Description:
About a year ago I uploaded a song called "17/8 Jam Draft." It was an experiment in trying to create a jazzy/fusion type of piece in a really bizzare time signature. I managed to get something happening... recorded each part of the drum kit with a single mic and the same with the piano... but left it open for a solo instrument. A few people had a go at it, but no one came through with a final product.
Anyway... many months later, with better recording equipment... a new skin on my snare drum... better attempts at solos... and better techniques at making it sound like I was actually playing this for real (well the piano is live... but kinda shows it... it takes enough brain power to count properly let alone play a decent solo)... and I've come out with a much more final product.
Hope you enjoy this, and listen out for the drum solos starting at 1:18 and 3:00

Astounding stuff Bryan - it really does sound live, and your playing on everything is perfect really. Clearly you have far too much time on your hands tobe able to figure this out : ) I couldn't even keep up the count just listening for heaven's sake.
Have you seen the "MJ Drum Challennge" forum thread? Sounds right up your alley - from where I sit, you look like the Aussie rep : )
Have a great christmas and new year,

Wow - listening pleasure from the first note to the last.
I like the sound of your instruments - even the Cowbell :)
Cool effect with those crowd voices in the background !
Mcboy
takes me back to another time.....like the bebop climate in those small clubs.......even tho the playing is more modern than bebop.......enjoyed it!!!

Idea, composition, and performance.
All high level.
Wonderful one.

Nice live sound. Reminds me of the crowds on the tune "Compared to What" on the Eddie Harris/Les McCann album "Live at Montreux". It's hard to make those odd time signatures not sound mechanical, but here you did a good job. Must have been fun putting this one together.

Wonderful dynamics and changes - and quite a trick to make it all sound live the way you do. You don't sound limited in any way here - you really make playing in this time signature sound quite easy!
BloodSoul
really? it sure sounds live, i really dig all the instruments, very good job on this song.
I enjoyed the listen. Thanks.
