very cool &mdash 12/27/06 - 08:00:54 PM
I like the plucking what do you call that picato? very nice arrangement but i think it could be longer, try throwing a few more variations on the main theme but over all very good

Not bad &mdash 12/27/06 - 08:11:53 PM
Playful and rhythmic.
The solo fiddle/violin kinda bothered me, though - not what it was playing; the melody was just fine, but the sound itself.
But that's not your fault at all, just the fakey quality of the jampack strings.

Anyway - a nice little piece.

nice melody &mdash 12/28/06 - 11:53:31 AM
One of the main challenges of putting together a decent piece of music is having an identifiable melody.

You achieve this goal in this piece. There *IS* a melody, with an interesting rhythm (with spaces of silence -- very good).

The melody does suggest more chord changes, perhaps, than you included here. The pizzicato accompaniment doesn't always change with the melody above it, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but I think that the overall effect of the music/melody would be more coherent if you DID change the accompaniment to match the melody's chord changes.

I encourage you to explore more of the orchestral instruments in JamPack4 for additional "tone colors", and look forward to hearing more of your pieces.

P.S. By the way....a waltz is in 3/4 time, 3 beats to the measure. (Like the happy b-day song.) This piece is in 4/4 (or maybe 2/4) time. You may want to retitle this piece.

Cool tune Rep 6 &mdash 12/29/06 - 04:19:53 AM
nice &mdash 12/29/06 - 04:18:38 PM
thanks for sharing this song. i like this melody.

there was a comment about the JamPack4 violins that i would like to add my opinion to: i find that the strings don't stand up too well as the main lead instrument so i usually use them only as backup.

but JamPack4 has several other instruments that are excellent for the main melody - maybe you could experiment with some of the other ones?

Nice indeed &mdash 12/29/06 - 10:06:00 PM
This one definitely deserves to be revisited, and you've got many different ways to go about it. As a stark bit of instrumentation, this could be a small piece of a larger composition as-is (with the aforementioned string issue resolved). I like the rhythm you've developed here and it would enhance the flow nicely to change that rhythm up a bit, to perhaps put some runs into the mix that lead into familiar refrains. There are some wicked soundfonts available at Soundfonts.it - another one is Hammersound.net - they have quite a few nice string patches that have beautiful looped sustain that would be perfect for this sort of thing. Keep at it - you've got a great ear!

Shall we dance, miss Monroe? &mdash 02/16/07 - 11:47:54 AM
If I want to nitpick I could say that this is is not really any dance in particular: the pizzicato accompaniment could work with tango, but the melody doesn't really fit that.

However, you do you a great job of conveying an elegant atmosphere. The melody is very nice.

I guess you're limited here by the jampack strings: every once in a while the melody notes are too detached. Can you get that more flowing by stretching the notes a bit by hand? Especially when you play 8ths it's a bit unnatural.

But the piece as such is lovely.
