Description:
A tune for all the service industry folks. We all started there in our first jobs, and some people stayed there. Some folks are paupers, and some are kings. Vocals and rhythm guitar supplied my brother, Andrew VanDusen.

Lyrics:
King

2004

King of the neon
of the head lice
of the crab

King of the waiters
of the busboys
of the lads

King of the doormen
of the valet
of the scum

King of the head lice
of the neon
of the crabs

unexpected, excellent &mdash 12/18/06 - 04:03:32 AM
I like the way you come up with (for me at least) the unexpected in your amazingly well-produced music. Some of it I don't quite connect with, but all of it leaves a significant impression. King is no exception - the dynamic production is really outstanding - Logic Pro?? Great vox, guitars, bass and drums, My only nit is that I would really like a bit more information about what you're using to get these sounds Philip.
Excellent,
Neil

jiggy &mdash 12/19/06 - 03:19:27 AM
Thanks for your interest in my setup. I have most of my hardware listed on the main page of my profile at the bottom. I use Logic Pro and all of the soft synths and stuff it comes with. I use only direct boxes for guitar amps- a Digitech Genesis 3 which does cool amp morphing, and the amp models inside my Boss Dr-880, one of the best drum machines for guitarists ever made. I'll try to give alittle more song specific info as I go. Thanks for the interest.

I used to be King of the Dishwashers &mdash 12/18/06 - 05:39:12 AM
8 years in restaurant kitchens. I've since moved on, but I remember to tip.
Cool, slightly off-kilter vocals and nifty new wave sound.

Very funky &mdash 12/18/06 - 06:54:05 PM
I like the strangeness and dissonance you have achieved here.

I'd have to agree with Jiggy. We need more info on your tools.

clank of the crabs &mdash 12/19/06 - 12:16:26 AM
i don't know why i'm laughing, maybe because this strikes me so right. some cool guitar tricks. jeff beck used a srew driver for a clank sound, what did you use for yours?

clankin' metal &mdash 12/19/06 - 03:24:45 AM
One clankin guitar is played live to get "clank variation" and one is loops of a particular clank I fell in love with. The clank is actually just me hiting a high non-chord--some weird finger pattern that is as bizarre as I could reach, and then just beatin' the sh*t out of it. Glad you approve. The synths are the ESXP24 in Logic Pro and using the modulation wheel on my Oxygen 8 midi keyboard.

I'm your smacking bag! &mdash 12/19/06 - 12:35:21 AM
...this is relentless, throbbing and borders on annoying... therefore, I like pretty much everything about it!

I like how there is a mellow melody in the middle there... but it is bracketed by knife-like shards of noise! YYYYYEEEEESSSSSS!!!!!

nice to annoy you &mdash 12/19/06 - 03:30:46 AM
Stunner,
Yeah, I thought you'd like this one. I got more that are wayyyyy out there. Make ya beg for mercy in the annoying department, but with a little sugar to make it all go down smooth. I love dissonace and melody. Angry and apologetic all at the same time. It's all about contrast. Sometimes it works, and well...sometimes it don't.

Industrial rock all the way. Those high pitched sounds throughout the song sound like metal on metal for sure. Bass line is good in this song, its more of a lead instrument than in your other songs.

bass &mdash 12/20/06 - 02:39:27 AM
Rueffy,
If you like the bass on this song, try listening to some of "The Strangers" , they're vintage 80's, now that's in your face bass.

Love it &mdash 12/20/06 - 03:55:25 AM
No much time for me at the moment to listen and comment friend's music, but this quick note to say your music still greatly appreciated. Weird, very repetitive and dissonant for a pop song, you take risks. You're right. The best of your creative part, in my humble opinion. Will listen your other post later. Keep rockin', buddy !!!

I like the simple quirky lyrics and the character you put into the performance. Dig the bass line. The overall tonal quality is a bit on the shrill side, maybe a bit too pumped in the upper mid range of the EQ. But it rocks regardless.

Yeah, on a couple of my last posts I got a little carried away lifting up the higher registers. It's just that my earlier posts were so muffled. Might have overdone it......I appreciate the constructive feedback
