Description:
This is my first MJ collab with my brother Will Jones - San Luis Obispo, Ca. He sent me the lyrics last week and I put together a slick pop/folk arrangement that I ditched at the last minute and knocked out out this quick improvised demo version. I hope the immediacy gets the song across in a way that connects. The rhythm guitar was a first take improv, and the vocals and bass were laid down as quick as possible with very little punching-in. No peripherals or pencils were used in this production.
Many thanks to Will for the inspiring lyrics. And to all my friends at MacJams - thanks for making this a great year.
Merry Christmas - Bud

Lyrics:
When I think of how it is
Instead of how it ought to be
Of all the crying mothers
children that they’ll never see
I think of you and your sweet love
The beauty and the mystery
I think of you and your sweet love
The sadness that you take from me

Love is like a desert rain
It blossoms where it falls
Love is like a gentle breeze
It comforts when it calls

When I think of how it is
Instead of how it ought to be
Of all the crying children
mothers that they’ll never see
I think of you and your true love
The beauty and the mystery
I think of you and your true love
The happiness you give to me

Love is like a desert rain
It blossoms where it falls
Love is like a gentle breeze
It comforts when it calls

When I think of how it is
Instead of how it ought to be
Of all the crying nations
The futures they may never see
I think of you and your great love
The peace and the serenity
I think of you and your great love
Of love’s final victory.

Love is like a desert rain
It blossoms where it falls
Love is like a gentle breeze
it comforts when it calls

Now there's a real compliment &mdash 12/24/06 - 09:00:55 AM
Workingman's Dead was the record of the moment when I was visiting my brother in Selinsgrove Pa - his college town - one summer. Long a favorite - I'm flattered. Peace and love to The JOAN Experience.

heavy... &mdash 12/24/06 - 01:22:49 PM
in a folky way. nice. this has that neil young crazy horse approach. and works very well. nice melody and mix. vocals come through good. i do notice however...that is sounds like your voice is clipping close to the end. built in mike? but for the way you approached thats really nothing.
One of your best....so far.

Thanks Vic &mdash 12/24/06 - 02:07:52 PM
You're right-on with your observations as usual. I did use the G5 built-in mic. The whole thing was laid down in about an hour and I didn't stop to set up any gear. Also no tweaking or EQing which was a challenge, but I wanted whatever I got as a testament of the moment. My inspiration was indeed Crazy Horse - which I think meets my skills better than Stelly Dan. Hence the simple drum and bass line.

Get outta town! Pulled that off for sure, nice jam sound. The vox is good, the rock is countryfried. Love it.

You know, i have trouble keeping up with your posts 'cause you write so much stuff! This is another cracking tune - lovely (almost Becksian) drawling , lazy vocal, perfectly complimented by the tempo and growling guitars. The harmonies are beautiful - I'd love a whole album of this stuff man.

All power to you - keep on postin', Bud.

Great stuff Bud. I think this is my favorite post of yours thus far. I love the gritty lo-fi sound here. Your brother has wriiten some fine lyrics, and your vox fits them like the proverbial glove.

Be well friend!

Hey Bud,
Mellow. Reminds me of Ultimate Frizbee with the speakers pointed out the window of the dorm onto the quad. If I still smoked it, I'd be firing up......;-)

I'm not afraid of cliches - they work - that's how they got to be cliches. Hopefully if you're honest enough - everything old is new again. Thanks for checkin in. And again, thanks to brother Will for the collab.
