the active section? Did you sample it yourself? Very nice sound.
Wonderful work, showing a side of your talent that we don't see enough! [ Reply to This ]

Thank you for the comment from St. John 'Newfoundland.
Has the snow already piled in your hometown?
The cold wave has not come yet in the winter of Japan.
I wish to express my gratitude for your warm message.

no snow yet... &mdash 12/15/06 - 09:44:40 PM
No, we've had a couple of light snowfalls, but mostly the temperatures have been above freezing, so there's no snow on the ground right now. The fact that I wrote this probably means the snow gods will bombard me with snow for the next 6 months, but at this particular moment, it's not here.
So, is that a bowed cymbal, or what? :-) --- Visit my website for lots more free MP3s and scores. [ Reply to This ]
Joys and surprises &mdash 12/14/06 - 09:20:53 PM
Minimalist start worked really well for me Tadashi - each movement has it's own joys and surprises, and overall this is a stunning composition - your performance and production are second to none. This is as challenging a piece for the listener as any you've done, but in a different way - you have replaced your usual frantic rhythms with thoughtful reflections, and developed the storyline more than I can remember in one of your songs. I was wondering where you'd been lately Tadashi, now I know - producing this wonderful work.
Good luck to YsaeK (and yourself) on the 26th.
Thanks,

...very descriptive Tadashi!
Neil (Jiguma), kindly sent me an email about this work ,& I am very glad to have had an opportunity to listen! There so much detail in such a short time!
Some of the rhythms remind me of 'noh'..(I hope that's the correct spelling!)
Many Thanks for posting this!

Long ago... &mdash 12/14/06 - 10:38:45 PM
...when I was a teenager, I came upon a song by Jefferson Airplaine called 'Chushingura', and when I went to college, I found out what the word referred to...
For those who might wish to know more about this story, this is a decent summary:

Tadashi, this is a beautiful and moving piece of work... This is one I will return to....

I did not know Jefferson Airplaine 'Chushingura'.
I saw the site of your point.
47 Samurais "Forty-seven Ronin"
I was wrong in the English translation.
The photograph on this site is a grave of 47 people.
This is a photograph in Sengakuji.
I visited Sengakuji.
It is an small temple.
It is a heartland of Tokyo.
The smoke of the incense stick never discontinues every day.
The smell of the incense stick doesn't discontinue for 300 years.
'Chushingura' is a kabuki performance.
This historical fact was imitated and it was performed.
A government (Shogunate Government of Edo) at that time did not like
this.
However, the citizens are vigorous in the criticism spirit.
The citizens sympathize with 47 people to whom hara-kiri was ordered.
It is a popular up to the present time program since then. [ Reply to This ]

VERY interesting! &mdash 12/15/06 - 04:24:48 AM
Like CC said, it does build very slowly, but like him, once it started, I felt captured by it. I'm not normally a fan of seemingly-unstructured work, but the chaotic feeling of this one really fits the story. I like it! [ Reply to This ]
Fun Song &mdash 12/15/06 - 09:40:19 PM
surprising new sounds pop up often in this instrumentation, fresh sounds like a fleshy garden, and each meat flower tries to grab your attention as you walk through...nice notes and structure changes! [ Reply to This ]

Evocative &mdash 12/29/06 - 11:40:35 PM
This is beautiful work, Tadashi. The separate movements are distinct in tone and energy. It's marvelous how you have paced this; each element comes in its own time. I especially love the denouement of the flutes at the end - I can see the red staining of the snow. Very powerful. [ Reply to This ]
