Take a rest (7 min.).

{Still two beats and three chords.}

Lyrics:

Goa is India's second smallest state. It is located on the west coast of India, in the region known as the Konkan. The Arabian Sea bounds it to the west.

Portuguese merchants first landed in Goa in the 15th century, and annexed it soon after. The Portuguese colony existed for about 450 years, until it was taken over by India in 1961.

Internationally renowned for its beaches, Goa is visited by hundreds of thousands of foreign and domestic tourists each year, and has become one of the most popular holiday destinations for European travellers, particularly in the Northern hemisphere winter.

Besides beaches, Goa is also known for its world heritage architecture including the Bom Jesus Basilica. Goa also has rich flora and fauna, owing to its location on the Western Ghats range, which are classified as a biodiversity hotspot.

The name Goa came to European languages brought by the Portuguese colonisers, but its precise origin is unclear. 'Gopakapuri' or 'Gapakapattana' were used in some ancient Sanskrit texts, and these names were also mentioned in other sacred Hindu texts such as the Harivansa and the Skanda.

The voice really adds a nice texture to this already great piece. I love the beats you've got going here. This is such a warm, colorful soundscape. A pleasure to listen.

this is very nice. I like it. a lot. I would love to see this accompan a short film about the dichotomy of india and it's creep towards the west at record pace. The beat you gives the perfect opportunity to mive frame rates through at 1 every 2-4 sec

Reminds me of the mellow sonic travels of some of Bill Laswell's productions (particularly, the recent Asana series).
BTW, Goa is also where the opening section of the Bourne Supremacy takes place.

I don't know what it is you have goin on for Goa, lobster - but I like it! Love you're laid back style and crisp, echoing beats. I could just sink into that warm Arabian Sea right now!

Keep it coming!

Warm and fuzzy - really enjoyed listening - thanks!

Smooth beats... &mdash 12/19/06 - 10:06:33 AM
And great vocal addition. I enjoyed the first incarnation of this that you sent me, but this is more polished. I like the various elements and hip beats. As everyone else has mentioned above, the vocal addition is really a nice touch and lends well to this track. Good work E. L. !

clash of emotions &mdash 12/19/06 - 03:43:17 PM
Rob, I told you before that I like the 'Goa' song very much. But unlike the previous commentors, I'm not sure if the voice really adds here. Well, don't get me wrong: no complaints about the 'vocaliser' (nice german accent by the way), but in my opinion there is a bit a clash of emotions. To my ears it just seems that the 'informational' lyrics don't fit the 'ambient' athmosphere of the song. But I'm sure this is exactly the effect you were looking for. Well, I know, this is very personal, but I would have preferred some more poetic lyrics, perhaps even in the native tongue of Goa (Indian?). But again, this is just a one man's (very personal) opinion... And I know you can take this little critique from me :-)

I tried to add some vocals to this but I had no Indian woman around unfortunately ..)
So I took a Text-to-Speach voice (Indian English by the way) he name is Anjali :)
The text is not very poetic - but informative so why not sit back, relax, listen and learn ?-)

Some great beats Rob - I like the voiceover. It adds another layer to what the music is doing and makes it more ibteresting.

Goa Trance &mdash 12/25/06 - 06:11:56 AM
Yes Smokey - there is a style of electronic music called Goa or Psychedelic trance.
I 've been to some of these parties in the nineties :)
One of the beats I used here is called Goa Head Space Beat :D

Neat &mdash 12/22/06 - 11:00:59 PM
I don't know much about Trip Hop, but I came in expecting to not like anything in the genre at all, but you have completely surprised me. I really enjoyed listening to this--strangely relaxing.

(And I get the feeling that if I left this on loop and got too relaxed, I'd wake up an expert on Goa.)

Neat stuff!

There's a mix of opinion .. &mdash 12/23/06 - 03:05:39 PM
.. on the vocal addition- it will ultimately come down to personal taste. Since I'm fairly familiar
with this one of yours - I found the vocal addition
quite pleasing and soothing (if a little verbose
like me ..lol)- as it creates this foreground/background separation for me .. so I don't focus 'so much' attention on
the quite intricate details of the background .. it just becomes more merged, ambient and relaxing... and
interesting effect.

Perhaps this was part of the idea in adding the educational vocals? (which are definitely
posh English with an Indian accent). Nice use of the
text to speech idea.

If you were to look at this again - I'd go for something half way .. more sections were the music goes
to foreground then subsides to let the vocal take the
front.

It's still fantastic piece of work. Merry kudos.

Thank you very much for listening again Alan ! &mdash 12/29/06 - 10:30:23 PM
I don't know if I will work on this again :)
But I thank you very very much for your time you took listening and commenting on this.
The voice is added in two different ways with "Ambient Vocals" (Auto Panning) and "Female Basic" - the first part is containing both and the end is made with the Ambient Vox only.

Glad you like my tune - but I stay with Trip Hop because it is developed out of two beats (on was Trop Hop) an ambient track does not have so many beats (IMHO).
