The real question &mdash 12/19/06 - 06:09:25 PM
What instrument does your son play?
Merry Christmas

He plays... &mdash 12/19/06 - 06:13:54 PM
Trumpet. However they had 11 trumpets playing so it's a bit hard to pick him out of the mix :)

Thanks &mdash 12/19/06 - 06:18:19 PM
The trumpets are excellent. (I was rooting for the tuba, that kid really stands out well)

Fabulous &mdash 12/19/06 - 07:22:18 PM
Very entertaining, uplifting! A real treat to hear. So glad I listened to this! Loved that horse sound towards the end amongst many, many other things. This is a real musical treat!

These kids are great! &mdash 12/20/06 - 03:13:59 AM
I only played in my middle school orchestra (French horn). We were hardly impressive, as I recall (tries to remember and then decides "not worth the bother"). These kids sound like they really have their act together. Hard not to enjoy this. Bravo!

Great pace &mdash 12/20/06 - 11:49:33 AM
Lifts the whole piece up a notch, very light and fun. The pace giges it great energy, like whirling snow.

now i'm ready &mdash 12/20/06 - 06:35:52 PM
for xmass! this absolutely puts me in the mood for tearing open wrapping paper. I think I have as much fun as my kids. this is a very ambitious score. the player of the percussion instrument that "snaps" in the breaks must have felt the pressure. awesome

And warm my heart it did! &mdash 12/20/06 - 07:02:37 PM
Now that was one phat beautiful loop, Sir! This must have been a blast to hearing it performed live. Great little piece. I'd say that you've upped the bar here -Very nice! Thanks Graham!

And here's hoping that you and your family enjoy a safe holiday season. D

Okay, seriously... &mdash 12/20/06 - 08:55:53 PM
I've just been reading a book about Jac Holzman starting Elektra Records bydoing live recordings and it got me thinking about doing some of the same with the laptop I'm saving for, just to learn about it...

This is a truly excellent recording on its own merits, and especially so considering it was a Dell, Audacity, and a single mic.

And THEN, as someone who gets exposed to a lot of high school bands and choruses and stuff... this is a great high school band!

Missed the horse neighing at the end...

This is a really nice treat for the holidays. Thanks for posting it. Merriest of holidays!

Ed

Ya know, though, what instrument would make it COMPLETE?....

Wonderful &mdash 12/22/06 - 04:04:41 AM
And these were really high schoolers? Soooo much better than what I'm used to hearing from the usual apathetic high school music ensemble.

In fact, they were so good I felt like I was sitting through the credits or something to some old TV holiday special. :) Congrats to your son and his peers!

jaw-dropping! &mdash 01/18/07 - 11:50:09 AM
Sheesh, when I played in Concert Band in High school, it never sounded this good! They did a wonderful job! Recording was still slightly boomy, but cleaned up really well!

Boominess begone &mdash 01/18/07 - 05:17:40 PM
I noticed this with all the recordings from this concert. Spent some time last week with a parametric eq to rid the recording of the midrange bulge. Thanks for listening!

Wow! &mdash 01/26/07 - 12:15:26 PM
That's the most fun and uplifting Christmas tune I've ever heard! The energy is great. What a blast of belated Christmas energy. Thanks a lot for going through the trouble of recording and posting this, I'll download and keep this one for next Christmas, or for when it'll finally start snowing in NY...

Nice playing overall. Gotta love those out of tune clarinets and the missed flute entrances. Dang, the whip was late! LOL Brings me back to my high school days.
