Description:
This is arranged for sopranino, soprano and bass recorders, cornetto, lute, harp, virginal, and percussion. Again the only real instruments are the recorders, played by me. I absolutely love Senfl's music. Probably my favorite renaissance composer. This disc is a work in progress, the proposed cover above and this is the title and first track.

The work you do is marvelous. It is a wonderful and ironic sign of our times that a person can use modern technology to create their own virtual ensemble, complete with multi-tracked recorders, playing music composed over four centuries ago. The recorder playing, as always is excellent.

That said, there are a few concerns for me regarding this recording.

First, and most noticeably, the background hiss is quite prominent. I'm not sure where it's coming from -- presumably the recorder tracks, since they are live recordings? -- but our ears have become so spoiled by digital recordings nowadays that this stands out (for me, anyway).

The drum you use sounds suspiciously like a modern timpano, which for me feels somewhat incongrous in a renaissance ensemble like this... I know small kettledrums existed back then, but my understanding is that the sound would have been lighter and far less resonant than that of the modern instrument. You might consider trying some sort of frame drum or even a tambourine instead.

And finally, things feel slightly out of sync, rhythmically, towards the beginning... I could be wrong about this, but it feels like the recorders are slightly anticipating the beat on a regular basis... not sure if that's intentional or not.

Mostly, though, my comment is that this is wonderful work.
